      • Sure in a perfect world but plenty have loaded parents and the true ones don't give a ^~ about bragging about anything , Its a given lol

        • Yeah but it just creates weird kids. It's a ticket to jerkville.

          • @justtoreply: And there's where some of the bullying begin.

Oh why are you so poor?
Oh why can't you afford the latest iPhone?

            • @xoom: Yeah. Generally because those kids have parents who aren't great at parenting.

Schools should be able to force management plans onto parents whose kids are bullies. Instead it's just a stroll through the principal's office, even with the parents included they just go home and do nothing. No surprise that nothing changes.

    • Good trolling

  • Geez, some people would buy a bag of $hit if it had an Apple logo.

    • +2

      No logo on these :p

      • It's not a bag of shit, just headphones. The argument is that a bag of shit with an Apple logo would sell. It might.

    • +1

Why dont you try? You could be a 2 trillion dollar company. Its easy.

  • If you aren't on the Apple bandwagon these are all the same price or less and probably a shitload better:

    https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/collections/focal/products/fo…

    https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/collections/sale/products/sen…

    https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/collections/sale/products/son…

Better prices on the xm4s around but I'm a fan of addicted to audio and tend to buy my shit there if the price is pretty close - obviously less money for the same product is a better thing.

  • +4

Wow four pages of jealous apple haters that can't afford their products. If you were in the ecosystem you'd understand. I walked into Apple on launch day to buy a pair, walked out with two. Second best product this year they've released, after the M1 Macs.

    • What persuaded you to buy two? In your opinion, how do they stack up IRL against the more mainstream Sony or Bose headphones? I'm desperately trying to find a reason not to buy these…

      • +6

Because I bought Sony XM4s (via ozbargain actually) only a week before these were announced and based on reviews. They are now on eBay. These AirPods sound markedly better, crisper cleaner lows mids and highs. Switching between devices is a dream as it is with all AirPods, the Sony’s were a pain. They are so much more comfortable without getting hot ear pads I can wear these for hours. Physical controls, support for soundstage audio, there is a Dolby Atmos demo over in the whirlpool thread that just sounds out of this world, the Sony’s are no match. Watching movies is incredible on the AirPods. Are they expensive? Of course, but buying from Apple gives you until 8th Jan to return them no questions asked. It only took a day for me to be convinced I’ll be keeping them.

        • +1

Thanks for the detailed review, much appreciated.

        • +1

Agree with the really good sound, and the convenience when switching devices compare with my xm3’s, but xm3’s are a lot more comfortable for me, but they do get hot, prefer apple’s ear pad.

    • +4

Can't afford? Lol. Mine are more expensive than this.

Just expecting that price doesn't match audio quality, that's all.

      • +1

"expecting" - is that based on a line of really bad audio products by Apple? Shit sounding homepod, macbook, apple watch, iPhone etc etc

  • -1

anyone know where i can get this? really need one for christmas present

    • +1

Line up at an apple store every day 15min before opening hoping to reserve one if they get a shipment. I’m sure they’ll get one more shipment at least for retail, before Xmas day. Apple store also get stock reserved for retail walk-ins only. Don’t rely on the website for click and collect. Usually click and collect stock only shows up if they have a multiples. But these items could be delivered 2-5 at a time so might not make the website.

      • thanks, i just ordered from JB with express delivery. Suppose to deliver next week so fingers crossed. Otherwise it will be an awkward christmas with no present from me. lol

  • +3

Personally I rate their iPad as the best tablet on the market & the iPod Airs were pack leaders for a few years but these would have to be a mile above the Bose or the Sony's to justify the huge price difference & the reviews don't seem to say that.

So it's an isheep purchase, but will doubtless make them lots more money.

  • +2

Typical story. Apple releases silly product at silly price and silly sheep buys them in droves.
The fact that this thing weighs so much is already a testament that Apple only care about making product that looks and feels premium in order to lure the sheep.

Why would you want something so heavy resting on your head over a long period of time?

