Nintendo Switch NES Controllers (2-Pack) $55.95 (RRP $79.95) + $7.95 Delivery (Free for Orders $80+) @ MyNintendoStore -NSO Rqd.

590

Nintendo has now launched the MyNintendoStore in Australia! They have a good price on the Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers for the Switch. $55.95 down from $79.95. Made with the intent to be used with the NES Online collection, but can be used for any game, and clip onto the side of the console.

You do need a Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) membership to purchase these items. There is a 7 day trial for this, or it costs $29.95 a year for an individual, or $59.95 a year for a family of up to 8 people (no you don't need to live in the same households, yes you can just find 7 friends/family members and not tell Nintendo, no you shouldn't risk this with strangers as they can rip you off).

You can see the full suite of items available at: https://store.nintendo.com.au/au/

Also, check out the physical rewards you can now claim with platinum points

Note: I posted these as separate deals as one costs money, the other costs Platinum Coins, it didn't seem right to combine them together, and if nothing else would have made for a gross, uninformative title.

  • Whoa there are even physical merch you can grab with Platinum points. How did I not know about this! Now do I hoard points for a cool large physical gift or just spend them on small ones.

Yeah, posted that a few minutes ago as well :) It only launched today. It's pretty cool! The items aren't my cup of tea, but good to have physical rewards back again.

      • +1

Yeah I'm not sure whether i shoot just get rid of all of my points or hoard for a big one like they used to do in the good ol days of Club Nintendo.

        • Note: Nintendo Platinum Points expires after six months.

  • Do these have L/R buttons for eg MK?

    • Yes they do, although they are tiny and awkward like the joycons so would not be great to use.

Edit: I'm not even sure if they can be used outside the NES app though.

Not a bad deal, thank you! I wonder if they are discontinuing them. I'm sure they are much less popular than the SNES controllers, which are sadly not discounted…

For that authentic dig hard, sharp, corner plastic into your hands, hand cramp pains from the late 80s/early 90s feel.

Developing calluses with the NES controller helped me harden up for falls from rollerblading back in the day.

      • this comment is so 80/90 kids… i approve!

    • OMG yes, made those marathon sessions on the NES a killer especially when there was no save state for games like SMB3.

Since then the only comparable experience is getting calluses from lifting weights at the gym :)

    Cart: $79.90
    Free Shipping threshold: $80.00
    Me: whyyyyyyyyyyyy?!?!

    • Yeah this is why I haven't ordered any SNES controllers.

    • Intentional to get you to add more crap to the cart!

Guess the initial demand for the NES Joycons has faded… honestly didn't get much use or enjoyment out of them and in hindsight should've just bought the 8BitDo versions.

  • Plus 1 for the website.

    Never heard of it yet.

Also shocked to see these discounted.

  • +1

Will they work with Raspberry Pi?

    • you are better off getting the 8bitdo ones

  • I kind of want to get this just as a collectible. Damn it nostalgia.

  • +1

I got 4 of the SNES ones last year. Opened two never used any. Probably have to ask the missus to ebay them. Sadness

  • how can I double vote this up?

thanks so much OP - I feel like I've fallen into another dimension where nintendo Australia have both updated their website AND are offering physical rewards for platinum

truly mind boggling, honestly never expected to see this

    • +1

Haha, I'm glad it's helpful for you! I picked up a pair myself, and feel much the same way. Really glad to see Nintendo Australia catching up :) Surely next up we'll have a better online service, right? :P

      • Just the thought of not having to look completely wistfully at the US/EU physical rewards… Like a cool breeze on a summer's day

  • I still have my original NES joypads. Should I get this?

    • These attach to the switch (both on the sides of the switch for charging and via Bluetooth)

You can't use original joypads with the switch

      • I know, and with these you can only use them with certain games as they have less buttons than the regular joycons.

I mean for collectible purpose, are they worth it?

        • +1

Not sure how I was supposed to get that from your first comment?

Really not sure whether they'll be collectible. I've tried selling some Nintendo things over the years and it's impossible to predict what will go up or down in demand for collectors

Unless you mean for a collection for yourself… In which case it's just whether you think they are cool

          • @AnonyL: What was the most popular (or expensive) Nintendo thing you had sold?

  • +2

FYI You need to have an actual switch to purchase a membership to be eligible to buy these - can't get a free or paid one online :(
