  • Telstra 4G & 3G.
  • Flexibility to change plans once every monthly payment cycle.
  • Data slows to 64 kbps if you use all your monthly allowance.

Before you activate make sure you get a referral code from a friend already with Belong or the OzBargain Belong pool for an additional $20 credit.

3 Months 12GB - Activate on the $25 10GB per month plan. Then switch to the $10 1GB per month plan for the 2nd & remaining months. You should be able to switch straight away once your account is set up & activated. The first 3 months cost is covered ($25 starter pack credit plus $20 referral credit) and data rolls over every month or can be gifted.

For Existing Customers (2 months 14GB) - Activate the same as above but in a family members name & email. Use your referral code to give yourself $20 credit (2 more months on the $10 plan). Make sure you actually use the new sim in a spare phone so you can't be accused of breaching the "Customer Terms". Gift the data to yourself gradually or towards the end of the 3 months.

More info at the Belong Wiki.
Customer Terms.

I thought you offered a $10 smaller 1G plan?
We did, but as of 23 July Belongs $10 plan will no longer be available for new sign-ups. Once you've signed up, you'll be able to change over to the $10 plan at the start of your next billing month.

You can cancel your service by notifying us. We’ll cancel your service within 24 hours. It may take up to 24 hours to process your request, so you’ll need to let us know at least 24 hours before the start of the next monthly bill cycle. If you want to keep your number then port out before cancelling your service.

The days of double data are over but this is still a good option for sim slutting if you don't need much data as it equates to $3.33 per month for 3 months.

    • can you explain what you mean? what happens if you activate outside billing period instead of getting double data?

      • +1

There are no set billing dates anymore and no double data. I activated one of these on 03/12/20 and my billing date will be on the 3rd of every month now.

        • I just ported my mrs over to belong at the end of last month. took more than a few days before it ported actually, she couldn't make calls and had no data for a few days. but her billing date is the 4th.

EDIT - Awe, crap. Just checked and saw that there's no $10 plan option anymore.

          • @nerd1: Did you read the description. The $10 plan is still available, just not for the first billing date.

            • @Arthur Dunger: Yes I have. This is the 3rd number I have moved over. The billing date is the 4th so I haven't checked until now. When I just logged in, I can only select the $25 or $40 plan now. The $10 plan is no longer there.

Can someone else that is not currently on the $10 plan check to see if it is available as an option to switch to?

              • @nerd1: Can confirm when going into manage my mobile page, it still shows $10, $25 and $40 option. But then i was on the $10 plan already not sure if it was just for people who are already on that plan.

              • @nerd1: did it after the changes ocured. first month $40, following months changed to $10

                • @follow: how strange. thanks. I will follow up with support.

    • Thanks for the heads up. Rip double data. You served us well. Thank god $20 referral for both parties is still here to stay

  • $6 postage?!

  • $10 for 10GB data and unlimited calls for 12 months?

    • +4

No, you have 12 months from the purchase date to activate the starter pack.

      • ok thanks

  • If you have multiple numbers in your name. Can you refer yourself?

I have setip the whole family's phone numbers in my name…..

    • yes, but if you go overboard they can ban you, haven't heard of it actually happening thou. the OP has tips on how to look 'legit'
"For Existing Customers (2 months 14GB) - Activate the same as above but in a family members name & email. Use your referral code to give yourself $20 credit (2 more months on the $10 plan). • Hi Arthur Dunger,

Now that Belong's Android app has been updated, how can we check our referral credit?

In the old app, if memory serves, it was under 'Payment' or something, and it was clear how much $ we had from referral.

    TIA!

    • Tap on "Manage Mobile" and it will show "Your Credit".

      • Thanks, Arthur Dunger,

If I don't see "Your Credit" under "Manage Mobile", does that mean I don't have any referral credit?

I thought I had successfully referred a couple of friends.

        Thanks.

        • I think so but can't confirm as my account has some referral credit.

        • You should see it in your monthly invoice, eg in your march invoice if you referred them in march. Raise a support request and state your referral code and the number of your friend you referred. I had to this 4 days ago and got my credit

  • Can I use this to reload existing belong number?

    • No. You need to port out to a service other than belong and port in again

      • +1

        Thanks

  • Darn, just bought Kogan 2 minutes Ago and saw this, so bought this one too for its Telstra networks for Christmas long drive vs Vodafone networks.

  • This or Amaysim for kid's phones? 1 will be in highschool and the other in primary next year so want a phone to call to be picked up, or if there is a problem out of school hours. Have crappy phones already and unlocked.

  • How many months does it last?

