[NSW] 3-Star Minced Meat 500g $2 @ Coles, Chastwood Chase

90

Coles 3-Star minced meat in 500 gram packs for $2 (two dollars). Spotted in Coles Chatswood Chase store late on Christmas Eve (I estimate more than 100 units), checked again this afternoon and found they still have plenty of stock (at least 50 units, maybe more). Stock on Christmas Eve was dated 26th, 27th and 28th December. Today it mostly seems to be 28th December (they prolly discarded the shorter dated stuff?).

In two locations in the store: on an end in the meat department near the deli' and veggie departments, and in the usual location for minced meat in this store at the milk/bread side of the meat department.

I think this is probably a markdown of an overstock of short-dated product in one store. This isn't a Coles special per se. I don't expect to find it in other stores.

  • Wtf are Asian girlfriends doing with chicken wing tips?

I can only think of making stock without googling

    • bingo, wings are the best cut of chicken to use for stock because it contains a ton of collagen giving the stock a richer taste.

a lot of chicken-based ramen stocks are based on shit tons of wings.

      • the more you know…

I was just going to suggest lots of boyfriends out there that want to give them "just the tip"

  • You forgot mentioning your family.

  • they prolly discarded the shorter dated stuff?

Or perhaps discounted it more aggressively.

I was at a Coles in VIC earlier and they had discounted up to 95% off a variety of meat products and a couple of vegetable items.

  • +1

You can expect to find these discounts on a lot of meats on Boxing day due to the DC's being closed on Christmas day. Same applies to day after Good Friday as they're the only 2 days the DC's shut down.

When the DC's shut down, they over allocate stock to stores in the lead up to ensure they don't run out for boxing day trading. However as non-vacuum sealed meats generally only have 4-5 days life, it leads to massive mark downs to clear it, especially on the main lines (mince, rump, chickens, etc).

Same principle applies to Woolworths as I worked for both companies in their Logistics and Supply Chain.

  • Special = code for clearance.
