        • I have credit card that add Qantas points each month, so Qantas points shouldn’t expire?

  • Signed up last year on the same offer. Was a bit slow on application process but no problems after that.

  • Seems like a good deal, only $2,500 spend and no annual fee.

The last one was 100,000 points? Or 120,0000 points but after the rebate $200???

I may have to take this one up

  • Was approved, then rejected when they called up and asked me what my HECS-HELP loan was on my payslip… lol

  • Did not have any issues dealing with ANZ, when I had the frequent flyer card. Had to close it or else they would have charged me for the annual fee and qantas membership fee.
Now have to wait for 10 more months before i can apply for one.

  • Cant offer me the card. Might have to call and find out why. Never been denied a credit card before.

    • they wont tell you why.

    • ANZ and citibank seem to very "selective" and financially illiterate with their outsourced offshored script-based applications centres. I get approved by everyone else, so now I just avoid those two and life is good.

In case of ANZ I saw able to find out that part of the problem is that if you own shares and get dividend income from them, their outsourced call centre do NOT use the actual documented proven income from years of tax returns and dividend statements. Instead they apply a "benchmark" return, substantially below the actual return (about 30 to 40% of the actual return) and then use that. When I asked why they don't do the same for salary income and use a benchmark income for different occupations, instead of using actual payslips and tax returns, they had no satisfactory answer.

  • Does anyone know how we can spend that $2500 without spending it.. I don't think I can buy $2500 worth of things in 3 months.

    • Refundable Hotel bookings. Although "manufactured spending" is usually against most terms and conditions.

      • Was about to say this with booking.com no fee cancellation, but yeah manufactured spending is a big no no these days.

        • well if they refunded to the same credit card bank will see and ban you/take back the bonuses?
if you cancel the cc then ask refund, how they will do the credit ? voucher? then you stuck with the voucher?

          • @CyberMurning: If you cancel the card then they refund you receive a cheque in the mail from the bank.

Although might ruin future applications if you effectively have a zero spend on your card.

            • @Drakesy: then its too late as the bank will see you didnt make any spending, and they will take the points back. if you have spend the points then even worst they may see it as debt.

              • +1

@CyberMurning: I'm not sure if they have the power to request a return back from Qantas.
I guess you could always try?

                • -1

                  @Drakesy: i thought you already tried :)
well they have power to instruct Q to give points why not to take it back as it is clearly a fraud

                  • @CyberMurning: It kind of straddles the line, where you could genuinely book something on Booking.com, receive your points then for some reason legitimately cancel it. I feel the cc company would have a hard time proving you did it on purpose.
I do recall the issue coming up in the past on some forums though.

                    • @Drakesy: agree sorry didnt mean all must be a fraud but bank still can revoke all the bonus/points/etc.
and who know they flag your name/account.
when they reject future cc applications they dont have to mention the reason

              • @CyberMurning: Not really. I had Amex Westpac( black altitude Qantas) 2 years ago and health insurance went through . got the points, used amex and priority passes, and churned the card. Some reason cancelled insurance after 8 months and amex refund me credit to the nominated bank. Got the new card recently with almost identical offer and had no issues

        • I did it with my American express card. Just book a hotel booking a year from now with free cancellation. You would hopefully have spent the required amount during that year with your normal daily purchases and the bank would be none the wiser when the refund goes back on your card.

      • I don't think it is against the terms and conditions. What I wonder is whether your refundable hotel bookings would also reverse the points you would've gotten.

        • +1

Yes. Your next statement will have negative points for the hotel booking. Eg. If it's a $500 hotel booking and a 1=1 card, then you'll have -500 points show up when you get the refund.

They won't take it from Qantas but they'll take it from future statements.

Likewise they don't take back the bonus points if issued (ie. The 75k points).

          • @cheesecactus: maybe you are right. the bonus wont get taken back, as all this initial bonus promo processes are manual, ie someone count how much $ you have spent, then if met the requirement then issue points. after that there is no link whatsover. done and dusted basically. the bonus points are yours.

the normal transactions are fully automated, you spend you get points then later get refund system will just debit the points

get a girl friend or wife no problem with 2500 anymore

      • lold

      • Rule #1: Don’t give them (wife, gf) your credit card.

        • +1

          For married men:

Rule #1 - Your money is "our" money.
Rule #2 - Her money is her money.

Add on kids and you become a walking ATM.

That's why my monthly credit bill is always > $3,000 per month.

          • @PoKGuy: At least you’re getting your sign on bonus early.

            • @nightelves: Indeed.

I also schedule the initial qualifying period with my annual payments like CTP and car insurance renewal. Those are over $2.5k already.

        • what if they ask?

    • Then you probably shouldn't have a credit card

    • +1

Buy gift cards: Woolworths, Coles … if you shop there, might even get discounts but watch out for card fees at some sites.

