  • Is there any difference between this and the HD9650/93 other than display controls?

    • +1

That and th 93 has a keep warm mode

  • same price @ The Good Guys

    • -1
    • and perhaps the BF10 code might work too, but the delivery is delayed and not all stores have stock.

      • Trying BF10. Doesnt seem to work

  • Just for better understanding, is it equivalent to 5 or 8 Liters?

    • +1

      On Amazon description it says

      XXL family size meals

You can cook a whole chicken or even up to 1.4 kg of fries to satisfy hungry family or friends. Serve up to six portions with the 7.3L capacity basket

      So seems like its 7.3L

      • Thank you very much

  • What is the 'fat removal' tech in this?

    • +6

      A drip tray?

      • D'oh. I was here thinking it's something that removes excess fat off the meat haha

        • +25

          That'd be heat I believe.

    • Lol thought the same

  • Costco 299

  • +3

Careful as the numbers around the knob come off easily on this model

    • +7

If you paint clear nail polish over the numbers they will not come off.

      • +1

I don’t have any clear nail polish will black work?

  • -1

I went and grabbed the next version up which is the black one just the other day. I was going to see about waiting for a special and then I walked into costco and they were selling the black model for 370 so I pounced on it. I was aware amazon has done specials lower before but figured that was pre covid and the demand for these kinds of appliances is huge.

Absolutely love it. So easy to cook everything and it cooks it really well. I think the digital display and other functions are worth the extra 70 but at the end of the day it will cook the same.

" I think the digital display and other functions are worth the extra 70 but at the end of the day it will cook the same."

I have been looking at these for some time, but have been hesitant. Main concern is the incorporated digital electronics may create a fryer that will die prematurely due to heat and fat not liking the electronics… See have seen feedback but no hard evidence of failure. Does anyone know?

  • +8

Good deal, but I'm holding out for the black version with the digital display. It went for $269 on Amazon last Boxing day. What are the chances it hits that price again…?

    • Same here waiting as well

    • When new model release maybe?

    • +2

this will go yelow in no time

    • unlikely. This has been a special year.

    • was that price for the XXL?
      sounds good!

  • +2

Same price pretty much everywhere for the last week

  • Really? Just bought the XL @$259 a few days ago because there were no XXL specials running .

    • Yeah. Good Guys, JB Hifi, a few others. I only know because we have been contemplating getting this or the Digital. The Digital is more expensive but comes with $50 cashback. Still an extra $150 after cashback though.

      • +1

Over the weekend Costco had the XXL (9651/91) for $380 (digital and black) but no cashback.

        • Costco version has the additional tray. Called up Philips to understand.

    • -1

The XL from Big W is part of the "essential" range. It's unclear what is different in the "premium" range. I think the premium models have a removable drip tray at the bottom, but the tray has large holes, not very effective to catch oil/fat. Or perhaps the tray is to enhance thermo performance, not meant as drip tray.

  • +2

Tried to support local. Good guys no local stock for pick up and charges 10$ for delivery. BF10 doesnt work. Called up call center, they dont know. Same story with JB Hifi, 6.95$ delivery. Ended up with Amazon again…

  • Do people know if air fryers are more energy efficient than standard electric ovens?

    • It can cook frozen fries within 10 minutes from starting the power?

It also takes 4 minutes to go a really good job for pizza.

      Can oven do that ?

    • definitely. There's no wasted space that has to be heated up, less air loss when opening door, and less (zero?) pre-heating time.

    • +1

I'd say on average for suitable food they are better than an electric oven efficiency wise, in some cases probably quite a bit more efficient.
In any worst case scenario they would be at a minimum equal to an oven.

    • cool, thanks peeps

  • +2

    I've never understood these things.
A heating element, a fan, a timer, a bot of stamped metal and some high temp plastics.
Why are these Anything more than $199?

    • you're paying for the Phillips brand

    • +1

$79 at Kmart, identical function. Works perfectly. Phillips is just chucking cash away.

      • +1

Chalk and cheese between the philips and Kmart model however

    • If they were manufactured in Straya, these metal and plastics would cost $1990.

    • bot = bit

    • -1

      Longevity.

A lot of the cheaper alternatives can do a pretty good job, but will they last 4-5 years down the line? Probably not, these probably can.

      • The non-stick coatings will not last 4-5 years.

  • +1

I had the first version when phillip launched the air fryer. it has never given issue and compared to conventional oven, they utilise way less electricity

For those that are interested KMart Air Fryers seem to be Numero Uno

    • -1

Probably because people buying no-name gear at Kmart don't lash out on quality appliances so they are comparing to their $12 toaster and $8 kettle.

      • I bought the kmart special and was pleasantly surprised. For the money it is very good value. Don't confuse price with value.

  • I buy now.
    Thanks op!
