nbn Technology Choice FTTP Upgrade Quote $0 (Was $330) @ nbn Co

1632

$0 FTTP quotes are back. There are installation fees if you decide to go ahead with it.

Due to the intricacies involved in generating and processing quotes for complex premises, the Group Switch and Area Switch application forms are currently unavailable on our website. We are only accepting applications for some single premises at this time.

Please refer to our website in the future for updates as we continue to optimise the nbn™ Technology Choice Program.

    $2800 FTTC to FTTP

Ill stick with 200/200 Fixed wireless :)

  • 12k for me

    FTTN to FTTP

From memory its about 3-400m to the node.

  • $6,563 FTTN to FTTP… I recall this was similar when I ran the quote last year.
    Yikes guess I'll wait…

  • +1

Just when I finally got on with my life knowing I can’t get anything better than my 35Mb FTTN connection, this gave me some hope of maybe browsing the interweb at 100Mb only to get shot down by a $10k quote. (profanity) I hate NBN

  • +6

    Previous quote
    15983

    Current quote
    16257

    16257 - 15983 = Gone up by $319

Guess the cost of being screwed by Malcolm Turnbull and the Liberals has gone up.

It's how much they stole from my household by destroying the NBN..

Thanks for the free valuation I suppose.

    $2815 FTTC to FTTP

*pit is within a booger flick from the front door.

    • $2815 is a low price for FTTP.

  • Did a quote for my new house which is FTTN, $12,979.

I'll leave it as apparently I'm going to get under 25mbps from what I can tell (haven't moved yet) so at least I should be close to the top of the que for a free upgrade.

Where I currently live it's also FTTN but I easily get 100/40.

    • Top of the que if NBN choose your premises. Remember not all of FTTN is getting the free upgrade.

  • $16,450…. do I win?

  • $12,336.

  • +2

$3300 to go from FTTC to FTTP
i.e. running a fiber cable about 10 metres through a conduit.
    Yeah… nah… not happening.

100/20 plan is fine for now.

If this is ever considered 'slow' in the future I would assume one of the following would happen:
    Upgrade costs would be lower
    ISP would cover upgrade costs
    FTTC speeds will increase

    No point in upgrading.

  • +1

    Got my quote…

"It appears your request is considered to be for a complex premises and requires further manual assessments to understand the build costs associated with your premises and location. "

    Ummmm okay…. :/

  • +1

    HFC -> FTTP
Dropped from about $43k in December to $16,381 now :)

  • +1

Around $3K to upgrade from FTTC to FTTP.

I'm currently on Telstra Cable but about to be disconnected in the coming months.

I'm quite tempted to jump on this because I don't even have a phone socket in my house because Telstra f'd my socket during the installation of Cable and I thought I'd never need it since I never planned to get a landline, boy who would have thought the "new" Internet will come through the phone line…

Anyone actually going ahead with the upgrade?

    • Here is a FTTP list of people who have paid for and upgraded to FTTP.

  • FYI the FTTP fibre doesn't connect to a DPU, it would run to the closest SMP or Joint depending on the existing infrastructure.

So everyone saying "oh I'm sure the DPU is only X m's away" that doesn't mean jack.

DPU's currently only output copper and needs a power source (powered from cutomer NTD), fibre cant provide power like that.

If all 4 customers on the same DPU were to upgrade to FTTP then the DPU could be swapped out to a SMP and all 4 customers would have the fibre run there.

  • +3

To this day it infuriates me the extent to which liberals completely (profanity) up the internet infrastructure for this entire country for the next few decades (at a minimum). At this stage we are at the mercy of 5G to ensure Australia remains relevant in the coming century.

Amusingly, my Mosman-based boss remains adamant that labor is the reason he has rubbish internet connection/speeds.

    (profanity) sake

  • $2800 FTTC -> FTTP. Better than some, but I'm still not paying for something that others got for free (and my taxes paid for).

  • Old quote $32500 approx

    New quote $16400 approx.

Why would the cost have halved?

    On HFC.

Maybe in another six months it'll be 8K.

    Will play the waiting game.

    Your move NBNCO.

    • I think they went from manually working it out to just giving a random number between $16,000 and $18,500 for all HFC connections. So some went way up, and others way down.

