I prefer real $ or discount than credit tho

    • +1

Yeah I was trying to think what I would use $100 of google credit for….

      • can you use it for extra space with Google?

      • +4

chromecast with Android TV may be?

      • +5

Another super expensive product from the Google store!

      • I used mine for the $59 Google Pixel Fabric Case. Have $40 left over for buying the Nest WiFi when it goes on sale.

  • Help I can't decide between this and the S20 FE 5G!? how do you choose one over the other?! which is better in terms of long run, speed, durability, waterproof, battery , ? none of these have wireless charging right ?

    • +1

The FE has wireless and reverse wireless charging while 4A does not. FE has a significantly faster processor. FE has more camera lenses. FE has a bigger battery. FE has a bigger screen. 4A is not rated water resistant while FE is.

      • touch screen issue apparently is a thing still? I've just read the S21 range out soon which it's base model is on par with S20 FE and cheaper than S20 range? too many options, too long out of the game. Just a good reliable phone that will last another few years (S7 waiting to be replaced).

    • +2

Be aware the FE has some serious touch screen issues.

    • You should go for 4a for the following reasons. It’s a pixel so you get software updates straight from google and your phone stays current for years. You get the best camera(computational photography) out there. For all other reasons FE is a better choice.

      • your phone stays current for years

Not as many as you would think, however. The Pixel 2 is now dead & buried according to Google - no Android 11 for me :(

        • wow, great you still using a pixel 2. Is it your daily driver n how’s the battery coping up?

          • @0zyt0zy: Still daily driver. Battery has gone to shit but.

Mine's not as bad as the missus, but it won't last the day and if you load it up (i.e. get a call while taking photos) it'll just turn off and restart. Annoyingly when this happens it hasn't saved any photos you've taken, so you lose them too.

We presume the battery can't take the load anymore so the voltage drops low off enough for it to switch off (whether the switching off is protection or because it just can't operate at that voltage, I don't know).

We both have desk jobs, so we're managing ok with charges though the day although looking to replace very soon. They're ~3yo.

            • @Chandler: Put your phone in flight mode when you want to take pictures.

        • +1

Updates will stop for pixel 2 yes, but android 11 rolled out a long time ago. Also Google promised 3 years of updates and they delivered. Apart from Apple that's the longest update support I guess.

I recently bought 4a 5G, and Im loving it. Ive been a Samsung user for over 3 years and battery just sucks and samsung slows down over time. but Pixel is a lot faster and the camera is better than iPhone 11 and similar to iPhone 12. also Pixels battery last more than a day.

      • what previous Samsung model? i wonder if much slowing down is noticeable if it's now a SD CPU. ergh tough decision as the FE seems good, but pixel is cleaner and more efficient.

      • Pixel 4a 5g and Pixel 5 is slower than Samsung Fe. The 4a non 5g is much slower. Keep in mind, most phones will allow down and battery will degrade - for Android anyway. I've owned nearly all pixels for experience.

    • The FE is a better spec'd phone than this, but it's more comparable to the pixel 5 rather than this

  • Pixel 5 was 749? At black Friday

    • Yes, plus add those HIM/HER cards with 10% off, and it comes down to under $700

  • 599 for Boxing Day? wishful thinking.

    • Yeah if the sales now aren't hot enough for you and you're happy to wait, see what deals are around in the post-Christmas sales.

Having said that there's every possibility they could be worse.

    • U can wait to see if jb, harven Norman, good guys or officeworks has this on sale during boxing day. If they do, u should be able to buy it from Google store and then request a price match (plus receive the Google store credits too)

Disclaimer, I've not done it before. DYOR

Pixel 5 was $749 for several weeks outright at Telstra.

  • better to get it from Telstra store $549 with $250 credit discount upfront. In store only

    • Outright?

    • Does that apply to pixel 5?

  • Should I pick this Pixel 4a over Pixel 5? And why or why not?

    • +1

The phones are very similar. Basically you get a better screen and bigger battery in the 5 and that's about the only tangible difference (there are other differences like the 4a 5g having an audio jack or the 5 having water and dust resistance ratings, but tbh regardless of ratings just keep your phone as clean as possible)

Side-by-side specs comparison, I chose the 4a 5G primarily for the bolded specs which were either the same as the Pixel 5 or better, at a cheaper price point.

  • Pixel 5 is being price matched by Optus as Telstra are giving $250 credit against the phone, just got it for $749, on a plan though.

    • Got a link? I'm not familiar with the Optus website, but all the phone are showing as plans.

  • been waiting for the regular (non 5g) 4a to go on sale anywhere. Hasn't budged almost since it was released.

    • It was down to around $533 at JB for singles day

Otherwise, I've not seen it discounted recently. Not for Aus stock anyway.

      • Yeah, kicking myself for missing that one

          If it's any solace, @kerodean, you're not alone! ;)

  • Whats the price on the Pixel 5 these days?

No weather sealing is a biotch on $1000 phone heh

  • is this the reason google down yesterday? ozbargainized…

  • How good is the Pixel 4A 5G for taking 4K60FPS video?

  • Still unsure what that $100 credit is good for…

  • Has anyone received the credit yet from Google ?

    • Yes. Why?

      • I am waiting, that's why asked. Just wondering if need to follow up or need to redeem from somewhere

        • It should show up in the Google store (note but the play store)
