The SSD worths $68 and is a decent one.

There's high chance you won't get the ssd as they'll run oos

    • +11

Don’t trust Gigabyte, previously bought the 2070 super and tried to claim the bonus SSD one month before the promotion expires but they didn’t honor it and said out of stock. Then later run the same promo for 5700 xt. No more gigabyte for me !

      • +1

This free ssd is not provided by gigabyte.

      • +3

I had to deal with gigabyte for an RMA after a dead gpu. Worst company I've ever had to deal with. Took 3 months and they sent me a DOA card. Had to go complain to consumer affairs.

        Will never buy gigabyte again.

        • +2

Hahaha, exactly my experience of a different product

        • Which retailer forced you to RMA the hardware yourself? It should be up to the retailer to chase up the RMA and either replace / repair / refund.

          • @skegger: This WAS through the retailer. They are also at the mercy of gigabyte at the end of the day.

      • +3

Similar experience from Gigabyte here. Not an SSD but they refused to honour it either. Plus their post sale service is worse.

    • +1

SE includes the SSD, it's automatically added when you add the card to cart.

  • +2

I just placed my order and both items are in stock for now.

BTW you need to make sure the seagate ssd shows in your cart and a -$68 discount is there. If this is not there, then you probably won’t get the ssd.

The free ssd is not described in the link in the main post but is visible here:
    https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/Boxing-Day-Sale-2020-Retu…

    • If the SSD is supplied by shopping express then that’s ok. But there is risk if you try to claim it from Gigabyte

      • I just had a try,once click the 3060, it automatically add a free Seagate BarraCuda 510 250GB 3100MB/s PCIe Gen 3 NVMe M.2 (2280) SSD in the cart.So look good

  • +5

Think people are confused by the SSD, it's included as instant free gift from SE, not a mail in from Gigabyte

  • +16

Remember when the 3070 was supposed to be $809?

    • was about to say this is actually overpriced

    • lel, i remember when i posted that

I personally don’t care about anything other than performance scores and warranty.
3060ti is what it is, all the variants probably have 1-2% performance difference. Probably means no difference at all in real life use.

I am currently running a notoriously noisy gigabyte single fan cheap 1650 super, and let me tell you the FPS I get is no different than any other twin fan or more expensive 1650 super reviewed online, it runs noisy but keeps performance sustainable.
And 3 years warranty gives your next buyer piece of mind.

I personally won’t pay $100 more for a triple fan or a bigger heat sink, if gigabyte thinks it’s going to perform like a 3060ti for three years, it’s good enough for me.

      • +1

I personally won’t pay $100 more for a triple fan or a bigger heat sink

I understand this logic, except the problem is there's been dual fan 3070 models sell for $19 more. Currently there's multiple models in stock for $80-$130 less.

You are paying a ~$200 mark up on this card, which just happens to be a low tier model. If this was around a fair price of ~$600 (at least one Amazon card has sold for $631) then it's a no brainer, but it's not worth anything close to $800.

From this post I honestly thought you were a store rep. I don't understand why you're simping so hard for them.

        • +1

I'm not associated with them in any way. I found it, thought it's good, then placed an order, wanted to share with you guys, that's it.

"Currently there's multiple models in stock for $80-$130 less." Not really. I looked hard. If there is, please enlighten me.

SE hasn't shipped my order yet so I still have the time to cancel it.

Here's two from the front page of Oz bargain, granted one is a little outside that price range, but is a triple fan.

@iseeyou1312: So where is a 3060Ti for 80~130 less? Keen to know. Thanks

              • @High: Ah sorry, I mean to say there's been 3070 models selling for $80-130 more. Technically the cheapest I've seen went for $819 but I haven't seen any Amazon prices.

There's been 3060 Ti models sell for $170 less, but currently OOS. This card does seem to be the cheapest in stock 3060 Ti, but it's hardly a "deal".

            • +1

@iseeyou1312: Are we talking about $80-130 less or $80-130 more?
Above 2 looks like $80-130 more to me.
Yup, 10% more performance and 10% more expensive makes them about the same deal as this one.
And please factor in if you sell the SSD, at least you can get another $50-60 back.

              • @simonjo:

Price/perf curve is exponential. By that logic get yourself a $200 1650 super because nothing is going to compete with that.

Also, the Zotac 3070 does have a metal backplate but shit fans like Gigabyte. The EVGA triple fan 3070 has good fans (hydro bearing) and a metal backplate.