  • 9.5k for me.. -.-
    FTTN —->FTTP

  • $14935

I dunno why but I'll run away.

  • Getting a quote of $2700 approx. Is there a tangible benefit to go to FTTP?

    • +3

Assuming you're on FTTC currently, then not unless you immediately need speeds greater than 100/40Mbps

      • Thanks. I am on FTTC.

    • Stability and plans from 250/25 to 1000/50. 1000/400 if you have a business.

      • I’ve got FTTC and then a brand new cat 6 cable for the final run. (Say 25 meters)

Wouldn’t that be capable of faster speeds than 100/40?

        • +2

Yeah it will be when NBN pull their finger out and upgrade parts of FTTC again. NBN haven't given a timeline.

  • +1

$19k, with a micronode two doors down from us! Wonderful.
    niceborat.jpg

  • +1

    $ 25,548 HFC to FTTP
If the cost halves every 6 months I might upgrade in 4 years.

  • +2

Why cant we get a refund for the $51+3.5billion tax payers money from the people who caused it to fail and then we get China oops 5 eyeses said no, Japan to do it and with the balance of the money we can get Disney, Universal, themeparks for all States and still have some change for beers and fireworks nationwide.

Japan had 2gigabit plans in 2014.

    • +4

Because it's what Australians voted for. The Australian people gave the LNP the mixed technology mandate. That is parliamentary democracy, funded by Murdoch.

      • well partly because single issue voters who hate refugees also vote liberals or preferencers like clive/poorline

        thus here we are

      • Are you saying that this particular guy murlock control our leaders who isnt even in the top ten rich list in the world? I just only freakin imagine palpatine.

        Talk about legal mafia….

  • +4

My quote was only $16,406….. Liberal is so suck

  • Everyone complaining about FTTC to FTTP upgrades realise nbn can’t just plug a drop fibre into the DPU right?
Doesn’t matter where your pit is, there needs to be an available fibre connection point and the back haul to make it work.

    • What I would give to even upgrade FTTN to FTTC, ungrateful so-so's complaining about FTTC-FTTP lol.

  • +1

$2,754 for upgrading from FTTC in Sydney's West

  • +1

    3.1k for me

  • +1

$ 33,886 inc. GST… Sure. Where do I not sign?
    FTTN to FTTP.

  • $16 thousand dollars to upgrade my dodgy cable to fibre.

My connection is rubbish every time it rains it drops out and cant escalate with NBN as it needs to drop out 5 times in a day for ISP to give a shit.

I was dsl back or atleast a genuine choice.

Falling back to 4G whenever it rains in an inner city suburb is just rediculous.

Was told by NBN tech 2 years ago my HFC had to reconnected cause it was dodgy job and in water… no way to follow up with them since.

If the 16 thousand dollar upgrade came with a decent SLA I would probably consider having it connected.

  • $ 16,662

From memory Howard used FTTN as a poisoned pill for Turnbull and as an issue against Labor and their financial management credentials as they were pro FTTP.

Unfortunately, Howard was too clever politically, Turnbull too pragmatic (aka spineless) and the Australian public too ignorant about the cost-benefit.

  • +1

$7,900 to go from FTTN to FTTP.

Am tempted, although if it was under $5k would be a lot easier to sway the boss/wife.

  • +1

$ 20,960 inc. GST Wow mines come down in price used to be around 26k ahahah

  • Typical, I moved house and old house was $2774. New house $16k.

  • $2900 inc gst to upgrade to FTTP is not a bargain 😤

    • +1

$2900 is a bargain compared to other quotes.

  • +1

There will be 10G by the time they come around to install the upgrade at your property

That is following installing upgrade to the wrong property 6 times before getting it right

  • -1

Why this posted every three months.
This "joke" was posted here before

    • +1

This is not at duplicate as the old post was expired. FTTP is not a joke, the more that know about this and get off copper the better.

    • +6

The joke is NBN wanting to charge a fee in the first place for a quote to pay to upgrade their infrastructure that they will still own anyway.

      • +2

Even more-so, the people who drew the shortest of straws now being expected to cough up to rectify poor decision making by certain a government.

