How does this compare with Samsung A32 4G?
Looking at specs it seems only slightly better, but it is 2yrs newer?

Would this be a significant upgrade?

    https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=10753&idPhone…

    • +1

$299 Samsung A35 from amaysim is a better phone and a significant upgrade from the A32
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/859693

      • +1

        You mean $330

        • -3

No, I mean $299 and an additional $30 one month sim plan required only for new customers.

    • Read the specs again there many things better like the display, charge, camera and more like ip4 resistant etc

  • -1

Paid $279.99 from same seller yesterday, is there any chance they'll refund me the difference?

    • +1

why didn't you buy from Sydney Mobile yesterday?

  • +12

If apple selling aphone with this specs it will be $1,681.90

    • +1

You're wrong, it would be oos.

    • and the rest. The price they charge for an extra 64gb of rom drive.

  • I have this phone, no e-sim proved to be a real downside when travelling, outside of that, very happy with it

    • Depends where you travelled to as some countries still dont have much esim yet.

    • +2

Someone in a previous G84 post recommended 5ber which I just used on a trip to Europe and worked fine. It basically adds a sim which lets you use esims.

  • +1

The only thing putting me off buying the g84 is the numerous complaints of camera lens coating degrading, causing blurry photos etc

    • +3

Reports I have read indicate this is an issue primarily related to phones in India.

You may wish to do further research.

      • Comments in that thread had someone from Germany and Argentina too…..

  • Even looks like an Iphone from the distance.
    Great value for the money!

    • +4

It's the only downside. Great deal otherwise

  • Motorola phones are still around?

    • +1

It's made by Lenovo. So not really the original Motorola. It's just the name.

      • Its a USA sub, Motorola Mobility; they licence the Motorola logo.

Its all funny money, because lenovo owns that sub, so china still gets the money after the US takes their tax; but regarding oversight and software and such its still 100% USA operated, registered and staffed.

    • +1

They've been making a come back the last 5 years or so. They even make a razr flip phone!

  • +1

Mobileciti just dropped the price for G54 to $248 - 10% off. Cannot be bothered making another post

    • +2

Let me know when it hits $149

      • Waited for too long. Missed all the sales and now bought one at premium. Amaysim is not sending any codes to me =(

  • This or the new iPhone…

    • +7

      8 of these.

  • +2

OP's userpic looks like a younger, happier version of jv

before he bought a Tesla, Collingwood membership, and 600 garlic breads from Dominos (how many people around here remember that day?)

  • +2

Great phone just picked up off gumtree for $160 pretty much brand new in the box with receipt.

Old Guy said it was too technical for him 😔 couldn't return it as it was opened box

    • -8

Should you feel a bit guilty of buying it from this poor old fella at such a cheap price?

      Brand new for $160.

Not trying to guilt trap you, but just questioning the ethics of this… Bargain, vs ethnics?

      • +4

That was the price he asked for it he wanted quick sale and he said it was on for $200 first then by the time I found it that was what he asked he said he couldn't return it so it was worth zero to him so that's what he agreed on.

      • +3

The guy was happy to sell it for that price. He knew how much he bought it for.

        • Yeah I know that.

I get a very good bargain every now and again and feel guilty, feel like I ripped people off, even though the pricing was their decision etc.

At these times I just give them a bit extra, make myself feel better.

          • +1

@smartProverble: @ram4ram I understand but I feel if they are happy to take that price then just be happy that for once in a while we get a bargain in life.

          • -1

            @smartProverble: @ram4ram

If you have money to give away maybe next time donate to a charity

      • 66% of new price for a secondhand phone is pretty reasonable.

      • No ethics issues in paying an asking price.

Thats not even half price, so its not like it was 'given away' either, closer to 2/3rds, electronics usually drop pretty harshly 2nd hand.

        • @MasterScythe the rule is as soon as the item leaves the store its second hand and sold as such nobody paying retail if they can get it from the store for that price

          • @HopeM: Of course; 2nd hand is always cheaper than retail.

  • -1

Not bad, lived with it for the last few weeks. 5g is shit need to select 4g for consistency on the Telstra network.

    • Telstra retail or wholesale network?

    • You're doing something wrong.

You select (5g/4g) so the phone will automatically swap where the service is and if you're in the correct 5g location.

if there's no 5G then it will connect to 4G same with any phone

      • He is probably experiencing sites with inadequate spectrum allocated to the 5G band(s). It happens for a period as reallocation occurs. Can last for months, but should not be noticeable for most unless doing speedtests/high bandwidth tasks.

  • Is there any chance it would go down to 244$?

    • Yes, 69.420%

    • JB will clear it at like $199 in a year or so, like most motos reaching EoL, if you can wait.

  • Great handset.

    Dual physical sims
    Great storage

I use mine for a gaming setup with the backbone running psx and PPSSPP emulation without a hitch.

  • Been having issues with FB Messenger and WhatsApp messages coming through. Gotta actually open the apps for the phone to receive them. Known issue. Tried the recommended changes on battery optimisation, no joy. Any OzBargainers got a workaround?

