People eat apple's fresh shit in the morning and pay for it too, you sir are brave negging this $799 headphones.

    • Yeah you could but the sound quality wouldn't be as good. Recently brought the AirPods Pro from the eBay deal and the sound quality is pretty good with the XM3 being 5% better. I found the bass better on the AirPods and prefer the Apple's transparency mode overs Sony's.

      • Recently brought the AirPods Pro

        Where did you bring them?

      • Yeah you could but the sound quality wouldn't be as good.

Yes, Apple audio products are renowned for audiophile-level sound quality.

Shouldn't you be worshipping at your local Apple Store?

        • You do realise these are wireless right? Nothing is ever going to compare against something powered. In terms of the wireless headphone market share, the sound quality of these have been praised by many youtube reviewers and I'd agree. I had the AirPods 2 and they sounded like S**t. Then I brought the AirPods Pro for $250 because it was cheap. Had no hopes on them sounding good but when I tried it on the soundstage was pretty much on par with XM3. Lows were better on the AirPods pro but XM3 dominated the mids and highs with the Pros not falling too far behind. Also not an Apple fan boy.

          • @No Username: You explicitly said the sound quality on the XM4s wouldn't be as good as the AirPods, before largely contradicting yourself by saying that the XM3s have the edge over them.

the sound quality of these have been praised by many youtube reviewers and I'd agree.

And completely trashed by others; so it's incredibly $$$ubjective.

You do realise these are wireless right? Nothing is ever going to compare against something powered.

You do realise I'm comparing the AirPod Max against other wireless ANC BT headphones, right?
The XM3s, XM4s and QC 35 IIs do everything the AirPod Max does better and for way less. They even have 3.5mm jacks and don't come with retarded carrying bras.

Even if Apple made $800 wired, circumaural headphones they'd probably sound like $100 dollar entry-level cans from any other reputable headphone manufacturer.

Apple buyers and those concerned about sound quality are and always have been mutually exclusive categories of buyers.

I was talking about the Pro not the Max.

You do realise these are wireless right? Nothing is ever going to compare against something powered.
Yes, just like the XM3s, XM4s and QC 35 IIs. What's your point?

You were talking about "audiophile-level sound quality" I was simply stating that for something that runs off battery. It will never compare to something against an amp driven driver.

I'll wait for my Max to come then make a judgement on sound quality as I only own the AirPods 2 and Pro and found the Pro not too bad with pricing when compared to something like XM3.

I was talking about the Pro not the Max.

Not that it makes a difference as the reviewers I trust who aren't obviously doing paid promotions, don't give the AirPod Max glowing reviews.

The choice of SBC and AAC as the only supported BT codecs also strongly supports the case that the AirPod Max will sound worse than the XM3s and XM4s.

You were talking about "audiophile-level sound quality"

It was hyperbole. I was making the point that Apple audio products have never been known for even slightly above average standards of sound quality.

It will never compare to something against an amp driven driver.

The XM3s, XM4s and QC 35 IIs are not amp driven either. No BT headphones are; so again, we're comparing apples to apples here.

Yes I know. But you're talking about "audiophile-level sound quality." I'm simply stating the BT are no where near audiophile territory.

But you're talking about "audiophile-level sound quality."

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suite so let me spell it out for you in Crayola:

                    You said:

Yeah you could but the sound quality wouldn't be as good. (In reference to someone saying you can buy two XM4s instead of the AirPod Max)

                    I said:

Yes, Apple audio products are renowned for audiophile-level sound quality.

Sarcastically implying your comment is nonsensical since Apple products have never been known for sound quality and the XM4s would indeed sound better.

Nowhere did I say any BT ANC headphones are audiophile-grade. That's an assumption YOU incorrectly made.

                    You said:

I was talking about the Pro not the Max.

Right. Despite the fact you then said:

the sound quality is pretty good with the XM3 being 5% better.

So clearly, you're confused about not only my opinions but your own. It sounds like what you're doing is trying to comfort yourself after being subject to daylight robbery when you should have known better but still fell for the marketing hype.

There, there kiddo, maybe you can schedule an appointment with an Apple "Genius" so he can talk you into buying a $300 dollar accessory for your $800 headphones?

                    • @Gnostikos:

Damn dude chill out. You seem quite pissed. Don't take life too seriously this is just a Forum.