Earcups will be scratch magnets too being made of metal. Seriously?

No wires out of the box?

For a supposedly premium headphone it doesn't even support high fidelity codecs?

  • +3

Is this the new Monster Cable?

    • -1

      Pretty much. $50 for a $5 cable, $800 for $80 headphones.

  • +1

Upvoted. Cuz I found the joke funny

  • +2

Just amazing the retail robbery that Apple can get away with. I guess it's the same as gucci handbags and Versace shoes etc..

  • +1

Apple pouch sold separately for $299 only 🤣😂🤣

    • Hmm. Get pouch or buy sony xm3? Pouch it is.

  • +3

As an ex-XM3 user and now an AirPods Pro user (I’m in Apple ecosystem), I can totally understand why it’s sold out until March. It’s an Apple headphone that integrates nicely and seamlessly into its ecosystem, a unique Apple user experience (and a bloody good one) that no other company can provide no matter how good their products are.

Everyone justifies their purchases differently, some aim for best-bang-for-buck, some aim for ease-of-use, some aim for luxury branding or feel, some aim for best-performance-regardless of price, etc.

Bashing people buying a LUXURIOUS product that you (most likely) can’t afford just make you look sour, just like the Chinese proverb “those who can’t reach the grapes will say it’s sour”.

    • These headphones are not a luxurious product, just overpriced piece of tech. One can only admire Apple for being able to sell products at prices that are 80% profit. Amazing.

They do have some products that are great value, though. iPod, Apple TV, and even Watch SE may be in that category. Not these headphones.

    • +3

I don’t think people in this forum/website can’t afford this headphone, I think they just can’t see the justification of buy it that’s all.
Having said that I agreed with you, the seamless integration is a massive selling point for some. (I am ex-XM3, ex-Bose user and currently has a pair of MS headphone 2) Even some of the headphone support multiple devices connection, sometime the switching between devices could be painful.
I own every single kind of apple device (Mac/iPhone/iPad/AppleWatch/ApplePencil/HomePod/AirPod Pro/Apple TV), but I still can’t justify the price of $799 for a pair of headphone 🤦🏻‍♂️

      • +2

but I still can’t justify the price of $799 for a pair of headphone

People take this as "you can't afford it"

        Sad but true.

        • Yup.

When we (most of us, myself included) need to “justify” a price tag, it’s mostly because it’s going over our budget or something.

My relatives who are filthy rich will not take a look at the price tag of a dress and will just bring it to the counter to pay for it, no justification from price point of view needed.

          • @tadasu: The way I see this headphones. Will getting this over the qc35ii be twice as good as its twice the price. If the answer is no. Then its a no in buying it. Not because I dont have money for it. I do but seem wasteful to me if its not going to be atleast twice as good given the price.

            • @xoom: There’s always this “law” of diminishing return. It’s hard to gauge if something twice as expensive is twice as good, it’s very subjective.

And it’s completely none of my business if that’s your rule of thumb when buying a product, that something which costs twice as much should be twice as good.

What I don’t understand is why some people bashing others calling them “sheep” etc when their subjective view differs.

Edit: oh well, I guess there’s just lots of different types of people around, and that’s what makes us, us.

              • +1

@tadasu: And thats exactly right. The returns diminish significantly coming from a $300-$400 bluetooth headphones to an $800 bluetooth headphones.

Its the comments that oh you just cant afford it. That really irks me though. Such a dismissive comment. Not really swaying anyone to buy these with comments like these.

What i really want to see if what exactly makes these $800 worth what they are worth. Are there game changing features that warrant such a high price?

Ultimately i dont care if apple people want to pay $2000 for headphones. Dont give me this bs that samsungs top flagship phone cost more than apple because we all know apple started it. And its user base just sat there and took it. Now before anyone get your panties in a twist. Im not anti apple. Im against anything that result in consumers paying more and getting less.

Its this action that will likely ruin it for a lot of consumers because instead of having $1000 phones we now have $2000 phones. Soon we will start seeing even more expensive gadgets.

