$400 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card on Telstra Port in / New Number to Telstra on $59/Month Plan (12 Months) @ JB Hi-Fi

310

As per the image, picked up yesterday at JB HiFi in Fountain Gate [likely to be applicable other JB stores].

JB Exclusive BYO SIM offer!
Port a number to Telstra and receive a
$400 JB Gift Card!

$59 per month (after $10 credit is applied for 12 months)
80 GB Data

12 Month Contract

Minimum cost over 12 months $708.
Offer only valid for customers connecting a new number to Telstra.
Not available for customers porting from Belong or Boost services

Ends 3/1/21

"… a new number to Telstra", should mean porting in from services that are NOT either Belong or Boost. Surprised that Aldi Mobile isn't mentioned, so it may be an option for porting.

So long as you have a use for the JB Gift Card, which doesn't expire btw, then you can say that it is effectively $308 for 12 months or about $26.67 per month. Obviously you get the gift card immediately and you will pay $59 per month for each of the first 12 months. I would expect an early cancellation fee to apply, naturally.

I recently ported away, not sure if it is long enough to port back in, but I expect to try and do so before the 4th of January (probably on the 2nd or 3rd for me).

NB: There is no mention of this deal on JB's website, you need to visit anyway, but the printout as shown in the image was at the shop entrance.

This deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/593258 is better, but it's only good for the 26th December now…. (an extra $100 on the giftcard).

Was it 500 bucks G card last time?

    • -5

No, I went on the $65 plan at the time and got a $400 card. I did quit with a couple of months to go, but haven't seen any penalty yet even though the "My Telstra" app leading to my account contract said I'll be up for about $70. I had planned to move away and perhaps return with another deal like this current one.

I also got a $30 prepaid card for $15 with 6 month expiry once activated; I might not use that now — it was going to be my ticket to AFL Live for the 6 months. It was a little tricky to find the deal, so haven't posted it here…. I might do that yet, but I don't think so as I have my own time limitations and so many other things to do.

Yes, that deal is instore only and not really advertised. It was $500 for 1 day only, then back to $400 for the rest of the promotion period

It is actually a $69 Telstra plan w. 80gb data, discounted to $59 for 1 year

    • yeah it was $500GC which was fantastic because it went so well i was put on a call-back list and by the time they called me back 4-5days later my Optus plan was over and incurred no fees lol. GC paid for my kids replacement iPad (that we were always buying him) and as a result, I walked away with a ~$17/m plan lol

Does anyone know if any better deals will be coming up for Telstra than this. My plan expires in January.

    • +20

Let me check my crystal ball and get back to you!

    • +3

I think best one was $500 gift card on a $65 plan for 12 months

      • Yes, well my one was $400 on a $65 plan (back in February); this one is $400 on a $59 plan (after $10 off each month), 10x 12 = $120 — so, perhaps you can equate that to $520 value?

It looks like the $45 plan is now $49 and the $65 plan is now $69 going by the deals that are currently showing on JB's website

        • This is a link from the current JB website, which doesn't show the $10 off per month, nor the extra 20GB of data:

It also shows the following at the top of the Shopify linked URL:

JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys BYO Mobile Plans
          Critical Information Summary
This summary may not reflect any discounts or promotions which may apply from time to time

I got $500 gift card on $59 plan recently from Good Guys with 80GB per month for 12 month plan.

    • Okay, but I would prefer a JB gift card myself; don't know what The Good Guys are offering right now though.

    • Hi mate when was this?

  • +3

I would wait till Boxing Day to see if they run the normal deal. It's been way too long since it last ran.

  • +3

Not bad if you will be buying at JB Hi-Fi or wait and see $500 GC offer if there is on boxing day. I personally picked the $99 - $10 credit = $1,068 + $99 up front for S20 FE 5G, then sold it for $800 after advertising for a day. So basically I am paying $30.58 p/mo for 150GB. Good if you need the extra data for a few $.

    • -2

Plus you have the $500 GC or you didn't get that because it wasn't a new number to Telstra?

Edit: If you also got the $500 GC, it would work out about negative $11.08 per month! That is, you paid (or will be paying) $1,167 by the end of the 12 months — but you've already got $800 back plus $500 GC, so $1,167 - $1,300 = -$133 / 12 = -$11.08 ?

      • Was told by a reliable contact that it’s 30 days being ported away from Telstra in order to qualify as a ‘new’ customer. Hardwired in their system so no loopholes anymore.

There will also highly likely be follow up Boxing Day deals at TGG similar to these. Currently serving my time on Optus in anticipation of this.

        • Yeah, TGG is owned by JB, so it makes sense that the PDFs with the terms and conditions mentions both TGG and JB and that the deals are usually in sync.

I don't know if you could use a TGG GC at JB or vice versa though.

