No Excess Data Charges with Postpaid Plans (Now Capped at 1.5Mbps) @ Optus

1940

Finally Optus stops ripping people with excessive data charges, following Telstra and Vodafone. Excessive data now capped at 1.5Mbps speed (slow lol, but better than being charged with exorbitant fee)

If you’re a new Optus customer signing up or recontracting from today you’ll get the new endless data by default. If you’re an existing customer you will need to toggle it on via the My Optus app.

Just found a good deal to go with it too if you are eligible with rural postcode (iPhone Xr 64GB + 60GB + Unlimited calls/txt in Au & 35 countries for just $59.99/month on 24-month plan, total cost is $1,439.76)

  • At 1.5Mbps you can use

    11.25MB in 1 minute
    675MB in 1 hour

  • I joined vodafone about 20 days ago. Good to know optus changed to uncapped plans.

But vodafone is giving 10 Mbps on $55 plan. I am running full HD videos and even xcloud without any difference compared to Max speed. But optus have better quality compared to vodafone internet, at least in my area.

  • On 80gb, can’t seem to find the option on the Optus app to enable it

    • same, cant seem to find it on Andriod.

OK, so for those who might struggle to find exactly how to toggle this on like I was - on the Optus app (this is for iOS), go to Service —> Extra —> Manage Data —> select Endless Data so that it shows a check mark

No dice for me - I've only got Usage Breakdown, Shared Data Usage, Get More, Donate as options

      • That sucks - is your app the latest update? Mine had an update 2 days ago

        • 8th Dec yeah

Doesn't matter too much for me though, I might only use 5gb of the 120gb shared data anyway

      • On Android 'My Optus' app:
Click on the data available 'circle' display
Click on the 'Manage data' if pop-up at the top
Otherwise click on the '…' (Extra) circle near the bottom right handside
        Click on 'Manage data'
You will find the 'Endless Data' option in there if applicable to your service

    • Thanks heaps ectogammat, that saved me a lot of stuffing around. Rather hidden.

      • Glad it helped!

    • Thanks , just noticed mine needs an update, mine is 80gb, only used 20gb, and donated 20gb

For those of you whose data doesn’t get rolled over you can try donating asan option, it goes to kids through charity . The issue I find is it’s 10gb only per 24. Hrs so I couldn’t donate the remaining 40gb last night .

Excess Data charges + 20c SMS + oversea roaming = Telcos has been ripping Australians for decades.
It’s about time most of this has stopped.

    • I haven't seen a 20c SMS since I went to the 1c Text plans in high school.

      Fifteen years ago.

That was Fifteen years ago !!?

        • wheezes

Back in my day we didn't have emojis! We had colons and brackets! And a T9 keyboard! And we liked it!

  • make sure you upgrade the Optus app to get the option.

  • Do they have a data only plan for $15 like telstra?

  • why do i have to "toggle it on" if i'm an existing customer? why can't they just give me the deal, or they expect anyone who doesn't read their promotionals to get ripped off because "They deserve it"?

    • Customer loyalty at its finest

  • welcome to the 21st century optus customers

  • About time they did this!
    Just enabled, thanks!

  • thanks, updated the app and saw it.
    Toggled on cheers

Who still has one of these $0 plans? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/251962

  • I've got 5 data shared sims. is there a way to combine all to make the 1.5Mbps faster?

    • FULL SPEED DATA accumulates so 5gb+5gb…x5 =25gb of full speed, then 1.5Mbs. Toss in a 500gb plan you have 525gb before it slows to a crawl.

I find 1.5Mbs to be TOO SLOW. Vodafone does 2Mbs thats 25% faster if throttled but the $80 plan has UNLIMITED DATA (ignore the 30gb tethering, thats only it seems monitored when overseas) for $65 a month! 1 sim to rule them all, and soon as Sep/Oct Vodafone should be roaming on telstra!
