1400$ is reasonable for a gpu?

    • Yes, it's actually pretty cheap especially in comparison to nvidia

Any 3080 at or below $1700 is gone instantly and they're just the mid range models

    • You won't see them much cheaper for a while, everyone put their prices up a lot in January

    • How is this reasonable?

    • Well there was a time when there were people on random internet forums claiming that toilet paper for $5/roll on eBay was 'reasonable due to the current circumstances'. I guess GPU's are the new toilet paper for some sales people/scalpers.

  • the non XT version was this price so this is actually pretty good considering the market

whats the difference between this and the more expansive version

    https://www.ple.com.au/Products/644072/XFX-Radeon-RX-6800-XT…

    • I reckon that one has a bigger factory oc

      • +1

Must be but I couldn't find any info
Though any oc wouldnt be worth $150
Im confused with these models these days 😂

    • The more expensive version has a decent factory OC while this one has no OC compared to reference. This one also has a slightly worse cooler design (6 heat pipes compared to 7, same as their 6800 non xt) and also weighs slightly less which means that the heatsink is probably slightly smaller.

  • lol i scoffed at getting the reference card for msrp when it came out (supplier had one for me set aside)… now i feel like a fool.. a fool with 1k in the bank but still LOL

    • -2

Should have just sold them ;)

      • +3

Lol it’d be just 1 and as tempting as it’d be … not my style ..

  • +2

From the thumbnail I thought it was an outdoor gas cooktop lol

    • +1

probably could cook things on it if those fans didnt spin under heavy load .. LOL

    • +2

i cannot unsee it….now i want to deaign my cooktop to look like amd gpus lol

  • OP, is this cheaper than it used to be?

I swear the XFX Merc 319 for the 6800XT model was at least $1550 from PLE.

Oh, this is the "CORE" version.

Right, I see. $150 for an overclock is pretty rich. Same thermal capacity etc. The CORE would be the better buy.

    • Yeah if you do some tweaking with radeon software, they'll be the same

      • If they really were the same why would they make CORE models? The only reason they would is that many models were not reaching the target speeds consistently, so they had lower binned cards, hence the Core models.

The opposite is true with 3080's, there are no non-OC ASUS TUF models because most of them hit the targetted speeds, and why sell something for less when you can fetch more by slapping the OC sticker on it?

          • @Arcticfox: You should check the stocks for these, those who ordered the non-OC have not received any cards. What I'm saying is Asus is practically only shipping the OC models because they have a higher margin.

            • @ATangk: Not true. I changed my order at Mwave from a Giagbyte Vision OC to 3080 TUF non-OC LAST WEEK. They received stock yesterday. Card is coming via courier today/tomorrow.

              • @CrushJelly: At those prices, you can get whatever card you want.

                • @ATangk: ?? Your comment was saying that anyone that had a non-OC TUF preorder would not be getting their cards.

I'm telling you that my non-OC TUF order that I only had from last week has been fulfilled. Hence your information saying that Asus is only shipping out OC versions is incorrect.

                  • @CrushJelly: Yeah, because I was speaking from the start of the preorders, its been 3-4 months now.

                    • @ATangk: I got my non-OC TUF last week today. Was $1399.00 at the time I ordered it, which was within 5 minutes of when they were first released by stores in Australia.

        • Exactly, why are they charging less when you can change more since they are the same product

That's why I am saying this is for research, I have a feeling that they can't sell the oc model cause the price is too high for a 6800xt

All these cards should boost to 2300-2400mhz no issue

        • Maybe it has something to do with binning? The Factory OC model might have better binning for the GPU or other components on the board, and the Core has slightly cheaper components in it? I guess it's all silicon lottery right

          • @aaronsd: Thats what I said. But this core model has worse base speeds than the 6800 and barely better boost speeds….

Actually, I think its literally a reference card with AIB cooler… Same clock speeds as reference.

  • +1

Reference card was selling $1049, btw, you never see 6800 under $1k, 6800xt under $1.2k

  • Any news on when AMDs DLSS equivalent is releasing?

    • I dont know if they would do it for this generation considering everything is selling without the feature too.

      • +3

It's the dark ages for GPU's. Companies purposefully produce products that lack in advancement and what the company is actually capable of producing -because they sell anyways.

I mean, NVIDIA was already doing it with their 2xxx series, and ended up with:
        2xxx's,
        2xxx TI's AND
        2xxx Super's.
They are doing it this year too, and have postponed the 3080 TI indefinitely to sell more 3080's on jacked up prices.

Judging from how shi*t things are going… Yeah… Although I would be disappointed, I wouldn't be surprised if AMD decided to slack off on their driver updates.

    • I don't have your breath, won't be anywhere near nvidia standards

      • +1

You mean blurry with motion artefacts?

I don't get the obsession with lowering image quality and enticing a lack of optimization by using these upscaling techniques.

