I still don’t see many RTX3080 deals around. Is it because stock levels are still an issue?

    • +12

stock worldwide is severely limited for the 3080s.

      • -3

It's slow globally, but in AU it's glacial. Retailers and suppliers here royally screwed up.

        • +5

Man, this is such a baseless statement. As someone who works in the industry I can tell you that the retailer's and suppliers had nothing to do with the stock received.

Everything was vendor allocated mate, no stock is no stock, nothing the suppliers or the retailers can do about it.

          • @blueskittles: And I'm looking at the numbers, which have us in pricing and stock levels like it's the Eastern Bloc.

Best AUD deals right now are sniping US stock from Newegg and Amazon, because you're stuck with a 20-30% premium otherwise.

The only time you see that in the US is when a retailer has had to buy stock from another retailer to meet demand.

    • +8

Stock will be an issue for months.

I've been waiting over 3 months for my 3080 EVGA card. It's barely moved in the queue.

      • -7

Damn man… I just walked into a store and picked up both a 3080 and a 5900x for my new build three weeks ago.

        • that's nice as, if you don't mind, how much did you pay for the 3080 and which model was it?

          • +2

            @yikes914: 1400 for an INNO X3 iChill 3080
            899 for the 5900x

By saying walking into a store and buying it I was downplaying it abit… spent 2 weeks and 5 hours a day calling up every store in NSW repeatedly until I got my hands on them x)

Following that was a 4 hour drive to and from the store in question to pick them up.

        • -1

          Which store? Im in need!

        • +19

this happens often, the issue is, the walk ins are always like 1700 bucks, and I'm here for OZbargains not OZ-In-Stock

          • -1

@dbmitch: Yeah I am waiting for my PLE 3080 order. My local shops have them in stock but are asking $300-$500 more than what I ordered

            • +2

              @GerrardLFC: Been waiting since September.
PLE said stock maybe in late Feb. I just cancelled it since 3080ti will be a thing by then

              • +1

@BuIIy: Yeah but how much will that cost? My order cost me $1199. People saying prices for 3080ti will be around $2000+

              • @BuIIy: Yeah, and there will also be more SKU's by then.
AIB Partners can't keep up with demand, yet are coming out with new SKU's.

I worry that they will start allocating resources for the newer SKU's leaving those that have had long pre-orders no alternative but to wait longer in the queue in the hopes that the order will eventually be honoured or forced to cancel and buy a different SKU a higher price.

              • @BuIIy: can agree on the feb timeline for a 3080 thats what I got told at PLE, i think it is honestly just worth it to wait. AMD could come out with a clanger of a RX 6700xt or similar for a great price and in stock forcing competition.

          • @dbmitch: To be fair, whenever we see RTX 30xx here we all know it's not a bargain

    • Why would you sell the same thing for $100 when people will buy it over $1000?
That's Nvidia, why bother trying to sell the 3080 for $1500 when people will snatch the 3090 at $3000??

    • +2

Join discord and there are servers that ping you whenever a certain card is in stock. I got a 3080 ftw3 ordered mid December, arrived a week later

  • +77

lol i accidentally purchased this.. was actually curious to see how Zippay worked and it took me to the page "Your order was successfully created"

    No turning back now

    • +23

      It was destiny.

    • +4

I take it your partner reads your ozbargain posts? :P

Yeah it happened to me too 😀

      • +11

Haha no but i told her that I've accomplished something on Ozbargain today… and that is I've gained 10+ upvotes on my comment lol

        • +4

You got my upvote too mate. Made me smile :)

        • +2

          34 and counting

    • +1

Card was dispatched yesterday from Heatherton and I have received the card this morning.

I can't wait to use it!

  • Yes, you will not see deals here until Feb at least.

  • +2

There are a number of 3080 brands scheduled for end of January and late February. Whether there will be enough to meet the backorders and those waiting is not known.

    • +2

The 20GB 3080 Ti is also meant to be coming out in February. I wonder if that's why stock levels for the 3080s are low?

I also think people looking for more "budget" cards like the 3060 Ti and 3070 are less willing to be price gouged, hence demand is lower for them at inflated prices.

      • +2

I think most people,me included, can't make up their mind with the 3070. It can't do 4K well and even struggles at 1440 in some titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator. But then it's overkill for 1080p. I want 4K so determined to get a 3080 but it also struggles at that resolution with some titles so maybe 3080ti will be the perfect card for this generation.

        • +4

I think the 3080 Ti is going to be a lot like the 3090 with marginally less VRAM. Will also probably be priced at around $1k USD but also on the 8nm process, thus unlikely to be worth getting.