    • As the description says you can get 3 months out of this starter pack then you will be charged per month unless you cancel.

      • It can potentially (YMMV) stretch out to 4 months, if you reuse a previous email used to sign up for a Belong account, and you can remember the original sign-up (rollover) date. Sign up one day after that cycle-date in the month.

This worked for me back in August, I'll be trying it again early in the new year.

      • Sorry not understanding how you get 3 months. The starter pack states 28 days expiry and then op has advised switching to $10 a month plan. So 3 months would be 25+10+10?

        • +1

OP is referring to the referral process where both parties receive $20 credit. Hence 3 months (as you have worked it out above).

  • Well this is a good deal - but I think Coles and Woolworths both have the same deal at this moment.

    • Usually OW only drop the price when Coles or Woolworths have the special, however I couldn't find it in this weeks catalogues.

      • +2

I saw it on Thursday at my local WW when I was looking for discounted Ikea gift cards and half-price chicken kievs (and found neither!)

    • +1

Can confirm that Woolworths has the same deal going on at the moment - bought one last night.

    • Just checked today. Price is back to normal at Woolworths.

  • Can I use this to port out from Telstra for a month and then go back as a new customer, or should I go Kogan to be safe?

    • no if you are signing up with JB or GG. Probably just no. Safer to go Kogan.

  • +1

OP, Belong also removed the $10 per month plan for new sign ups, which can totally suck if you are WFH, and don't need a lot of data.

In fact, Belong is no longer providing the value they used to for all your hard earned $$. Add to this the fact they have no phone support for both mobile and NBN, which is completely outrageous especially if you are going to start to cut back on all your freebies.

I am planning to jump ship to Amaysim when a good pre-paid plan comes by.

    • Yes I know, I mentioned it in the description. I also mentioned that you can move to the $10 plan after the first payment date. I don't see at as a big deal because you can use the first payment date to build up some data.

      • I don't see at as a big deal because you can use the first payment date to build up some data.

I bought 2x $40 SIM cards earlier this year. I have used the first one to accumulate data, when they still had the double data feature.

The second one is meant for a family member who is stuck WFH for the foreseeable future. If Belong didn't remove the $10 plan for new users, the $40 starter pack would last them 6 months with a referral.

You can cancel your service by notifying us. We’ll cancel your service within 24 hours.

If the service is cancelled, then the $40 starter pack credits are void, right?

        • Makes sense that you'd lose any credit left over after you've cancelled

        • If Belong didn't remove the $10 plan for new users, the $40 starter pack would last them 6 months with a referral.

You can buy this deal for $10 and add 2 more months to an existing account. See the description for details.

          • @Arthur Dunger:

You can buy this deal for $10 and add 2 more months to an existing account.

As I have said already, I have a spare $40 starter pack to be used by a family member.

I am aware that I will receive 2 more free months on a $10 / month plan as part of the referral process. There is no way I can add the credits from either this deal or the $40 starter pack to my account.

I am just pissed Belong has decided to remove the $10 / month plan for new customers during a pandemic when most customers are working from home and don't necessarily need the extra data from the two expensive plans.

  • +2

The $40 Belong sims are currently $15 at JB Hifi.

    • Do you have a link handy? I could not find it online. Is this an in-store only promotion?

  • You are far better off activating on the $40 plan than the $25 plan, as you get 4* the data in the first month. Then you switch back to the $10 plan. When you get close to using up your 40GB, switch back up to the $40 plan, accumulate some more, then switch back to $10. Even if you alternate months (1 month on the $10 plan, one on the $40) you are better of data wise than if you switch to the $25 plan. The $25 plan is essentially a pointless product, unless I'm somehow misreading things. Of course, all of this might change if they do away with the $10 plan completely, but for the time being it appears swapping plans on a monthly basis gives you the best value.

    • You can access unlimited data at shaped speed of 64kbps earlier on the cheaper plan. It is OK for basic use.

      • +1

Agreed. Especially, if you are stuck working from home and/or don't rely on cellular data as much.

Pre-COVID era, I found that they even forget to shape you, even when you have run out data for days.

  • How long do you have to not be on Belong before you can use the starters kit to port in again?
Also, are there any risks to referring the same person?
Situation: I am on Belong, I referred the Mrs. She used for 4 months, and then ported out to Kogan. After 89 days, can she port back in to Belong using my referral using one of these starters kits?

    • i do the same but on port out and in the same day. couple times now, no issues. just use new email

  • tldr; be aware of their lack of proper support!

