Great bit of software. I got it last time it was free from them and still use it (helped diagnose a failing hard drive that was throwing up the occasional issue). I just built a new PC and was still able to reinstall the software on the new PC even after the time to register had expired by keeping the zip file.

Another vote, I have the family version loaded here, is useful for monitoring disk health.

"If you lose your installer or have to re-install after the two week period, you won't be able to" - if you need to install after the promo period, you just change the date for your PC to within the promotion period (e.g. today's date) and it will install. I've successfully done this with installers from previous freebies.

Worked fine for me just now :)

  •

I had trouble downloading the link using Chrome, but it worked fine on Firefox. Don't spam click the link, otherwise it won't work anymore.

Great piece of software, I was using the free pro copy from the previous giveaway, so it's nice to get the updated one. Really useful to keep on top of drives that are starting to fail.

    •

This is standard and not Pro. I agree, it is a great piece of software. I use it for Auditing all the spare HDD's that I have (current and spares) and keep a copy of report via Report -> Save authenticated disk report. I also like that it can email if it detects HDD issues (for PC's I have running unattended).

    •

I "purchased" it for $0 but can't find the bloody download link :(

are these a good idea to install on work/school/uni laptops with SSDs? We have a mix of new/old laptops at home.

    •

It will monitor SSD's , typically by looking at the write cycle wear. It also identifies if TRIM is enabled or not.

    •

It would work for general HDD info, Age, Data written etc,but not so sure it would give much warning about pending failures on SSD's. I suspect they just die on the spot?

    •

Of course they would work, but licensing maybe an issue. You'll have to look up their EULA to see if you can use it for a school/uni.

    •

Unlike HDDs, SSDs have no moving parts: platters and heads. They die pretty much like light globes. Monitoring them won’t really going to predict anything.

edit: turn off VPN and try again, should work, failed on Chrome but used Edge and it worked

That website has way too much going on for it to feel safe lol

    •

Hahaha I thought the same - Great way to install a trojan with a HDD monitoring tool :p

pretty sure the download links are unique for each request for the software - that's why people are reporting "too many downloads" when they click the link they've received too many times. So long as you got it, that's the main thing.

  •

I didn't read the comment about chrome. I think I clicked the link too many times. When I try edge, it no longer work as well.

    •

prob have to re-register to get a new download link - i couldnt get it working on Chrome first time around, resulted in "too many downloads. Re-reg'd and Edge worked first time

      •

        so register with new email?

i'd suggest to use https://10minutemail.com/ for a temp address, then just use the download link received. I dont believe that there is any long term requirement to be contactable via a specific email addres .. the temp email will give you the link needed to get the install file, once you've got it, you can let the 10minutemail address time out.

@swampson: OMG, this is very nice. Never knew it existed. Thank you swampson. BTW, edge downloads it straight away.

Doesn't seem to be a unique code, and doesn't let me purchase again!

  •

What will happen if I update to 5.61?

    •

You pay (upgrade price). That's the whole point of the "giveaway" excercise i.e. in the hope that some people will upgrade (although not required).

This is great. I've used the paid version for Windows server 2019 and the free version for Debian. I rate it!

Something to do with your fb privacy settings I reckon. Just use the 10 minute email link from up top to get past it.

      •

THANKS The 10 minute email worked…. needed the extra 10 minutes as they send 2 emails

    Full of viruses and Trojans

    •

      Care to explain………..
and if worried about that then just grab vr5.5 from vendors original site rather than downloading from link. Simple. No reason the serial won't work.

Does anyone think it's worth paying for the Pro version?

  • +1 vote

Thanks op, got it. I thought the deal expired but the email said it is still available. I would like to suggest OP to put one extra instruction in your title. Do not use chrome to download as it does not work. I think quite a few fall for the trap.

If using chrome then right click and click on save link as…
