    Bargain!
Although well known, should have this in post.
“Not available where you currently hold, or have closed, an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card within the previous 12 months.”

    • +2

      Hey, how about adventure card?

      • The 3 varieties are Rewards, Travel Rewards and Qantas. So just cycle between them every 12.1 months

        • +4

FYI - I believe ANZ have recently bundled the Travel Adventures card with the Rewards cards.
Offer eligibility from ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures

2 … Offer not available where you currently hold an ANZ Rewards Classic, ANZ Rewards Platinum, ANZ Rewards Black or ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card, or have closed, or qualified for bonus Reward Points or a credit back on, any of those ANZ Rewards credit cards within the previous 12 months. …

          • @IngenuityDenied: Interesting change. In the fine print of both rewards and travel rewards offers, but not in the eligibility highlights.

          • @IngenuityDenied: but this offer doesn't exclude rewards cards so we are right to get the promotion even if having the Travel Adventures within the last 12 months, right?

    • +4

FYI if anyone else gets caught out by this (rookie mistake on my behalf - off by a month with the black card offer), they don't have a leg to stand on with the bait and switch they perform.

i.e. Website presents in such a way that you are applying for a credit card with reduced fee and bonus points. If you don't meet the T&C's they should block the application and give you the option to pay full fee with no bonus points. Not silently deny you the bonus points and charge you full fee - unscrupulous.

Complain. Ask them to escalate to complaints team and you should hopefully get the fee reversed (as I did on the black card). Threaten AFCA if they don't listen.

  • +14

Had one for 6 months. Met the spending criteria. Still haven't got the points. Every statement says I'll have >80k points credited to my account, which never happens. Had to call their support team 5 times in order to escalate the issue. No solution yet…

    • +3

make sure that the name on the credit card and your qantas ff are the same

      • +1

yep - checked that already. Everything seems fine. They escalated it internally now to find out what's going on. Took forever, but seems like its progressing now.

        • Whats the email that we need to send to for finding out more? And how quickly to they give the points

      • Do the names need to match in order to be eligible?

    • +5

Their support (at least for credit card applications) is outsourced and so extremely painful to navigate. I'd rather get a couple hundred bucks less on a different bank's CC than deal with them.

      • Noticed that when ringing their Support. They were always helpful, but ineffective… They scaled it up in the 5th I called, so I got to talk to a manager which ~seemed~ to have solved the problem. Still haven't got the points LOL

  • +1

Just closed my ANZ card, any other low/no first year fee cards with 50k+ Qantas points that people can suggest?

    • +2

      Yeap Westpac

      • Thats the current, and have hit the spend already. Its getting tough!

        • +1

Bank of Melbourne is free if you have a home loan with them.

          • @nightelves: do we get bonus points as well with free credit cards?

          • @nightelves: hi NE! any card in particular?

Oh and I just saw this in T&C… Existing customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by Bank of Melbourne, St.George Bank or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer. Dammit I cancelled a SGB card in Dec :/

          • @nightelves: Do you have a link showing that? I have my home loan with them and I can't see anywhere indicating no annual fees on credit cards if you are a home loan customer.

            • +1

@shaughan12: I called them up and got them to link the credit card with my home loan and the fee was waived.

      • link?

    • I've started chasing the cashback offers whilst i wait for my cooldown period to finish, also not having many options bar the amex gold/platinum offers doesn't help.

ANZ have an ANZ Rewards offer where you spend $1500 and effectively can redeem for $400 in account credit from memory
the other one is the St George where you spend $900 and get $300 back ($99 annual fee though).

Dollar for dollar works out to a similar sort of benefit value.

  • +9

Last ANZ promo declined my application.

    • +5

      RIP credit rating

      • Why? Doesn’t make any difference as the outcome isn’t shown on the credit file, just whether you took up the credit or not.

    • -1

      Did you find out why?

      • +1

they told me they can't disclose reasons.

        • +4

Their credit applications team (and a lot of their IT support in general) has been outsourced to India.
They're just reading off a script, probably work for ANZ and as IT support for bunch of other companies, and don't really understand Australia.
Try expalining salary packaging to them lol, it's an absolute waste of time. Would happily pay not to have to deal with ANZ support.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: yeah I don't deal with any company that outsources to india.
Not a race thing, they just suck at their jobs concerning customer service. No critical thinking, basically robots reading scripts.

Still waiting for my flight refund from myholiday.com due to covid cancellation.. never again.

            • @yama131: "yeah I don't deal with any company that outsources to india."

              Slim pickings these days.

              • @Roger Ramjet: Phillipines i can deal with, they are a bit better as far as third world customer support goes.

        • I applied again and actually got approved this time. A bit surprised. 1 day turnaround so very quick too.
The funny thing is this time I earn less income

      • +1

I tried to. Nothing pointed to any real reason. As mentioned below they don't seem to recognize salary sacrifice.

  • +1

Sorry is these points even worth it ,when looks like there's not much international travel allowed for next year or so, can u convert to cash? Or spend at other shops?
Or you allowed to keep these points indefinitely and hopefully 3 or 4 years when this covid shit is finished the points havnt expired? !

    • +8

Bank them up for business class upgrades until travel resumes.

      • +1

Oks,I've never really used qantas,or frequent flyers stuff hasn't interested me, usually fly abroad from perth with other Operators when I travel, it I guess it could be very useful if the points don't expire?!

        • +3

Points don't expire as long as you earn or use some within 18 months

It's really only good for flights, buying stuff from the store is a rip.

          • +1

@MassNerder3r: Download the Qantas health app, and you can earn a few points easily to keep all your points from expiring.

