  • 10 filters, that'll do me for 10 years.

    • +3

1 filter for one month tho? Am I wrong?

      • +1

Yes, Brita doubled the plastic waste by reducing their filter replacement cycle to just 4 weeks

        • probably doubled their profit margins too

  • 1 filter should be 2-3months.

I push mine out until 5 months because I'm lazy and low on filters

    • That sound sound healthy

      • +1

        very sound sound

    • they're rated for 1 month.

You can taste the difference every time you swap the filter out after a month. Which means there's little if any filtering going on at 2 months.

      • most filters are rated for volume not time

        • well no shit. If you don't drink at all, the filter will last forever. But unless you drink 1 cup a day, the average user will go through the filter in a month. The one month figure accounts for actual volume and makes the assumption that you will actually pour water into it.

          • @lostn: lol and if you have 4 glasses of water a day it lasts a week?

            • @[Deactivated]: the one month figure is based on about 6-8 glasses a day.

1 glass a day would last more than a month.

  • Cheers

  • KMART VS BRITA?

Would like to know from someone that has used the kmart filters and can compare to the britas?

    link to kmart filter here

    I highly recommend these ones.

I bought 10 pack for $94(was $104 used ebay voucher) couple of weeks ago.
$83.20 looks good. This filter is so good compared to the traditional one from Brita. Have been using the traditional from Brita for about 2 years but the difference in taste between the filters is so amazing. If you want to try before you make your mind buy a single pack first but highly recommended.

    • +3

You done a double blind test? Brita recommends that for medium to hard water areas and Sydney and it's surrounds have soft water.

      • +2

Well I agree with what you are inferring with blind test. I have noticed the difference straightaway with the first glass of water. Also my wife dint know that i changed the filter and was asking why does the water feel so different(better). If that qualifies for a blind test

    • +1

Just got the limescale pack for $83.20 as well. I agree that this is the better option.

  • Looks like double application of 20% discount.

    How?

  • Legit question- what exactly are we trying to filter out with this again? Sydney water, from my understanding, is perfectly drinkable.

    • Depends on where you live. We moved house to a new one in an area with, at least in theory, had very clean water. However, drinking tap made me throw up. No idea why. We had the water tested by some state department but they said was fine. Bought a filter, not this kind, and fixed the problem. I used to see no point in filter tap water in Australia but not after that experience. Filtered my tap water ever since.

    • +1

For me it’s the taste. I know tap water here is drinkable but I can taste something in it that I don’t like. The filter removes that taste.

    • +1

There's a chlorine taste for us. Filter definitely helps get rid of that.

      • Yep. Depending where you live, you can taste the chlorine. To me, if I don't filter the water then it means I need to buy bottled water as I refuse to drink that pool water that come about of my tap!

    • +2

      TIL everyone lives in Sydney

  • I recently wiped the inside of my jug after a quick rinse and there was a dark black soot like colour on the paper towel. Is this part of the stuff inside the filter? Safe?

    • +1

The filter should be made of carbon

    • +1

It's coal. Nothing to be afraid of.

      • Thanks for the replys :)

    It will also work better

The microbiological quality of filtered water in a commercial water filter system (Brita) was tested in households and in two laboratories. In 24 of 34 filters used in households, bacterial counts increased in the filtered water up to 6,000 cfu/ml. In 4 of 6 filters tested in the laboratory, bacterial counts in the fresh filtrate were higher than in tap water after approximately one week of use both at room temperature and at 4 degrees C, suggesting growth or biofilm formation in the filter material. In some cases colony counts in the filtered water were 10,000 times those in tap water. The filter material of 5 of 13 new commercial filters was contaminated with bacteria or moulds.