A decent 4K card will probably be within the Lovelace series release towards the end of 2021 (rumoured September) and also on a 5nm process (unsure if TSMC or Samsung). With that in mind Ampere doesn't really seem "future proof" at this point, it's just overhyped because it's compared to the absolutely terrible price/perf of the 2080 Ti. Early adopters of Nvidia cards usually get heavily punished, like those who bought non-super Turing cards.

The real question is, how long can you wait? ;)

          • -1

@iseeyou1312: I agree regarding the 2080 and 3080 hype and both being overpriced. I think there's going to be many more XSX and PS5s sold for gaming. I'd rather use those for gaming for the next 12months and get the next generation if it's worth the wait.

          • +2

            @iseeyou1312:

The real question is, how long can you wait? ;)

            ^^ This
you can keep waiting for ever as there will always be something better on the horizon or buy it now and enjoy it.

          • +2

@iseeyou1312: Is there Really gonna be a new gpu architecture within a year?

I can't see that happening unless rdna3 is definitely coming 2021

            • @badonde: While that is possible, the better question is can we buy any product with a new gpu architecture within a year? Paper launch has been too successful this time around, so I expect they'll repeat it

            • @badonde: AMD have been releasing a new schedule every year, NVIDIA are going to need to speed up to stay competitive, given that AMD have overtaken their rasterisation performance at 1080/1440p and similar price/perf at 2160p. If AMD weren't releasing consoles and new CPUs at the same time, they would be absolutely killing Nvidia right now.

Plus it seems NVIDIA has been very unhappy with the Samsung process and are likely to move back to TSMC. I thought the super/Ti models were going to be on the 7nm TSMC process, but it seems like they'll just be 8nm Samsung with more VRAM and the Lovelace cards will likely be TSMC and out later this year.

  • +4

    i'll keep waiting….

  • i'm still on a 'crappy' 1080p 60hz monitor (u2414h).. looks like getting a 30xx would be an overkill… or would it?

    • +1

I don't see the need of upgrading if you're using a crappy monitor.

    • +3

Mate a 1080 would be enough for FHD. Funny thing is the 3070 is about 25% faster than a 1080ti which you can buy for half the price. I can't make sense of the 3060ti and 3070 when you can buy cheaper cards for similar performance. Especially since neither is good for 4K.

      • +4

Where can I buy a brand new 1080 TI for $450?

        • -5

It would have to be second hand obviously. But you can get a 5700X for that price brand new which is equivalent to the 1080ti.

          • @[Deactivated]: I'm assuming you meant 5700xt, its not 450 unfortunately.

However the 5600xt is around $450 new.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yeah you are right mate. A number of retailers had 5700XT for around $500 just recently.

              • @[Deactivated]: Yep, 5700xt for $500 is a solid gpu. I still don't get why people want to pay ~500-550 for a used 1080ti (checked previously sold listing's on ebay), when it's 3 years old, and likely no warranty.

                • @[Deactivated]: The 1080ti has the nvidia cuda cores which help with certain tasks and some games are optimised to favour NVIDIA. Also they have better drivers so people may favour it for those reasons. But you are right about a lack of warranty. Some people take the risk.

                  • +1

@[Deactivated]: I was actually going to get the 1080ti, for 550. then I thought id wait for the 3070. and then the 3080 launched first, saw one at PLE for 1139 and felt this is it.

and later when I saw the performance numbers between 1080ti and 3080, I was amazed. so kinda glad i skipped that 1080ti.

                    • @[Deactivated]: Well you got a bargain in the current climate. People selling online want $1700+. In the situation most will gladly take something cheaper. It's a shame. Everyone around the world have had a tough time this year and for some a shiny new toy can mean so much but not to be.

              • @[Deactivated]: Not anymore! Closer to 600 if you are lucky. Typically more.

    • +1

Depends on what card you are on, but yeah, most AAA games would max out at 60fps at ultra settings, assuming the rest of your system is decent.

  • +1

As TSMC is in the middle of relocating their factories out of China, the chip production has been greatly affected. Hopefully with the new chip manufacturer (Samsung), NVIDIA will solve the stock issue by Q3 2021

    • But RTX3 series has always been manufactured by Samsung from the beginning?

      • Not from the beginning. When they announce the new 3000 series wasn't when they started the new production line

    • NVIDIA is utilising Samsung 7nm process

      • Nope, its 8nm

      • +1

Samsung 8nm process. AMD use TSMC 7nm process which is better but not much.