      • Hey mate, no no not with +$500. What I meant is the deal you posted would be nice if they would give a $500 GC instead of $400.

This is the deal that I took https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/591578

        • Yeah, but with the $99 upfront for the mobile, you wouldn't get any gift card — it would be one or the other, so the "edited" post above with the negative monthly cost makes no sense and is not possible.

  • +1

So what happens to current loyal Telstra customers ? Am I not eligible for this ?

Meaning I need to Upgrade direct with Telstra to their $55 pm @ 40gb and no gift card.

    • +2

Just leave for a month and come back like the rest of us?

      • All good. I read in an old post you can sign up to a new service and then combine it via Telstra live app.

Combining then removes the old plan but keeps the old number onto the new plan.

      • The only thing stops me to leave and come back is the telstra plus points which is reset, with arent much enough to redeem something worth, i guess this is marketing strategy but i will leave anyway

        • +2

No they are not. As per t&c they are reset after 12mo of no active service on your account.

  • I went in to JB on the weekend to try get them to match TGG deal of $800 off iPhone on $99 plan. They couldn’t see it (in store only) so couldn’t verify to match but the guy said he’s expecting new deals for Boxing Day.

  • +1

beware it doesn’t include international call

    • Anything to do with international is not included, even plain SMS.

      • Can this added as an addon?

  • Can you purchase the Telstra sim with an existing JBs gift card? Or do you only sign up at JBs and then make payments to Telstra?

    • +1

Telstra sim is free in this deal. You pay the $59 monthly plan fee directly to Telstra not to JB if that is your question and no you cannot use JB gift card to pay Telstra $59 monthly fee.

  • +1

No $500 card? I'm on an expired prepaid atm waiting for a deal lol

  • +4

I guess just wait for the boxing day deal which might be the $500 GC.

  • Has anyone been able to get this deal at other JB stores? Fountain Gate is not too far for me but I would rather just go to my nearest JB.

  • Anyone knows how long do you have to be non-Telstra customer? I ported out of Telstra to Aldi on 19/11. Can I be eligible?

  • Anyone knows how long do you have to be non-Telstra customer? I ported out of Telstra to Aldi on 19/11. Can I be eligible?

  • It looks to be the $69 plan - want to double check and confirm that this service allows for 5G coverage? i noted that their lower end plans does not include the 5G coverage.

    Thanks

    • Yes, it does cover 5g if you have a compatible phone.
I just signed up an hour ago.

      • Getting half a gig per second, not bad. Can burn through my plan in a couple of minutes

  • +3

Just signed up at JB Hifi Taren Point. Can confirm it is the $69 plan with $10 credit for 12 months, making it $59. Also walked away with $400 card, well actually some Eufy 2c cameras instead :)

I then spent the last 45mins on chat to Telstra changing my old number to the new plan so I now have a new 12 month plan on an existing Telstra number (expired plan, was month to month) for $59 a month plus some Eufy 2c cameras that I was about to drop $400 on anyway!

Ties me over until the iPhone 13 next year. Chuffed!

  • Does anyone feel that Telstra's signal is terrible while you are at home or in the shopping centre? Most of the time I receive 3G signal while in the shopping centre in Victoria.

  • i'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but if i'm on a month to month on telstra… can i sign up for this deal and get the gift card?

    • +1

You can sign up and with a new number and get a gift card if you intend to keep both your existing and new plans and numbers. Otherwise there are people who have the same situation and sign up with a new number and put them under the same account as the existing number then call Telstra support to cancel the new number and keep the existing number meaning you kind of port the existing number to this new plan. Beware doing so if your existing month to month plan still has minimum unexpired contracted period you may need to pay early termination fee.

      • Our family has 3 out-of-contract Telstra mobiles, of which we want to retain the numbers. So I can basically walk in to JB Hifi, connect 3 new accounts, and change the numbers from the existing accounts to the 3 new accounts.

I did this 2 years ago, just wanting to confirm this still works.

        • This is what people said here. You will need to call Telstra to confirm this if you don’t want to take their words for it.

  • Can i use this plan for running all of my home devices and i can get rid of my NBN plan

    • If your devices are all WiFi, then perhaps you can get by with just hot spotting off the mobile.

Otherwise you might want a mobile router device that has Ethernet ports for connecting to your home network.

      • Main issue i am thinking is that using phone as router would chew up the mobile battery and i have to keep the mobile on permanent recharge and this will destroy the mobile battery. Other issue is the hotspot generally switches off automatically after an hour or so.

  • This is a JB HI FI Telstra plan not an actual telstra plan .Its term and conditions are different to telstra but with a telstra full network.
YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ADD INTERNATIONAL CALLING PACK TO THIS PLAN
The international calling is PAYG which is quite expensive
