Free Sensibo (RRP $159) When Signing up to AGL Peak Energy Rewards

70

Just received this email from AGL:

'Thanks for joining our Peak Energy Rewards program.

As part of this year’s program you’re invited to join our exclusive Peak Energy Rewards + Sensibo trial, which will help you maximise your savings this summer.

Sensibo makes any split system air conditioner smart, allowing you greater control over your household energy, and automatically optimising your usage during our peak energy events.

What do I need to do?

We’ll send you a free Sensibo device (valued at $159) that’s yours to keep. You'll also earn a $20 sign up bonus if you set up your Sensibo by 15 January and take part in at least one peak event with it connected.

GET READY

Download the Sensibo app and plug in your device to get ready to join a peak event. When you receive an SMS asking if you’d like to participate, opt in by replying with a “Yes”.

You can earn up to $100 in bill credits* for reaching your pre-set energy reduction targets, and you’ll go in the draw to win one of four Smart Home Starter Kits.

TAKE PART AND EARN REWARDS

During the event, you don't need to do anything - AGL will automatically adjust your split system by no more than two degrees using your Sensibo.'

Was already looking at purchasing one, although I think they're way too over-priced at $130ish, now AGL are giving it to me for free! Also the $20 sign-up bonus is pretty decent too.

First 1000 customers only to sign up for the deal.

    Hmm

    • If you wanted to maximise your savings, you wouldn't use the air conditioner AGL

      FTFY

  • Seems to be targeted. I got “not eligible” when I tried to sign up using the link in post.

    • you have solar? i get the same but assume based on me having solar

      • same.. not eligble, i have solar

        • No solar, but I don’t have a split aircon either, have ducted. But not sure if AGL would have that info.

  • How do I check if my aircon works with Sensibo?

    • do you have an IR remote? if so (i would be surprised if you didnt) then it does :)

  • thats $159 too much to spend on a product like this. I have my broadlink ir blaster for this and it does more that just aircon. I understand this is free but i'm just saying if someone is thinking about buying this

the broadlink blaster is just an IR blaster (i have one too and use it for this currently). The Sensibo has temp and humidity sensors built in so it can trigger actions automatically depending on room conditions.

As a user of Sensibo for the last couple of years, they are absolutely fantastic. Got even better with their UI update this year.

  • Origin have a very similar plan - https://www.originenergy.com.au/spike/

Although after the heat yesterday I think I would still rather use my aircon during peak time if that was to become a peak event :)
If you are someone who goes out to the beach instead during these potential peak events then may be more worthwhile.

  • Seems that you may have to be a AGL Peak Energy Rewards member already to be eligible to opt in on the Sensibo promo.

  • I got something similar to this where they offer you $10 and then up to $70 to allow AGL adjust your power usage during summer.

  • Curious how you couldn't just over-ride their temp reduction by using the remote? It wouldn't be able to tell unless the room-temp dropped to precisely what you set it to (e.g. 22c vs 24c) and it could detect the anomaly. Or maybe they are relying on people to not be bothered enough to do this.

Just use black tape to cover the ir light on the sensibo during the heat and you're set

    • You can drop the temp as much as you like, AGL doesn't care. AGL won't drop more than 2C. They are sending commands to sensibo via API.

  • I think this may be targeted as I received an error message saying that I may not be eligible for this program.

    • It is targeted, "…To be eligible, you must be a Peak Energy Rewards customer"

Without doing any reading, on how AGL control your aircon temperature via the Sensibo, I'd be concerned if I had to grant them access to a smart home device within my home….

  • I have already joined Peak energy, but I'm still not eligible? Do they know whether you have a split system or ducted reverse cycle?

  • This is what I am getting >Thank you, this offer has now reached the maximum number of participants

    • Yes, same

  • I have joined the Peak Energy but I think it's different offer for different people. Mine is up to $100 off bill.