        • +1

yeah i meant to type 8nm but NVIDIA is reportedly moving to 7nm next yr with Samsung

        • Keep in mind that although TSMC's 7nm process is more mature, the production line is saturated. On the 7nm process they make Apple SoCs, Qualcomm SoCs, AMD CPUs, AMD GPUs, AMD APUs for mainstream P C products, the custom AMD APUs for the two different Xbox series consoles and the custom APU for the PS5. Unfortunately for us, high volume products from Apple and Qualcomm take priority over the enthusiast products we are after.

    • TSMC never have any cutting edge factory out of Taiwan. every single GPU die till now was diffused in Taiwan
More likely is because crypto miners intercept from distributors

  • +9

Maybe a bit off topic: Is it just me or is this the worst time to build PCs in the last 15 years? I remember a few issues with ram and HDD supplies some years, but everything is crazy now. It seems just super crap compared to a few years ago to put together a solid value system.

    • +4

Yeah that flash memory shortage was bad (Ram prices either doubled or tripled on the high end stuff?) but this situation is just rubbish. New graphics cards starting at $750+ for 'mid range' parts is diabolical.

      • +3

This has been going for a number of years. Companies like Apple showed people will give their kidney (literally in a number of cases in China and India) for a hyped product. So others have followed and the pandemic has created the perfect platform to have lots of good excuses.

    • +6

RAM and memory are cheap at the moment.
      Cases are about the same.
PSU are more pricey in some cases.

Cpu and gpu are expensive because of a larger generational leap and low stock.

      • Cases are about the same.
PSU are more pricey in some cases.

        heh!

    • really depends on how you word "value" ….

      i would just avoid 3000 series………

    • I was about to jump on the 3080 hype but then realised when I built my PC 2 years ago, I spent less than $700 on a mid-range GPU 1070. The fact that if I'm even just getting a 3070, it'd still be more expensive than all of my other components combined, when new.

    • Wish I could shamelessly make incorrect statements.

    • -1

I'm talking about the recent deals I've seen on here, such as the Galax 3060TI which was going for $719 if I remember correctly. Then I forget which brand it was, probs Inno3D, that had one going for $689 I believe? Somewhere around that.

      • -1

But those are low-end dual-fan cards… and are still overpriced.

Would spend the extra for this 3070 any day over those shit-tier cards.

        • 1k for 3070..lol, ppl must be desperate or just dumb

          • +1

            @botchie: remember 550ish$ for a xx70 card? good time.

now ppl willing to pay 1k for a xx70. KEKW

  • I feel like I would have gotten that if the bonus wasn't a game…

  • +3

Jumped on it, I was looking for a 3060 ti of this model but decided to splurge. Thanks for sharing and good luck everyone else 🤙

  • +8

PLE has been good at not jacking up RRP prices even when they have stock.

I've pre ordered evga 3060ti coming next week, 5600x and order other components from them.

    • Only the evga cards, everything else is jacked https://www.ple.com.au/Categories/1152/Graphics-Cards/Nvidia…

      • +3

The zotac 3080 originally was $1,139 when I bought it on launch but I think a bit after it was raised to 1379.

        • Yeah I got my zotac 3080 from them at 1139. Really happy with ple.

    • +1

Sorry I can't agree, everything has been price jacked since launch (EVGA included, yet still the cheapest).

    • +1

Have you seen the prices for the 6800xt? AMD launch RRP was 1049 at PCCG for some of the oem models, the AIB cards are 1499-1599 at PLE for a little more performance under best case scenarios.

Yes there is a performance difference between AMD factory cards and AIB cards but it's not enough to justify a 50% mark up. Hard to tell how much of that is from the AIBs and how much is from PLE.

  • +5

this card is worth more than my computer 😰

  • -2

    yet another ' in-stock' deal

  • Ordered. Thanks op and thanks ozB

  • bit the bullet and bought, cant be bothered waiting anymore lol (btw, anyone know if this will fit in a Fractal Design Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case)?

    • +1

Yep will fit. Will be tight if you have a radiator mounted on the front however

    • +1

I have the same case and just ordered this too… Great minds eh ;)

  • Out of stock now, just called them and swapped my 3080 XC3 Black to this one. More stock coming in at 4pm tomorrow, will get a text when it comes in ready for pickup.

    • which store is out of stock?

      • I called Bentley, WA

        • +1

          thanks mate

    • Update: received text today at 2pm WA time, picked up at 4pm and they also kept the free GPU stand from my original preorder in.