                • @xoom: I don’t like the assumption that “if I can’t justify it, then it means I can’t afford it” either, unfortunately it’s just how it is.

On the subject of ever rising price of smart phones, Apple somehow is also starting to offer lower tier priced products as well, such as iPhone SE, same for other companies such as Samsung as well.

It’s actually not the flagship phones that sell well, but the mid tier/non-pro iPhones that make the bulk of their sales. Flagship Apple phones only make about 20-30% of iPhone sales if I remember correctly from some YouTube videos by MKBHD. The low to mid tier phones are actually offering better value than say… >5 years ago, and perfectly fine for the average user.

So I don’t think any company is at fault for pricing their flagships similar to a laptop nowadays. It just caters to a minority and different group of consumers. We have a lot of choices still, I don’t see how it’s ruining us consumers.

                  Edit: here’s the video https://youtu.be/azrdcp4yYas
Also, inflation. I remember clearly a big Mac meal was $~6 about 13 years ago, and now it’s bloody $12-13 lol

2nd edit: spot on review https://youtu.be/_zlv5XYUq1A posted by dealsucker below. It just made me decided to get one.

    Here you go haters

    • +2

thanks for sharing. the problem is not everyone is an audiophile and the gauge of good sound quality varies tremendously. Some people think of boom boom as good, some like it crisps, some prefer good tonal seperation or wide soundstage, just no right or wrong because it's all personal. so i think best to try out, and if you like it and can afford it, why not. YOLO

my opinion is, if you are buying purely based on sq, can't try out before purchasing, and if you are happy with spotify standard definition, and can't tell the difference when streaming tidal master, then i would say stick to the standard bose or sony

    • Lol, why are you so combative? There's no arguing that these headphones are extremely expensive. It's fine to burn your own money, no problem at all.

      • +4

Because there is no point to it. Expensive compared to what? And if they are expensive, I will find you another headphone more expensive than this and isnt built even on the same standards as this one? As always the worth is in the eye of the customer buying the product with his own money and the product itself.

When did you see people going on Sony and Bose threads to say how ridiculously they are priced compared to Taotronics? If you are so worried about people burning their "own" money, why not give some to them since you "care" so much about what they do with their own money.

All this is just fake virtue signalling, bitterness that you either cannot afford good things in life or bitter than others can.

    • When editing video: Contrast 100% Exposure 100%.

  • What's the point of a neg deal button if your vote gets removed by a moderator?

    • +5

Why would you neg this? It’s 11% off a product that only just came out, where Apple products rarely see discounts like that so early. Whether you like the product or not, it’s a good deal for those who want to buy this product. Neg deal button is only appropriate when people post a deal as RRP or 1% off.

  • nice looks like the case is a nice little bra/handbag to carry around

Here are some of the reviews:

    CNET 8.9 (vs XM4s at 9.1)
    TheVerge 8.5 (vs XM4s at 9)

I just think for a product that doesn't beat the competition and costs twice as much, even with the Costco discount, shouldn't be classified as a bargain.

Apple does produce some good things, like the m1 macbooks, but these headphones aren't one of them. Products like these should be shunned as it basically gives Apple a license to produce substandard equipment knowing they've got a group of non savvy people they can always milk for a lot of cash.

I can guarantee if these are a success, more substandard items will be introduced.

    • XM4's — Theverge
      Sony’s best noise-canceling capabilities yet
      Improved voice quality
Support for two simultaneous Bluetooth connections
      BAD STUFF
USB-C port cannot be used for audio
No significant design changes after two years
      Cold-weather improvements are unproven

      AirPods Max — Theverge
      GOOD STUFF
      High-luxury design
      Terrific, balanced sound quality
      Very effective noise cancellation
      Dependable and foolproof controls
      Spatial audio for immersive entertainment
      BAD STUFF
      Heavier than many competitors
      No 3.5mm jack
      Wired listening requires $35 cable
      Case is an abomination
Apple Music can’t make the most of these headphones

A review about headphone and its sound quality doesnt feature in the good stuff list. Thats XM4 by the way. It DOES beat the competition. Ratings yeah!

