4TB Seagate Expansion External Hard Drive $99 + $6 Delivery ($0 with eBay Plus or Collect Instore) @ Bing Lee via eBay

810

Seagate SMR apparently and shuckable according to past posts.

I personally don’t need 16TB and as much as I love reading those deals this is good value for those that don’t run data centres and just want their Game of Thrones collection stored locally.

  • What drive can we expect?

    • barracuda but that might be just my luck

      • Is that what you got when you shucked?

      • +1

No, it's not your luck. These drives have ST4000DM004 Barracudas in them. SMR, air filled.

  • very normal price im waiting for $80

    • +1

Yep these do float between 110 and 100. I don’t remember them being $80 but definitely not that cheap since COVID-19

      • yup im kind of waiting for like 15% off bing lee, so this will become below 90….

      • +1

They were regularly $99 before covid, so $80 with the bing lee 20% off sales.

        • +1

          never seen them below $95.

  • +1

after my experience I would never touch anything if the risk was being SMR,

  • +4

I run 3 of these as media drives in my unraid server.
They are ST4000DM004, have been going strong with 1600 hours in the last 1 year.

      thanks mate.

  • Is this a 2.5" true plug and play, or a 3.5" requiring its own power from a wall socket?

  • +2

if you have ebay plus you must get that 5% off every month unique code one off use, so this one become $94 delivered

    • Can I ask where this code shows up? So many people seem to mention it - but it's never shown up on my eBay summary page, nor can I find any information on it in eBay Plus promo material either :(

yeah i heard about this. so the seller list an item. when you buy, seller will use hacked cc belong to someone else to buy that item from OW but with delivery address to you. he pocket the money you sent and run away.

in the future the dispute will be between OW and you.

          • @CyberMurning: Yeah I found a popular Ebay store for games doing this back in 2015…. Reported it to the police who were confused about how the scam worked…. Gave up in the end and the store carried on for 2 years before finally being removed from eBay

            • @Pandabargain: but will the store (victim) will chase up this case with the innocent buyer who paid the bad seller ?
will we need to give up the item as it is proceed of crime/ evidence?

          • @CyberMurning: I've tried to legitimately buy items from Officeworks, they've charged my CC and then cancelled the transaction citing "security reasons" that they cannot discuss because "this might help you to circumvent our security". Having to wait 5 days for an $800 for an iPad to be returned to the card is a long time. I have a hunch that AdBlock is screwing up their tracker.

    "Game of Thrones collection"

    You mean Linux distros?

I have three (shucked) and won't get anymore after finding out they were all SMR. Ironwolf from now on.

If your running a NAS or just want CMR this seems to be a good deal. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/603305

      • hey thanks how come i missed that post.
my NAS sent me notifications about one of the drive is having:
Read abnormality (UNC error) and then I/O error.

i think i should change it, right? drive is already like 10 years old.

        • I’d change the 10 year old drive giving me errors, just think if it was unreadable would you pay $110 to recover it.

          • @Shef3000: It's under raid so one drive broke is okay but if two at the same time then yeah I'm toast.

  • Finally a use for the ebay plus $5 code and ebay itself.

  • So what's the difference between an expansion drive and a portable drive?

I just want a hard drive to plug into my router so that I can share files with everyone on the network.

As far as I know, its just a USB (I've plugged a USB thumb drive in there and it works). Can both portable and expansion drive work for this use case?

    • expansion is just seagate branding name to tell you it is big and need power adapter just like laptop.
      the portable dont need.
you just need to see the actual size of the product you can easily tell if they are big or small. big need power
both can be plug in to your router, but one need power one without

      • oh expansion drive needs a power adapter?

What's the advantage of an expansion drive then if you need power? Is there a performance difference?

        • other brand will call desktop. so dont fixed on that expansion word.
not performance but bigger disks are cheaper. you need to pay lots more for this capacity in portable shape

  • Looks like it's back in stock

  • Sold out again so I’ll expire it again, but for those that want one just check as it looks like they will restock it sporadically.
