Magic TV MTV4000PVR 1TB PVR - Just $149 from DealSpace

110

Magic TV 1TB PVR. I bought one of these a few months ago, and am very pleased with it. I saw this today at what I think is a bargin price. Has most of the bells and whistles you'd expect from a much more expensive machine.

ITB hard drive,
Twin tuners,
upscales to 1080p,
able to export recordings from hard drive,
one touch record.

Wifi dougle available.

I'm a First time poster so I hope you'll find this of interest

Seems to be a decent price although important to note that it is refurbished with only a 3 month warranty. Option to extend to 12 months is $49.95

    Seems ok …

  • What is the EPG like? Can it use an iceTV subscription?

Only 11% off new price for a used PVR is not a bargain.
With this deal you get a used PVR
add $15 shipping, $25 Dongle, $50 to extend warranty to 1 year.
BUT New units cost only $30 more with all that!
$269 including Wifi dongle, 12 month warranty, & free shipping

(Dongle sounds almost useless according to reviews)

    • Thanks for pointing new price out and for the helpful review links, but I think it's a pretty good price - I'm thinking about paying via platinum cc which has double warranty and change of mind cover. Don't intend on getting the dongle which seems not that great, and wondering if they allow pickup as I have a family member up in Minto.

So for me it really is a straight up $149 vs $269, which is more 45(ish)% off for me.

      • +1

        Yes - Free pickup!
Dongle seems only useful to transfer recordings, but PVR has ethernet.
Just was comparing price like with like, but this is OzBargain!

      • What platinum credit card has and change of mind cover?

Assuming it's a SATA 2 1TB HDD in there, it would be slightly cheaper to buy this PVR and extract the HDD rather than buying a HDD itself :P

    • +1

Its a USED HDD! Thats the most worrying part of this deal!
You would pay $149 for a 1TB HDD that has been used for an unknown amount of time writing & reading large files rather than $59 for a new one???
(PVR HDD usually lack error correction needed in PC, normally a AV or CE unit)
      There was a external 2TB on OzBargain yesterday for $89 & 1TB for $59.

Ah bugger. I missed the "used" part…and missed those deals too :(
Just based on the Thailand floods affecting HDD prices, it seem like good idea to extract the HDD :P
        But never mind.

  • Can the hard drive be easily replaced in these ones?

  • Got this back from them regarding 'reconditioned' & warranty.

'Generally minor cosmetic damage as they have been handled, and originally DOA so we have repaired any issues (software issues mostly)

You can select either a 3 or 12 month warranty 12 months costs and extra $49.95'

I'm not sure whether to try it or not.

  • Just bought this.. let's hope the reconditioning holds up!

    • did you go for the 12 month warranty?

  • +1

I must admit I missed the "reconditioned" part in the ad as i was reading it up on my phone. So, um sorry about that. Having said that they are pretty good units, and I'm very happy with the one I got a few months ago. The EGP works well, and I like the UI of the machine. Best bits are definately ease of use, extending the recording time of programes, ad skipping and being able to export the recordings to a hard drive, and play on other TV's in the house. My only gripe is I thought it series linked shows, but doesn't. My understanding is that option is on the Freeview model. If anyone knows diffrently i'd be pleased to hear some feedback

The dongle maybe isn't all that necessary, but I'm pleased I got it as it will do the firmware updates over wifi (so far it's had 2 updates). Much easier than running ethernet cables etc. A side note is for $25 you get the dongle and HDMI cable. I think I got hit up for $30 just for the dongle, when I got mine.

Also if you like your gadgets, there is also a free iPhone/Android app you can download and use as a remote control. Not really a huge selling point, but a bit of fun and gives you option of maybe hiding the pvr in a cabinet out of sight or something.

Thanks everyone for the positive comments.

  • Price has increased to $179!
So with added dongle and 1 year warranty, delivered only $10 cheaper than new one!!

    • (OOPS!) Now $179.99 - USED - Now dearer than a NEW one!!!
Total price including dongle, 1year warranty & delivery (same as with new PVR) $269.85!