      P.S. https://thenextweb.com/plugged/2018/07/18/review-taotronics-…
I just think for a product that doesn't beat the competition and costs THRICE as much, even with the discount, shouldn't be classified as a bargain.

      • The main issue with these headphones are that they are $300-600 headphones at best being sold for $900.

I'd argue they don't even follow the traditional Braun design language that a lot of Apple products have in the past and that the Sony and Bose headphones are actually closer in this respect.

        • So if they sound better, have better noise cancellation, much better quality (they have no equal even at $2000 or when it comes to quality), excellent after sales service, numerous quality of life improvements if you have an iPhone and even more if you own multiple Apple devices and some exclusive features such as spatial audio - how in world are they substandard? Can't get over how obtuse your non exisiting argument is.

Are Sony's sub standard compared to $70 Taotronics? How can Sony cost more than 3 times the price?

P.S. As shocking as it is, they do come with replaceable batteries? Can you put a price on it?

          • @dealsucker: You only have one review, which is from 2018, before the wm4 came out. Also they were probably scoring on its value. Now the Taotronics are probably fine, but they are probably only comparing that to the sub $200 bracket. In multiple reviews of the Airpod Maxes, they have pretty much always been compared to the wm4s

            • @Pcoder: How are Airpods Max sub-standard if they are better than XM4's? How are Sony XM4 substandard if they are better than Taotronics?

              • @dealsucker: We'll if you've looked at the reviews provided they scored them lower and they have directly mentioned the wm4s. They substandard as they don't include support for higher quality codecs, have worse battery life, but still cost more than twice as much as they wm4s.

They need to cut the price of these to $600 or less the be considered a good deal.

                • @Pcoder: No they havent scored them lower than XM4's. XM4's audio quality isnt even listed in the good stuff for heaven's sake! Are you really that obtuse? Never mind the codecs or your understanding of them, how do they sound better than XM4's then given they dont even support the so called codes? Like what the F is Sony doing with the codec? Applying the same logic, Taotronics use all the BLE codes so they must be as good as XM4's in which case according you your logic XM4's are crap and overpriced junk.

As for the codec, Apple devices use AAC which Android is ill equipped to handle and even though it is lossy, its pretty good. LDAP is a lossy too. Go figure. I know you dont know j@ck $hit!

                  • @dealsucker:

Never mind the codecs or your understanding of them, how do they sound better than XM4's then given they dont even support the so called codes?

Yes, that's the point. They physically cannot sound better than the XM3s/XM4s/QC 35 IIs/Bose 700s.

Lol, "never mind the codecs"; yes because you don't like facts that burst your fragile bubble.

The AirPod Maxes only support sh*tty SBC and AAC codecs with maximum bitrates of 320 - 345Kbps @ 24-bit 44.1KHz.

                    XM3s/XM4s support LDAC (max. bitrate 990Kbps @ 24-bit 96Khz) and the Bose QC 35 II/700 support AptX HD (max. bitrate 576 Kbps @ 24-bit 48Khz).

Even with all the DSP in the world, there's no substitute for massive gaps in the frequency spectrum and chunks of missing audio data.

Like what the F is Sony doing with the codec?

Mate, you don't even own the XM3s/XM4s nor will own the AirPod Maxes so why are you getting so damned worked up about this?

                    I know you dont know j@ck $hit!

I'd rather any pair of BT headphones than a model that forces me to listen to SBC/AAC streams (my God, the last time I did it felt like I was listening to my favourite songs played through a tin can telephone), that can't be completely turned off unless you put them in the provided brasserie holster, that don't have a 3.5mm jack, with a rubbish battery life (20 hours versus 30 hours for the Sony's) and to top it all off, because this can't be said enough, that cost $899 dollars.