      • -4

most bank will say they are cash equivalent transactions and will not count toward min spending requirement. be careful

        • +2

No issues with ANZ Black last year and NAB Qantas Rewards Signature this year but YMMV.

Edit - I only buy gift card at 3rd party sites: RAC, AGL Rewards … In store Woolies and Coles don't give discounts on their gift cards (haven't seen one)

        • +3

Not like they can tell what you bought from Woolies/Coles though. Just add a few bits and pieces so the transactions aren't a nice round number.

          • -1

@Autonomic: hmm i thought purchasing gift card need to be in separate transaction and as the machine will activate something like that?
or not, so basically it is just same like a pack of chips? what kind of giftcard and where ?

    • Buy ps5s and Xbox series Xs and sell for profit

  • When does this offer expire?

    • Not sure, but I'd like to find out as well.My eligibility window opens next month (March), so hopefully this stays here for a couple more weeks.

What sort of credit score do the churners have?
My score has dropped from around 840 down to 750 over the last 18 months (9 cards churned).
Not sure how I can pump it back up.
Perfect payment history, cash in the bank, stable job and mortgage etc.
Just lots of bonus point credit card applications…

    • Where do you check your score for free?

sign up credit simple as well. can't remember which is which but one normally gives a lower number. Good to compare if you're looking into it.

        • You're right, credit simple is in the 500s I don't like that one haha

      • +1

        Finder

    • You can't, you applied for 9 cards. What did you expect? It'll only get worse if you keep it up and further more if you want a loan they'll see this and probably reject you.

Otherwise I wouldn't worry about your credit score, it'll improve in time I assume.

    • 9 cards in 18 months !!! I only did 2 every year (maybe 3 if something is irrisitable), cancel one card, add extra 5 points, add one card, minus 5 points (around 785-790). Only two cards atm.

      • Yeah I got kinda greedy admittedly. Guess I'll pump the breaks a little here on out. I had house renos last year so was able to easily phase out the minimum spends with other major bills, was quite the juggling act but ended up with a lot of Qantas points and vouchers.
Credit score didn't budge for the first 7 cards, only the last 2 applications (and a regrettable Latitude Pay sign up) dropped my score.

    • +1

Also 9 cards here but over 7 months. Also creditsavvy, went from 830 to 675 right now. The first few were going down and back up within about a month, to the slightly higher score than what I had originally. I'm renovating a little, so applied for a bunch or cards - score went down. Some providers take a while to notify creditsavvy that my account with them is closed, eg Westpac

      • +1

Thanks mate, I feel a lot better now.
9 cards in 7 months…. You are the super version of me! Well played.

        • A lifetime of ignoring point hacking, and now I've gone full greed mode lol. Feeding off scraps though right now, have churned through all the favorite point earners, now it's deals no one would post on ozbargain. Like CBA Ultimate MCard 100,000 CBA points. $5,000 spend, takes 3 months for the points to clear, need to spend $2500 per month to not be charged a monthly $30 fee. So I will have spent $12,500 in 5 months to earn what equates to 40,000 QFFs. But renovation so don't care too much

          • @archkesha: Haha we are the same person, I've got provisional approval on that CBA card, today should be finalised.
Not the best at all but I've run out of cards too churn.

    • How many cards do you open at a time?

      • +1

I have a main card connected to my mortgage that stays active forever, just easier to have as backup between card.
Usually 1-2 new cards at a time depends on spend limit requirements and upcoming bills.

Dec-Jan always a big period for me, I have 2 car insurance, house insurance, professional membership, all utilities (including expensive summer power bill) all hit together. That doe 2 cards easily and usually 3.

        • +1

Nice. Personally I keep an Amex Essential as my "permanent" card and then churn through one other. Might try push to two at a time.

          • +1

@Autonomic: If you line up the spend it's easy in my experience. This new shitty CBA one will be a challenge … Well at least a bit worse than others I've had

      • I currently have 6 open, awaiting points on 3 of them, will close as soon the points land

    • +1

just checked mine I am on 670 ! never been that low, I might wait a bit to apply to anything.

  • +1

Just saw an ad on Facebook, $225($150 credit) and 130,000 points ANZ and 2k spend.

    Are 50,000 points worth $225?

    • Depends on usage but yes probably.
In my case Perth to Melbourne for 18000 points each way. I can't buy return flights for $225 but I can return free for 50k points

    • which one ?

    • 50K points use to be worth $500.
Not sure what they are worth now, but $225 seems too low. Maybe $375?

      • Yes, but credits you $150

I got the link saved if anyone is interested.

        • +1

Can you post the link up? I'd be interested.

  • Hi, can someone please tell me the value of the 75,000 bonus Qantas Points, like changed to gidt card? And, can I cancel the card after I use the 75,000 bonus Qantas Points? thank you.

    • I took this deal out last year and used the points to get about $500 in rebel sports gift cards.