  • As I'm resident IT support for the family, checked the 3 addresses

    • HFC: $16,343
    • FTTC: $2,765
    • HFC: $17,692
    • That FTTC address is tempting.

      • It is, but it's also the address that needs it least

    • Bingo 2765! Get installment plan for 30 yrs!

  • FTTC to FTTP $2665. same as last time. the pit in front of the house. next door paid for FTTP. I am not paying for it. waiting for Malcolm to get re-elected and fix his mistakes

    • That is a low quote for FTTC-P. It should be lower as the FTTP street equipment is already there.

      • +3

        should be free

        • I wish it was. These are the cards we have been dealt.

          • +1

            @Twix:

These are the cards we have been dealt.

Nah. These were the cards we chose to get. :/

    • Oh no thank you.

Then he will say all you need is 100mbps

      • was on 100/40 then got bumped to 100/20. I’ve switched down to 50/20 since the kids are back in school

    • +1

You realise Scomo is in power and Malcolm is never coming back?

  • +1

    $9,879

the node is in my neighbours front lawn. 45m total from my current cable entry point.

I may as well go 5g

    • Do you know 100% that you are connected to that node?

Sometimes the wires don't go direct to the nearest node.

      • +2

I'm connected to that one, I had a tech going over issues 2 years back and he was walking between there and the house repeatedly

  • +1

they gave me a quote before the $330 price - and it was ball parked at $8,000 - $12,000 - WTF!!! im in suburban melbourne too… i'll def get a more accurate quote with this $0 quote option - thanks OP !! :P

    • +2

That ball park is not accurate for some premises. Post back if it comes in higher or lower.

      • +2

bang on 10k - just did it again and the quote hasn't changed… its ridiculous. maybe no one else in my street has fibre yet - everyones sitting with FTTN - and severely degraded as no one can get above 30mbps

  • 2,822 to upgrade fttc

    • A low quote!

  • $2882 Inc GST for FTTC TO FTTP

    • Another low FTTC-P quote. Going ahead?

  • I got a miserable $39,239 FTTN-P (mornington peninsula)… thankfully content with 50/20Mpbs hehe

    • Highest quote today on OzBargain :-P

      • +2

haha - I'd expect to be building out the infrastructure for a few streets at that rate

    • same area was 26k, get bang on 46/16 with fttn which is enough for working from home

      • Mount Martha for me, 12k
If they’d halve that I’d go for it

  • I got frustrated with NBN and went to UNITI wireless broadband.
When they start 5G wireless even better.

    • What problems did you have? What speeds do you get with UNITI?

    • +1

all i read about uniti is outages and unplanned maintenance scared me off them

  • +1

    $2,778 inc. GST

Not even on NBN currently. FTTC maybe 6 metres from the pit to my house.

As I don't have a requirement for fibre I won't take it further. When I do move to NBN I'll get 50/20 which is suitable for my needs.

I really do feel for the people with quotes in the 10,000 that actually need FTTC.

I do think these prices will come down in the future.

    • Jealous. At that price, I'd probably pay it and write it off as a business expense. Unfortunately mine is three times that amount, which is just a bit too much for me, even as a business write off. Can't justify it if there's a chance that they'll be upgrading my FTTN in the next few years.

  • +1

“ I confirm that I am authorised to receive this quote and give consent to the handling of my personal information as set out in nbn’s Privacy Policy. I understand that the online quote (where available) will be valid for 24-hours only.”

Valid for 24 hrs only, LOLOLOL

  • +3

    11k FTTN > FTTP

    FY Turnbull.

Street right next to mine has brand new fibre running down it……

  • might as well spend it on a hooker

    • Look at Mr. Big Spender over here. You and your fancy hookers.

  • $7560 fttc to fttp for me. Better to wait 5G. I think 250/50 will suit most of people and the cost of Internet should go down in the future.

  • Do tenants of Housing Commission flats need to pay when my neighbour’s dog chew through copper wire?

  • 14k upgrade smh

  • +2

$27,135 inc GST from FTTN to FTTP…rough.

  • It is only 17k GST inclusive to get fttp at my place. I am happy with Optus 5g.

  • ONLY $10K to upgrade to FTTP…
