Also worth price matching with Sony if you've got the AmEx credit (4 days left).

    • Their form doesn't work for me, it doesn't show a submission message and I don't get any email confirmation or anything. Anybody else getting the same thing?

Thanks heaps for the reminder @Quppa. I was able to price match it at Sony Castle Hill and used 2 Amex cards to bring the price down to $855 (After $200 cashback and 2x $100 Amex offers)

  • Is it worthy getting the kit lens or should I rather go for body only and save $140 and get a sigma 16mm lens?

    • I think it would depend on what the use is. Kit lens are good due to their versatile zoom range. Where as a prime is usually faster but less versatile.

  • How does the A6400 compare to the older full frame A7?
    Is it considered an upgrade?

    • +2

I think the A6400 is better as a point and shoot/ travel camera and for videos since it doesn't have a time limit on recording + 4K
A7 probably better for portrait/ landscape kind of stuff. Plus it's full frame.
All up, I would lean to 6400. A7iii would be a different conversation.

  • Nice price, a tempting upgrade from my a6000 which I've had for 6 years.

Sadly I mainly use my camera when overseas, and I can't see I'll be needing one for at least 18 months+ given covid.

You could always flip your A6000 and upgrade. Since being discontinued late last year I've noticed price of the A6000 on the 2nd hand market has jumped up.

Wanted a6600 but that's not included in sale :(

The lens is really shit, it is the same lens from the very early nex5.
If you want your photos to be significantly better than modern smartphones, for a do-it-all go for the Sony 18-135 or Tamron 17-70. If you are ok with prime, Sigma 16/30/56 f1.4 are much faster and sharper lenses even comparing with the sony 18-135 or the tamron.

  • Has anyone received the $200 cashback from Sony?

I got an email for my claim on 3 March 2021 saying the claim was eligible and that Sonypromotions will send me an email within two weeks with cashback instructions. However, I have not yet received this email. Since 17 March, I've sent two emails to the sonypromotions email address and haven't received a response.

    Cheers.
