Need to buy a school bag for year 7 boy. Would it be a good option?

    • +6

I picture it being too big for a 7 year old.

      edit: Nevermind, reread your comment.

    • I have the same question.

    • +4

This is a laptop bag and and so a child may struggle with getting books in due to narrow design and books catching on inner pockets. As a backpack they are a comfortable bag but most school bags are a lot bigger which allows them to stuff in jumpers/jackets easily.

    • I have this bag, albeit I purchased at $150, but I'd say it would be too big for an average year 7 boy. This would be dependant on his height and weight.

I'm 5"10 and think it's a little too big for me as well.

Also same price available at Myer, https://www.myer.com.au/p/leviathan-laptop-backpack-173inche…

    Looks like Amazon pricematching Myer?

    Edit: AussieGargain beat to me.

Good bag. It's my everyday work bag and is really good when transiting on long international trips (well, WAS good for that).

The laptop sleeve is adjustable, main compartment is quite big…..plenty of little pockets for stuff in the front.

    It is quite big.

The Myer eBay store has it, and can also use the $5 vouchers.

    • Thanks, ordered in case they find some stock while they're OOS :-)

  • The city vibe 2 backpack also looks good.

  • Ordered from myer, thanks!

  • The zippers on the main compartments of these bags are poor quality. Plus the design of the bag puts a lot of stress on the zipper where it curves from the side to the top of the compartment. You need to be very careful closing the zipper when the bag is loaded.

I've had 2 of these bags replaced because of failed zippers within 3 months of purchase. Samsonite were good on the replacements though - the bricks and mortar shop I bought from had replacement bags for me within a week both times.

On the 3rd bag now and I baby the zippers on opening and closing. I won't be bothered replacing it again, I'll just get a different brand with decent zippers.

Anyone know of any quality laptop backpack brands that use good YKK zippers? Crumpler have also stopped using YKK and moved to their own generic zippers too. Crumpler used to be the goto brand for quality but that changed a few years ago.

I have everki. Nearly 5 years without issues. I had the same problems with zippers with other brands and felt cheated for the price I paid. Everki is top notch and I will recommend

I also had the everki flight laptop bag.
Cant get over the butt uglyness. Looks very similar to this samsonite bag

        • +2

Yep it's ugly for sure. In this category, as long as my laptop and accessories are safe, the bag can look like a horse with make-up I won't care 😂

@Raj09: Thanks for the recommendation Raj09 & arena.

Their Atlas backpack looks like it would do the job nicely and looks ok.

            • @airtime: Happy to help my friend 😊🙏🏾

Another Everki fan, my Titan 17.3' bag is still going strong after 5 years of travel.

I agree Everki don't make good looking backpacks but interior storage and compartments is 2nd to none.

    • Really? I've used one of these daily for over 2 years, I treat it rough, It's always full, get's tossed in the boot with laptop, ipad, folio, paper, cables, chargers, some tools, eneloops, nivea deodorant, protein powder, bottle of voss refilled with tap water…. All the zippers are still fine, straps are fine & it still looks new. I'd say this is one of the toughest bags I've owned. WTF are you doing with the zippers to bust them?

      • Nothing excessing. I carry a 14" work laptop, chargers, cabling, etc. Maybe ~8Kg at the most. The backpack isn't overloaded. The zipper on the large front compartment as twice torn from its cloth attachment tape that is stitched onto the bag skin. This has occurred both times on the top left arc (looking from front of bag) as the zipper curves from the vertical to horizontal.

  • Thanks OP mine got deliverd.

  • The deal says ‘out of stock’ but Amazon appears to have stock, although the price is $107, not $71.60 as listed. Am I missing something?

    • It was only that price because Amazon was matching Myer, and Myer is out of stock I guess.