  • +1

It took me 10 weeks, 2 complaints and endless phone calls to get approved.

  • I have income >$100,000 with no existing credit cards or debts, applied for the lowest credit limit and this is twice now that I've been rejected by ANZ. I guess they want people who are less likely to pay on time.

    • Maybe because you have no credit history

      • I've had a credit card before - held for about 4 years, made payments on time every single time.

    • +1

Just tried to apply with similar circumstances and a 825 credit card score.

I definitely think they preference customers with a lower chance of paying the closing balance each month.

  • Shit.

Just got the Amex 80,000 points card from the other deal this last week.

Ah well, always a next time for a deal

  • I dunno how these 'Big 4' banks have such awful systems. I closed my account with them late last year and was advised I'd receive a final statement in the mail. Of course, it never arrived. I normally get them all electronically, but when I cancelled my card they also removed my access to the online system.

Then a month later I get an SMS saying my account is overdue. Ffs. So now the onus is on me to call them up and sort it out. Just such a waste of time. And yep, now I've incurred a late fee and some interest. And probably a credit hit. Lol.

You would think they would have a simple check in place to say OK customer is leaving us, don't give them an electronic statement as they won't have access - always send them a physical final bill. Wishful thinking!

I did quite like their app compared to some of the others, and their online enquiry system works well - when you're still a customer. Beyond that it's just a dog's breakfast.

  • Got this card from the Point Hacks offer last August…. was a bit of a hiccup when it comes to the application. I gave them a call, they made some corrections and then I got approved for the card. Got 75k Qantas points with no issues.

I do know some have bad experiences with the ANZ Customer Service however. But it went okay for me.

  • +2

Adding to the chorus of people saying how awful ANZ's credit cards division is to deal with.

I spent a month of pain going back and forth, they eventually ended up rejecting me because even though we have a solid amount saved in home loan offset account, and that loan is interest only for the next 5 years, the way they calculate expenses is disregarding any offset and assuming principal and interest for any loans. This happened after receiving a text earlier that day saying congratulations I'd been approved. It actually showed up on my credit report as an open credit account for about two weeks before they fixed everything up. I guess an approved and then closed credit account at least looks better than a documented rejection??

Long story short - unless you have the most basic of finances, probably best to avoid the hassle of dealing with this muppet show IMHO.

To provide a contrasting story, applied for Qantas Amex one week into my ANZ misadventure, approved 24 hours later, card arrived within a week, met the spend criteria in about 3 weeks (a couple of big one off purchases I'd saved up) and Qantas points landed in my account a couple of weeks later. Night and day experiences.

    • I had a similar experience - ANZ were so painful and Amex were fantastic. I just wish Amex had 12 month instead of 18 month lockouts, and more fee-free or fee-fully-rebated offers. But they really do provide a textbook example of good service and being transparent and quick about points.

  • I got the Qantas Amex Ultimate Card just over a month ago with 100k points - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/596111
Am I able to apply for this too?

  • Does anyone know what happens if you cancel the card after the meeting the required spend, but before the bonus points get transfer to the Qantas Frequent Flyer account? Will you still receive the bonus points?

    • +2

The word ‘cancel’ appears on the application page only once:

If you transfer or cancel your new ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum credit card account before the bonus Qantas Points are processed to your account, you may become ineligible for this offer.

    • Nope, hold onto your card till the QFF points are transferred to your Qantas account…

  • Does anyone know the minimum salary required for this card?

    • +2
      • Nice one thanks! It's a fair bit lower than I expected.

  • My friend just got declined for the card. No reason given, seems a bit arbitrary. He has a credit score of very good. Anything he can do?

    • bank will never give reason. this is their normal practice.

nothing can do. maybe pray more next time its all random acts

  • Just applied as have a few big purchases coming up. Lets see how this goes.

    • Just received the approval email (less that 24h for a response).

  • I'm not having any issues with ANZ Bank. Not this offer but this Monday morning I applied for ANZ frequent flyer black card (120k Qantas bonus points, $425 annual fee but $200 cashback), i think 120k Qantas points is better offer anyway than this 75k deal.. uploaded documents needed, got approved in the same evening, card will be now delivered in 5 business days.. I also got Amex ultimate credit card last week, that didn't affected my Anz application..

    • ^^^ That's good to hear.

I'm about to cancel the Westpac Altitude card as it's coming up to its annual fee payment next month (OzB posts from March/April 2020).

This will be a good replacement.

  • +1

i dont have a qantas frequent flyer account- do i automatically sign up for one when i sign u p for the card or do i have to do it separately?

    • Yes, upon card approval:

75,000 bonus Qantas Points when you spend $2,500 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months of approval.
      Complimentary Qantas Frequent Flyer membership.
      Six complimentary insurances.
Access to Visa Platinum Concierge and Visa Platinum privileges.
Earn 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to $3,000 per statement period, then 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases above.