        • +3

They are very worthwhile if you earn/use them properly. i.e. don't spend money just to get points and make sure you are using them for flights and upgrades, the best value is in Business Class flights. Most of my overseas holidays for the last decade have been done in Business or above using Qantas points earned from credit card sign up bonus, regular shopping and domestic work flights.

        • you can always use them on the qantas store, not the best value for points but they often have sales. and if you are not planning on travelling with the points it's like free money, the range is quite big, from lego toy to camping tent with garmin gps in the middle :)

    • +1

I am based in Perth and somewhat dependent on travelling by plane to get to pretty much anywhere. currently flights are cheap, but once this is over no doubt qantas and virgin will be milking us… and then I will use my points for domestic travel. surprised everyone is using them for upgrades, I always though they were much better value for short notice domestic trips (I run a small business)

      • Cheaper with upgrades for long haul flights I suppose.

    • +1

I just spent all my Qantas points on a bunch of nice whisky from the Qantas wine store.

  • +8

ANZ are the worst to deal with in terms of application. Good deal if you can get approval.

    • They approved me for as $4500 card, and a $6000 loan (which I paid back in 4 months)

      • +8

Good for you, but the above is true. Their India based back office team can't handle anything but straight salary credit. They baulk at all sorts of stupid shit, for me it was that my payslip had the word Cash written on it somewhere (I have no idea why or the relevance) and that I had salary sacrifice for an employee share purchase scheme, which ozbargain would love as it's 15% discount on share purchase over 15% of your salary, ergo - free money.

I'd held the ANZ FF Black previously (but churned away in 2019) using the exact same payslip (having been with the same employer back then) without incident.

But they kept getting flustered, asking for all sorts of documents, 6 phonecalls later and a lot of back and forward, got a rejected text. I'd already closed my previous Citi card to make the ANZ application so I just went to Westpac and got approved a week later even with the credit enquiry…. and to think I'm a 15 year ANZ customer with a mortgage and a breakfree package that covers a credit card annual fee and I had to go to a bank I only had a relationship with in the past to get a replacement card for one I'd cancelled earlier, same limit, and I had on hand a cancellation letter to prove to them it was closed.

Something is wrong in ANZ's back office, they're obviously very risk averse and target only the simplest cases. For people who value credit enquiries for churning, I'd walk on by ANZ offers at the moment. Some people might get approved, maybe they have simpler affairs, but the cost of missed opportunities due to credit enquiries that stay on your file for 5 years is much more important than risking an application for an ANZ card if churning is your sport. Their ppd is better than Westpac's but everything else is worse. I'd rather go for the Qantas Premier cards but that is what I came from so need to leave that for 6 months before I can requalify for the bonus points.

        • yep, if you have investment properties then good luck getting approved by ANZ…

          • @Ozimodo: I got one a card with an investment property.

        • ozbargain would love as it's 15% discount on share purchase over 15% of your salary

OzB likes bitcoin. 15% is peanuts.

    • +3

      Would debate this,
      Citibank are absolute shockers.

      • Citibank is outsourced to Manila, Philippines.

      • I know people had bad experiences with Citibank, but it's the opposite to me. I've applied many CC with them in the past and all approved without hiccup.

        • usually once you build a good relationship with a bank, applying for next cc is easy with them, less and less paperwork required.
my bad experience is with CBA. go figure. they rejected my low level CC application with credit limit $1000
once applied ANZ cc in the branch, the girl asked how much limit you need i said $20,000, click click keyboard few mins "congrat you get $23,000 limit"

  • +1

any deals on the black card?

  • +2

Great deal. Might be time to cancel ANZ rewards and then grab this straight after

  • +14

I don't get out of bed for less than 100,000 points

    • +2

      I do!

But then again i have low standards…

    • +5

With a $0 fee? Mate its not 2016 anymore, show me the listed bargain

  • +1

Still waiting on a 1st year fee free Black card. A couple years ago it was fairly common. Looks like they don't come up nowadays.

  • Got this card earlier last year, application was a bit tedious but everything else worked out well. The app is quite nice as well.

  • If I used this to pay off another credit card or mortgage repayments would it count towards points

    • nope unfortunately, could purchase giftcards though.

They've clamped down pretty hard on manufactured spend.

  • +1

    Do it on Black please!

    • What’s the benefit of black vs this

    • BLACK CARDS MATTER

      • -1

Funny comment coming from a very white avatar….

      • Thought all cards matter

        • No cards matter, only sign-on bonuses matter.

Cancel culture all cards as soon as the bonus points are received.

  • Can't see any exclusion period.

    • +2

      The third dot point

Not available where you currently hold, or have closed, an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card within the previous 12 months.

      • +2

I guess I am going blind.

        • You need to head straight to SpecSavers. Do not pass go.

        • Stop it or you'll go blind

  • +1

Would be nice if PH advises the end date of this offer

    • +2

Which PH are you referring to? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • What's 75,000 points worth these days?

    • +1

      Depends how you spend them.

75 200 points plus about $400 cash will get you a return trip to Johannesburg.

      • -1

Yeah, I wouldn't be going to South Africa for quite a while with their vaccine-resistant variant… but thank you for the idea of value.

        • -2

Lol, you really believing that malarkey? Africa has actually been the least hit by Covid, interesting considering they are a low socio economic country with extreme poverty and poor hygiene amd health systems….

  • +2

Reckon there’s any chance the Black will match this $0 first year offer (like they have many times previously)?

  • +1

Not available where you currently hold, or have closed, an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card within the previous 12 months

Does it mean if any one currently holds Qantas Frequent Flyer Black are not eligible?

  • Do Qantas points expire?

    • 12m inactivity IIRC