All I want to make clear is that Apple is no noob at audio stuff. They have the money to hire audio engineers to tune their stuff. Their HomePod sounds amazing when compared to my UE Mega Blast, JBL Flip 5 and My Friends Sonos (Not sure which model), The Macbook Pro has one of the best speakers I've heard when compared to my Alienware which also got good reviews for audio and the AirPods Pro did very well when compared to the XM3's with XM3's sounding 5% better, which is not by much. You also have to consider that the Pros are smaller and can't fit that many components. If I were to listen to EDM or Trap I would choose the Pros as it has more kick and bass. For all other genre I would just pick XM3's.

I'm an engineer. I know when I'm getting ripped off. The AirPods 2 were bad but the Pros are worth it's price IMO. The quality matches its price considering form factor and the transparency mode is wayyyy better than the XM3. In the end the Pros are better for me for when working in the office and I'm looking forward towards the Max. Currently with my XM3 using Ambient mode makes the music sound noisy whereas this is not noticeable on the Pros.

Also for reference my Audio files are streams from Spotify using Very High Settings and Tidal using both Master Files and Dolby Atmos.

                      • @No Username: Ignore him mate. He is just bitter. Part of the zombie crowd which looks at the on papers specs and already decides which is better no matter what anyone says.

                        Nice projection.

You're the one throwing a childish tantrum because of some text on the Internet that's got all you bent out of shape because you refuse to admit you couldn't read sentences properly.

I've been perfectly level-headed this entire time, but sure, I'm proving you wrong so therefore I'm an "angry" person, lol.

All I want to make clear is that Apple is no noob at audio stuff.

Yes, that's why you never, ever see them mentioned on any audiophile forums or in serious audiophile reviews when it comes to recommendations for headphones, DACs, amps, speakers, soundbars, MP3 players, etc.

FFS, stop peddling utter tripe, I wasn't born yesterday.

I'm an engineer. I know when I'm getting ripped off.

                        Spotify using Very High Settings

An audio engineer deeply concerned about sound quality listening to lossy Spotify streams?

I'm done with you. You are beyond redemption. Go waste someone else's time and peddle your drivel elsewhere.

And my question was rhetorical, you can't possibly compare them as you clearly don't own them.

Right, so everybody that disagrees with you or shares a different opinion is an Apple cultist? That's some reasonable logic you have there.

When not one person in this entire thread can state a valid justification for why these $800 dollar headphones are any better than equivalent headphones that cost 2.5 times less, the onus isn't on myself to be "reasonable", the onus is on the mindless lemmings blindly succumbing to groupthink to offer up something approaching a logical explanation.

And my question was rhetorical, you can't possibly compare them as you clearly don't own them.

Oh you poor child, I know you don't really believe that but it's nice to see you weasel your way out of an argument with strawman points. The mental gymnastics Apple fans need to justify their insane spending puts your run-of-the-mil sociopaths to shame.

                  • +1

@magic8ballgag: We really should start two threads on anything Apple, one for people like him to shit on and get their high with no objections, retaliation so it doesnt burst their bubble and the other for people who actually want to know and are interested in buying one.

        • Okay show me a speaker the same size as HomePod which sounds as good, or a laptop with the same form factor as any of Apple's laptops that sound as good, or an all in one computer which sounds as good as an iMac or the speaker on a watch which is as good as Apple watch or even iPhone to some extent. You think this is by accident?

  • Good bargain even for an overpriced product

  • Steve jobs:- you guys serious?

People who buy a $2000 iPhone don't care about an $800 headphone!!! They buy it easily! Apple know that it has customers to buy it. They raised the price of iPhone to almost $2.5k and people are still buying it. They even are going to ramp up their production by 20% next year and more expensive YOY!

    • And how much is a top end Samdung? lol

      • +4

Samsung is worse! Personally, I'd never buy a phone more than $1000! try to stick with an older version rather wasting $2k on a phone that needs to be replaced every 2-4 years!

When the ps5 came out everybody was mad about scalpers because they were greedy and stingy but apple is one of the worst and most stingyist price buldgering corrupt companies I've ever seen. I haven't bought an apple product since 06-07 and I never will. Their business practices through to their selfishness is something I will never respect. I just wish more people wouldn't buy their products.

I'm a fan of Costco, going to the store almost every week or two.
I have to warn people their online service due to the recent two and only online shopping experiences I had.

First time I ordered a box of stuff, with a few bags of seaweed squashed by heavy items on top. After filling the form sent through the link sent after, I received an email saying my comments was moderated as it does not meet their guideline.

Second experience was an order of their peanuts that I received yesterday. They do not have the same quality that I bought in store. Burt, and taste very average.

I was thinking they might be getting rid of things online at cheap price but please pay attention to their quality.

My cases were small, so I won't bother to call their customer service.