I used to complain about other providers who were using call centres in India and Philippines, but now Belong has shutdown their call centres altogether and you have to use their ticketing system for everything.
I had an issue and I asked them at least 5 times to show me a way to talk to someone and they basically said that it was impossible. Their support was so terrible that I decided to cancel my service with them.

    • In my experience theyve never had a call support. Their number always hung up…

      • I used them for a while and last time that I called them (I think it was about two years ago) they had a proper call centre! Not sure when this happened but right now there's no number to call.
I asked them to terminate my service and they charged me extra and when I asked them to refund it, they said, sorry, we've already charged you and there's no going back! I was lucky that I was paying through paypal and I finally got my money back by complaining to paypal.

        • Yup similar experience. I switched to 40 plan but for some reason it still had the $5 extra for international calling which was already included. In the end paypal refunded the difference.

  • How easy or difficult is it to port out of Belong?

    • Shouldn't be hard but with my recent terrible experience with their support, I won't risk porting in my main number to Belong.

    • I had no problem porting out a few weeks ago. Note that Belong is postpaid, so you would need the account number (on the invoice) when porting out.

      • As long as you complete the port before the start of your next billing cycle with Belong, you don't end up losing money.
Otherwise, you might have to contact them and ask them not to charge for a billing month when they are not providing any service (i.e. number ported out late).

Thanks Arthur Dunger & mitty got the forty and downgraded to the $10 for next mth. Also go a $20 referral from my partner.

Nearly got the 40GB for $10 at OW. someone had put all the 40GB cards on the 10GB rack.
Could have argued the point but the poor staff member was already flustered and the queue behind me was getting longer. Still a bargain at $20.

    • downgraded to the $10 for next mth. Also go a $20 referral from my partner

This will last you 4 months from the date of your SIM activation before they charge your CC (assuming you started off with the $25 pm plan).

    • Cheers, just posted it as a deal.

  • Is anyone else having trouble with activation? When I click on "get started" it just refreshes the page and I can't progress…

  • Hi Arthur,

Ask you a question. If I use a referral code to sign up
for $40 plan using $25 starter pack is the $20 referral bonus going to be applied immediately against the payment due today or I have to pay $15 today, which case $20 will be used for next payment which is in a month time? Thanks in advance.

Or anyone else know this? Help needed. Appreciate.

Apparently Belong changed a few things lately and I want to know before I connect. Any help is appreciated.

    • $20 referral bonus going to be applied immediately

Referral credits are always applied before they hit up your CC / PayPal account.

      • Thanks. Did you recently activate a new sim? I know in the past referral credits are always applied before they charge our CC or whatever payment method we chose. But I tried to activate a new sim this afternoon. Under the referral bonus $20 it stated that $20 would be used against next payment. Then it showed that total to pay today is $40. So I am a bit confused and wondering if Belong has changed its rule regarding this refer a friend bonus.

I am hoping someone might be able to confirm from very recent exprience.

        • Then it showed that total to pay today is $40.

Completely normal as you had selected the $40 plan.
Your CC will be charged $35 at the start of the next billing cycle.

  • Have tried 4 referral codes, all invalid. Some secret I am not aware of?

    • No secret. I just referred a family member yesterday.

      • certainly something is buggered ive tried about 15 codes, including multiple that people have PMed me, all invaild

        • Really, that's funny. Because I activate 1 sim using a friend's code and it was shown straight away.

    • your identity is invalid, please reincarnate.

  • nvm, lol

  • If anybody wants an $80 starter sim, please PM me.

  • Hi, sorry for my ignorance but..does anyone know where to enter the Belong referral code before activation?
"Before you activate make sure you get a referral code from a friend already with Belong"
    Thanks heaps!

  • +3

hi there, im looking for a refferal code, tried around 20 from the referral pool, but they dont seem to work, anyone has a code i could use? PM me pls

    • +1

me too. i'm trying to activate now and ive tried heaps from the pool - none work.

please pm me if you have a code. will wait a little while lol

      • I can provide my code ,how to PM you?

        • thanks for the offer.

turns out you can't apply the code to an existing account. had to make a new account and the ozb pool worked.

  • Is there something I need to do to get the starter pack from $25 down to $10, or is this deal no longer valid?

  • Has anyone by any chance noticed this still instore at ANY of the retailers -> OW, Aus Post, Woolies/Coles? Or can at least confirm that it's done for? Would like to know before I head out to scout. Cheers.

  • +1

FYI, deal expired at all retailers. Also tried to price match the JB HiFi deal from here but OW wouldn't price match citing deal wasn't listed on their website. A drive to JB HiFi rectified that. Big thanks to OP for the write up and heads up on referral links.

    Happy New Year all.