    • Have you downloaded all current updates?

    • No issues with WhatsApp, but some with FB, and having other issues with mail (imap) notification. Think all are related, so also keen to hear if anyone has solutions.

      Known issue

      Reference?

      Thanks

      • +2

Numerous threads on reddit. Here's one example: Link

    • +2

Both Meta tools; id start checking logs for a common flag (likely Doze).

      Try passing:
      dumpsys deviceidle disable
Over ABD. That command lasts until next reboot, and disables doze entirely.

If it helps, reach out to Meta support and open a bug report; because their messenger apps shouldnt enter deeper levels of doze (this is frequently an issue with Metas apps).

      • Thanks @MasterScythe - just got to test this. Seems to have fixed my 'dozing' imap email client.

For those who really want to understand the guts of doze, try this

Shame that this has to be done after every reboot :-(

        • +1

Mozilla's K-9 Mail handles doze correctly for me. Its a client worth trying.

          • @MasterScythe: Thanks. K9 has improved since I used it years ago, but Maildroid has served me well. Will persist and see if I need to change. Appreciate the help.

  • I picked one of these up a few months ago for $260. Really nice phone.
You have to side load the Gcam APK file to get anything decent out of the camera though.

    • +1

how much of a difference does Gcam make?

      • its better if you get the right configuration but again only in certain situations. i.e. its more work than its worth when it comes to compariing the difference.

      • +1

It was tricky to get the right one, but the default photos can be diabolical.
        Sample photos here

      • +1

Apparently quite a bit. This thread for recommendations on which Gcam to use.

  • anyone know how would this compare to my S10e ?

    • +1

      Personally have an S10.

Not sure about S10e but the S10 is faultless still personally. Battery life isn't as good as a 5000mah battery but is good to last a day. Camera is obviously better than this Motorola, day and night. 6gb ram and 128gb storage is still fine, no lags or intrusive app closing. Still snappy etc. OneUI interface still is better than simple jack Pixel interface, and I love the inbuilt features like Dex and the Samsung Health app that tracks your sleeping and walking / pedometer automatically, and the bixby button as a flash button etc.

      Samsung flagships last.

Only negative might be that the S10/s10e are not supported anymore, but 🤷 you and I were fine all these years so…

The S10e is just a smaller version of the S10 right?

How would it compare to this Motorola? If it's the same as the S10 I would say the Motorola would have much better battery life (probably 2+ days) but other than that, maybe slightly sluggish, bad camera, able to keep open more apps, larger… Personally not swapping for this.

    • Such a broad question, and full of personal preference.
Id personally say very favorably, because you get to escape touchwiz/oneui, and go to stock android; but you might hate that.

What areas is your s10e failing to satisfy? Then we can advise on if it will fix your experienced shortcomings or not :)

    • thanks … reason I'm looking to change is I keep getting Battery deterioration warning and yes my battery life has reduced.. also mic has started to give problems …and yes no more updates

      • Well then yes; any new phone will resolve all 3 of those issues.

Motorola typically have less years of updates, so it's not as long-standing as you might be used to in Samsungs ecosystem, but its also a vanilla experience; so its more performant\less bloated OS out of the box (which I value).

I'm a heavy user on the previous G82 (which shares the same SoC); 1TB memory card of H265 and FLAC media, emulation, SSH and Virtual Server Administration, RAW image processing, etc. and its able to smoothly handle these tasks.

So if your concerns are Battery, Mic and Updates; yes, this will resolve this.

  • +2

    Great phone for the money.
Battery life is incredible and I only charge in the car now, not at home.

Only issues I have are that I need to manually unlock the phone before Android Auto will connect. Supposedly a fix is in the works.
Some MacroDroid volume based automations seem to not always work (could be software but worked on previous phone).
Can't get slow motion to work in GCam app (meh).

    • What's the appeal of adroid auto? like what does it do that makes you go 'hell yeah'.

      • +1

Nothing about it makes me go 'hell yeah'. But it puts the essentials at your fingertips while driving. Limited control of apps while driving and uses the cars interface screen/wheel/buttons. Voice control works well for app functions, and some car functions. In most instances is illegal and dangerous to use your phone while driving. Android Auto/Apple Carplay are legal and infinitely more safe.

        • Ah. Thank you for explaining. My car turns 20 this year so that is why I couldn't understand the appeal.

  • Im looking for a $300+ phone that is e sim compatible, any recommends?

  • Sorry, how can I apply the coupon?

  • -1

Why would someone waste money on a Snapdragon 695 mobile phone?

    • What would you recommend for $300 then? Serious question.

      • -2

There are heaps of options from Aliexpress.

  • This or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/859693 Samsung A35 for CAMERA

my youngest lad is taking a photgraphy course as part of his extension program and his poco 3 phone camera isn't very good (phone is old too)

Any recommendations for camera in the 300 to 400 ish range?

    • Better off buying something like a refurbished Pixel 6 or 7.

  • Is this phone decent for light gaming?