  • These doesn’t even have on/off button. You suppose to put it back in “so called” smart case which puts headphones in low power mode.

    • +2

Rumour is if you have noise cancellation on the highest and don't play any audio you can hear Steve Jobs orgasm.

Considering $399 AirPods Pro have often gone down on sale to $249 (~35% off), I feel it isn't a stretch to see these go sub-$600 once stock levels get better early next year, or maybe that's just wishful thinking who knows

Another precedent with $469 HomePods going down to $299, I feel Apple's audio products in general don't really follow their usual tight pricing regime

  • See there is 2 possibilities- for some time Sony and Bose sales will boost just because they now seem more reasonably priced like $400 compared to Apple's Airmax for $800 plus.

Second, this gives an opprtunity to Sony and Bose to release new headphones and price between $400 to $800 and make their products make more money for them as long as they are priced less than Apple products.

    • Sony make a range of headphones from like $20 to $2000, I can see them launching something like this if it sells well on top of the existing XM4

  • +3

FWIW: For the people that actually care about sound quality and not just following the sheeple. From what i know, iphones even the newest 12, only have Bluetooth codecs for SBC and AAC.

There is no bluetooth lossless codec on iphones, and even if you had the lightning dongle, the dongle in itself has a lame DAC built in for wired headphones. I dont like the fact Apple are advertising this thing as "Hi Fidelity", when you're going to be accessing the same lame lossy streams/conent regardless.

At least in the Sony's XM3/XM4 case they support LDAC codec, but Apple phones dont even support it, so it cant receive hi-bit rate media anyways.

    • I think it's more of a licensing thing. LDAC use to only exist for Sony products and is now included with Android 8.

  • airpod pro drops to 280 many places, image this will come to 500-600 soon

  • look apple marketing know its coming up to xmas, hence the price jack. Maybe in Feb they'll have some discounts. Kudos to costco for the price reduction.

  • +2

The reviews are actually very positive, sound quality is at least as good as xm4 or slightly better based on what I have read.
But the price is hard to fathom, 500 would have been a good price

  • The thing is - for all the talk about audio quality, the people that buy these headphones don't give a damn. It's about having the most expensive headphones, most expensive bag, most expensive watch, etc.

    • +1

Not sure why you got negged

  • I'm surprised that there's no Apple logo on the actual product, or is there?

    • -1

Ya can best believe that is damn intentional.

    • No logo at all.

    • +1

That's what all those Apple stickers were for.

  • hmmm
Just to clarify, is the price included blackjack and hookers?

    • That is extra. Please read the Terms & Conditions.

  • Lucky me, got 2

  • Lols aside, are these any good or worth it?

    • +2

      Here's a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDWgr7YEdTA&ab_channel=DaveL…

Compared to Sony's XM4's, worse battery life, heavier, similar NC, worse case, not foldable, no off button, easier pairing with apple products, less bass-heavy brighter sound, better soundstage, better build quality, spatial audio

  • There will be huge margins on this item. The AirPods Pro launched roughly a year ago, has already dropped sub $300 (25%+ off) multiple times - excluding the eBay plus sales. No doubt this will also have the same price drop

  • +1

Geez I can't help but wonder. You can't even turn these off because they don't have an off button! You have to use their ugly case that doesn't even protect the headphones!

  • Well unfortunately Apple started this trend of price increases long ago.
    (USD)
    iPhone X $999
    Pro Monitor Stand $999
    MacPro Wheels $699

And iPhone 13 Pro Max Plus Magsafe Super Charger $399

  • +1

From what I have heard these are heavy. I had the Sony 1000XM2's (about half the weight) and they would hurt after a few hours, the 1000XM3's are just light enough that I can wear them for long periods without pain.

As far as sound quality it can be subjective (and theoretical), I like the bass bias sound that Sony products tend to produce and I think they sound great.

The sound cancellation of the XM3's is amazing, couldn't imagine anything significantly better.

The only thing I could see these excelling at is microphone quality but I don't know if it's an attractive product overall, even for us Apple fans.

  • R.I.P for the reference headphone market. Next hd800 version should now cost $2500 based on the new standard pricing Apple has set for headphones.

    • Lol absolutely nobody is cross shopping those.

  • I'll wait for the next version when there's minor changes made to the head strap.

  • From a review on these in a foreign language. Compared to others they said ANC was actually worse. The breathable “mesh” pads they used on these headphones means noise isolation (before ANC) was bad compared to “pleather” pads of other ANC headphones.
This is a flaw in design and software / firmware update will have trouble fixing this issue.