        • 1440p upscale to 4k is better than 1440p native, do you dispute that? So why wouldn't you play with that settings if fps are the same

          • +1

@ln28909: Or you could just game on a 1440p monitor and not have all those motion artefacts.

Don't have deal with stuff like this. 1440p is still the sweet spot in gaming.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGyux91eMqQ

            • @neomoz: Or you know people you use their pc for productivity as well …

And sweet spot how, i see no reason to not play cyberpunk at 4k dlss quality

              • +1

@ln28909: 4k with DLSS still dips below 60fps, not optimal. I'll continue to play at 1440p ~100fps.

And I work from home too, I'm very productive on my PC too. I have several PCs here which is why I've tried and seen it all.

                • @neomoz: Well I have used 40-50 gpus in the past 6 months, I think I'm pretty fluent as well

                  • +1

@ln28909: Then you would know that 1440p native vs 4k DLSS. Native 1440p is faster.

Even though DLSS uses the same 1440p buffer, the tensor stage still eats GPU time, so overall frame times are worse with DLSS.

It's not free or equivalent like you suggest.

                    • @neomoz: Of which the effect is only important in fps game, for cinematic games, I'm happy with the trade off

    • +1

If they had something worthwhile to showcase, they would have had it ready at release.

Don’t pin your hopes on promises..

  • -7

$1400 for a card slower than an RTX3070 seems ridiculous.

    • -3

Woah, wait till you get flamed by the amd fanboi

Though I do agree with you

    • Is it? I thought the 6800 xt was comparable to the 3080….

      • -5

It doesn't have dlss and dlss is so good now that it should be a consideration in your purchase

Maybe limited game support now, but it's gonna be supported by many games in the future

        • +1

Dlss is only consideration if you game at 4k, at lower resolution it's blurry, at 1080p worthless

Not to mention it has no space for competitive gaming so this card is very popular for a reason

          • @botchie: Why not for competitive gaming, it is meant for competitive gaming

            • @ln28909: Not with dlss
And without it you have same performance as 6800xt
So yes you can use it but I'm saying 6800xt very much has a space in gaming right now as ppl don't really need rtx and upscaling
Plus 6800xt is cheaper, even in today's market

            • @ln28909: Motion artefacts, DLSS smears details and doesn't work well with fast movement. Also most esports players are playing on 1080p 240hz monitors, like botchie said it's worthless at this resolution, looks very blurry. It's only useful at 4k because it uses a 1440p native buffer for the reconstruction, that's enough information for it to do a good job.

Radeon cards are faster at 1080/1440p native, this is why they're good for competitive games.

              • @neomoz: Well I play at 1440p, so I've no idea what it's like to play at 1080p, I guess you should buy amd card if you play at 1080p then

                • +1

@ln28909: The AMD card is faster on average at 1440p native too. It’s only at 4K that the 3080 pull ahead (or when raytraced/DLSS).

      • Yes, slower or same, I’ve tested one that I bought in the original drop. Drivers are still unstable as well.

It has more Ram, but that itself doesn’t makeup for the hiked price, and issues.

Bought two RTX3070’s in the past month for 1000-1050, so 1400+ is far too much for this.

  • +1

This or send my daughter to private school for a year? hmmmm

    • +2

      The dilemma 😔

    • +4

Wait, which private school for only $1399/year?

  • +2

This AIB card being named CORE, having same specs as a reference card.

Smells like an AIB cooler on the reference design. If this really is the case, it is NOT worth 1399 AT ALL.

  • +1

Just wait a bit longer, don't pay $350 over msrp.

    • -1

This particual card is but a decent oc 6800 xt version for 1400 ish is a bargain I'd say
Prices have been put up in January by all

      • +1

This particular card has no OC compared to reference.

        • +2

Yeah, this card is bs, they are just trying to con ppl thinking its the oc version

    • Will we be getting more reference 6800XT/6900XT cards here in Aus? Rn I've only heard one store say they expect March shipments and the rest are all no ETAs.

      • -1

Unlikely, they already cease production back late last year. There maybe still some shipment stuck midway somewhere in the ocean but the number is very limited. PLE had some 6900xt reference card mid last month for preorder if you missed those.

        • +1

I did see the MSI one from PLE but unfortunately missed out on that one. However AMD is continuing production of these reference cards, but there's no dates or anything rn. Regarding the late shipments, I certainly did see Centrecom and PC Byte receive new stock this week, and I just ordered one from PC Byte as Centrecom jacked the prices up by $800.

  • +2

I'd rather wait 6 months gaming at lower quality gfx settings then pick up something far better for less ;)

Sure i could buy it then sell it for a loss too and enjoy higher settings but really other than watchdogs legion theres not any games around that i want to play that need any more gpu grunt that my 580 doesnt provide.

  • Thanks OP, it is worth it now when compared with the prices online!

  • This deal is still sorta alive just you have to wait for eta