And please factor in if you sell the SSD, at least you can get another $50-60 back.

True, although to me a 250 GB would be more of a hassle than a benefit. I suppose I could use it as a boot drive for a hand-me-down system.

I guess if you're happy with it and can't wait then that's the main thing. But I really think in 2-3 months from now you're going to be regretting this purchase.

                • +1

@iseeyou1312: Lol you read me so well! I am currently running a 1650 super.

I guess in 2-3 months price would be dropping 100-200 for this card for sure.

I do plan to use this card to do some mining when electricity is cheap. I might even keep the 1650 super and use both cards to do mining.
With bitcoin at this price, 100 days might have already made me that 100-200 back.

                  • +1

@simonjo: Have you considered electricity cost for running your whole computer/fans/etc? Plus noise plus heat plus electromagnetic waves - potential degradation in quality of life. Also wear and tear on your whole machine.
Also you're assuming coin price will stay the same which means you're taking a risk.

A $400 USD GPU would equal 400/0.76*1.1 = $579 AUD. How exactly is it "on sale" for $799? What an absolute piss take. Wow retailers are ridding off into the sunset on the backs of total morons.

Card itself is a decent version, wind force twin fan

Wind force are literally the worst GPU fans on the market. Sleeve bearing and atrocious quality. Also, there's only two of them on a 200 watt card. I'm sure that'll be nice, quiet and "decent"

backplate and RGB lighting both check.

The "protection backplate" is plastic. All it does is trap heat. The card would work better without a backplate.

The SSD worths $68 and is a decent one.

Self praise is no recommendation. How about stating the model, warranty period, whether it is TLC or has a DRAM cache?

Is decent. TLC, DRAM cahce, 5 year warranty. Still not remotely worth anything close to $79.

    • +2

Agreed, even at full retail price the shops are already making a good profit, at $200 over and above that's just silly. If everyone refrains from buying they'll be the one getting desperate. In a couple of months time people will be sorry paying for this.

    • +3

All that effort and you didn't even mention about the Tax on top….

      It's never a straight conversion.

And do you think Americans are readily buying at RRP too?

      • +2

        Iseeyou did include tax (*1.1)

It is sometimes a straight conversion, when there isn't profiteering involved.

Private sellers on eBay try charge what they like everywhere, but in the US people pay RRP at the store.

I don't know if it's the 'official Australian distributior' or the retailer, but it's quite clear these prices are too high. We had to put up with Gerry Harvey's GST on imports even though this is why retail is dying.
People are right to be upset.

        • My bad.

I know for a fact Americans aren't always paying RRP either

There is plenty of scalping from retailers going on there too.

And they have even bigger stock problems. Can think of countless products they've been unable to buy yet we can easier.

      • I included GST

        400/0.76*1.1

There may or may not be a 5% import duty, but I really don't understand the tax laws well enough to say in what situations it applies. I think the cards under $1k are exempt though.

And do you think Americans are readily buying at RRP too?

They're paying within $20 for the dual fan models. Even the dual fan ASUS Tuf was selling on Amazon for Aussies for $631, Aussie retailers are just completely predatory.

This price isn't slightly above RRP, it's a 38% mark up. It's so bad it's within $100 of in stock 3070s, which themselves are already heavily marked up, but not as ridiculously as this card is.

  • +4

Pretty terrible price when the 3070 have been low $800 but each to there own, I'll keep holding out until stock improves jumping on these deals is crazy atm..

    • +2

Agreed. I just sold my 2060 for $420 a little too pre-emptively and got the itch to buy anything. I'm going to force myself to wait for a good one or pre order that triple fan EVGA for 769.

      • I also agree. But considering this card can do mining for roughly 7 USD per day, getting it early at a half crazy price, might make the price not too bad in a month or so.

        • How do I do that? Sounds intriguing.

        • No idea where you got that figure but not even close. Even a 3090 can't make US$7 a day.

          • @High: Nah my bad, it was what my mate told me. It was 7 AUD and it took account of his CPU as well.
I just looked up myself. 3060Ti makes about 4 AUD per day. Accounting for electricity price about 3 AUD per day.

I wish I could just block off all the overpriced graphics card deals but since this website doesn't allow that, I'm forced to neg every one that pops up.

  • +2

a bargain because 'its in stock'….. should be added to your neg list but then you'd run out within a hour….
