How many times does this have to be answered? Theoretically according to NBN once updated, but in reality, not even close when it comes to reliability or congestion.

@hardya: So when they enrolled FTTN they all told us that it is temporally as they just run out money due perfect management of project. I am almost 1km from node, my speed and quality terrible and I can't even go to 100Mb as NBN checks confirmed that my max speed is 22Mb due line quality. Another node is 300m away but it is cross boundaries of postcode and I am not allowed to use it. What the f***?
Now seems we need to pay to upgrade it, even we all paying same price for FTTP. What is point?

My initial quote (12 months ago) was $9k verbally but they didn't charge me a quote fee, then $5k where they did charge a quote fee a few months ago… I pulled the trigger at that point but then they offered everybody refunds so I took one. Just pulled the trigger on $2,500 because might as well get that sweet sweet 1000mbps.
My quote dropped from $10436 to $9109, I checked it a couple months back. Still FTTC and right out front.

I get the feeling they went from working them out individually to just giving out quotes of $16,000-$18000 for all HFC>FTTP.
Just another food for thought - there is current a cease sale on all new HFC orders in Australia due to a lack of chips used in the NTD.

Have to laugh, had a perfectly working NTD but when I switched to Telstra a technician was ordered to my house in order to replace the working NTD with… Another NTD! Complete waste.
Yeah for some reason a lot of NBN solutions for faults are to just replace NTDs without investigating
Or install a battery when you will never use it but tell you they can't reconnect you without it. (Waited 2 weeks to get one to reinstall my internet that got cut off by my ISP with no reason)

Hmmm… dunno what you're waiting for, it ain't gonna get any cheaper unfortunately. I got an original 'quote' of between 6K and 10K or 'maybe more'. Now it's down to $3,580 so I pulled the trigger. Same deal, my pit is right adjacent to my property so it's around 25m only. It's twice what I think is reasonable for the job, but what would I know hey?
I don't know how they calculate this, mine is almost half your distance (~8m) but my quote is $2960.
My land is dead flat and pretty sandy so easy digging I guess. Plus I suspect the existing conduit could be reused.
You should be right. I don't have a conduit, my current HFC (non NBN) & phone cables are overhead cables.
@Twix: I think you misread. Sharp probably has FTTC NBN, but is using a HFC non-NBN line for his current connection.
Correct me if I am wrong, but if you went through with the $2795 upgrade and got FTTP, wouldn't you then be able to upgrade your plan with aussie broadband to 1000mb/s download unlimited for $149 a month?

I am not certain I actually need the extra download speed unless the ping improves to allow faster gaming.

5 years ago I paid $3k to upgrade from ADSL2 to HFC (cabling to my unit)
$ 9,660 in December and still $ 9,660 now. At least they're consistent.
$2808 FTTC to FTTP and there's literally a conduit pipe that runs from the pit to my house, the nbn employee connected our nbn with a network cable via this pipe during install.

According to the terms and conditions, however, you’ll need to have been an Aussie Broadband member for “at least three months prior to the upgrade”. If you’re an existing customer, the deals you can get are: NBN 100/40 for $89/month, NBN 250/25 for $99/month, and NBN 1000/50 for $119/month.

@abb: If you keep having FTTC dropouts, better stability with FTTP, 1 ISP for home and 1 ISP for work purposes and the ability to change to any speed you want for a month or a day. With Launtel you can stay on 50/20 and change to 1000/50 or 500/200 for a day if you wanted to.

FTTN currently, barely get 50meg on a good day, depending on the wind direction.
Bury your modem in a deep hole, the data flows better downhill as well as downwind. Upload speeds will suffer though.
Was $660 for the pleasure of getting a quote to upgrade to FTTP when NBN originally came out. Imagine my joy when I received a $10k+ quote after paying $660.
