Imation 500GB Mini Portable Hard Drive $59 + Postage from OfficeWorks

431

Have been keeping an eye on hard drive specials from Office Works, especially since the dramatic price rise from the worldwide hard drive shortage being experienced at the moment.

It is a clearance item, online only but is showing as 'In Stock'. Unfortunately, the Pink colour will not work in my business, so have to pass up this offer. But if the colour is of no concern to you, then grab a bargain.

(First post, be gentle)

  • Out of stock

  • just ordered one, my 500Gb drive in the PVR is failing so this will come in handy.

  • btw, pick up in store = no shipping charge

OW don't charge that $4.95 handling fee anymore… regardless if picked up or delivered.

I just ordered it. It seems to be free shipping as well. Hopefully I got it.

bugga, could've saved me a trip down the street to pick it up…. should've checked out the delivery charger before selecting pickup

  • +2

No, it's not out of stock. Just ordered one with free same day delivery to my work address(Melbourne City).
    Thank you OP.

Just received. Mate that was quick!

  • Are these smaller than 9.5mm since its "mini portable"?

  • As always with Officeworks, the stock level varies by your location (how many your nearest Officeworks online warehouse has in stock).

Edit: the cart says there's currently 279 in Sydney (plug in a ridiculously large number and click 'Update' and it'll knock it down to how many they think they've got in stock).

Don't forget, that OW online (bought out the Viking stationary company) is different to your physical store.

      • At this point they're integrated enough that I'm not sure it matters - online orders can be delivered to stores for pickup, online stuff can be returned in-store and AFAIK online and in-store prices are always the same (I've never seen them differ, at least).

        • Stock levels at my local store, against OW online vary for me…

        • Stock levels online vs. in store are different but I thought that was implied by the whole online warehouse thing.

    • I called them but no stock of any USB3.0 hard drives. Website is incorrect.

      • that sucks then :(

a shame officeworks doesnt stock for pricematch the website.

Ahhh, crap, it's pink, I'll have to buy one, even though I don't need it…

      LOL! ME TOO!!

  • Thanks, just ordered one. Free shipping.

  • Curious as to what makes it 'mini'?

  • Bought for mac os time machine back-up. Thanks.

since the dramatic price rise from the worldwide hard drive shortage being experienced at the moment…

Don't you just love first world problems?

  • Its not that cheap. 1 and 2TB drives are not that much more expensive.

I would wait for the Boxing day sales. Only 1 week to go!

    • On a dollar per gig basis, the DSE 1.5tb drive for $129 appears to be much better value: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59769

Question is whether you need that amount of space.

      • +3

Also depends if it's meant to be a Christmas gift for a girl.

Most girls would choose pink :P

        • +1

trolling a friend who needs a new harddrive by gifting this to him for xmas. He frequents ozbargain too so i wonder if he'll suspect anything

        • +1

Just buy a cover/case off ebay, to hide the pink bits, lol

    • Compare it to a 2.5" as i'm pretty sure that this is a 2.5" drive not a 1/2TB Desktop Drive.

It all comes down to if you want to lug around a power supply with your drive or not, also weight and size.

      • +1

The DSE deal is a 2.5" drive. I purchased one. No power supply required.

  • wondering how many year warranty for this drive @OW as i found 3 yrs at imation HK site.

    http://www.imation.com.hk/index.php?page=shop.product_detail…

5400 rpm HDD High speed date access
    Size (LxWxH): 117 x 80 x 14mm
    3 year warranty

    • received mine today, it is 3yrs.

  • Just received in VIC for order placed this morning!

    Thanks OP!

  • Excellent!! Have been meaning to buy one for ages, but didn't want to spend >$100 just to back up my random junk :)

  • what drive is inside?

and can we take it out and use it inside pc?

    • I bought it as a gift, so I'm not opening it up ><

And for a hard drive that you intend on using inside a desktop PC, you are better off purchasing perhaps an external harddrive thats on sale, because that offers better value in terms of dollar per gig.

Unless of course you are talking about a laptop, in which you'll have to wait for someone else to reply.

  • same day shipping was really quick. Ordered at 10am and got the drive around 3-4pm

  • Ordered mine yesterday and picked up in store today. Not sure if it's just bad luck, but when I opened the sealed box, all I got was was pretty pink hard drive… no cable, no user manual… Had to ring head office was told to go back into the store to get refund and then go back online to order again… Better luck tomorrow I hope.

    • I got a usb cable and a tiny 2 page manual (if you could call it that), lol…

  • can someone do a hdd test using hddtune or whatever system info app so u can tell me what drive they use inside the case?

  • +1

I can't tell you guys the exact model, but it was a Toshiba drive, and it's working in my PS3.

The case was very easy to open.

    • +1

Legend, thanks for the info just ordered two, one for Macbook and one for Xbox external

  • I recieved mine finally , So much for the overnight delivery . Maybe it's an artic night .
The deal is well and truely finished but for future reference …
    The case pops open very easily in the hand and this is the drive that I found in mine ;

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149…
It's a standard 9mm 2.5" drive that I popped into a modified rgh slim xbox which promptly detected the drive which I then formatted in the xbox and installed Free Style Dash 2.2 installer iso . Works great and very happy , Thanks OP .
