I wanted to get a Kindle Keyboard and saw this post from last month for a refurbished kindle keyboard for $99 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/58046

It's no longer available to buy online, but the Big-W I went to in Sunshine (VIC) today had about 3 or 4 in stock. Picked up one of them. Compared it to my wife's Kindle Keyboard (brand new) and can't tell the difference - although these units don't have 3g. Wifi only.

  • went to rockdale this morning and they said that they have been out of stock since before the holidays - yet the website says that its in stock

  • Wierd how Big W are actually getting the refurbished models in stock, in-store.

It's better to have/know its refurbished than be like dick smith and label all returned stock as 'new' lol

  • I got it last week online, should still be available.

Went to the kilkenny store in Adeliade and they said they had some in stock… but they couldn't find them. Sounds about right.

on a lighter note when they go through refurb they should be rebranded as rekindle ;)

  • Ok I got one delivered from Big W it was refurbed in Kindle factory and was clearly labeled as such with 12 Months warranty and works like a dream.

  • This is an awesome deal considering I sold my kindle on ebay for $171 with 1 month warranty. It was 3g model though but with most phones doing personal hotspot these days the 3g isn't essential.

The model with free 3G is great when you are overseas and cannot access wifi.

      • True but wifi is pretty easy to find in most places. I got the 3g model but hardly used it on 3g. Id probably still get the 3g model next time too but I don't think its that important

  • I'm not sure why this model is so expensive though. The new model is faster and hasa touch screen and less space around the screen.

    • Newer Model as in Kindle Touch or Kindle Fire?
Touch overall is a good device, but it is not easy to type without a physical key. I'd always hated touch screen, with a physical key-press feedback it feels more at home!

But as Mike said, touch is indeed better but more pricey!

The Touch also runs out of battery about 10 times faster.

  • I bought one of these from grays online for the same price about 3 weeks ago.

  • Strange that they have so many refurb units. Perhaps they are really new?

    • My thinking was that they are american refurb stock surplus

  • I don't know It looked brandnew no scratches or dents it did have wifi enjoy

does anyone know if kindle touch is coming to australia and when?? i am desperate for one of those!

Saw a Kindle Touch on display next to tablets at HN Gordon this morning ….. At least that what the printed sticker said on the back along with price etc.

      • how much is it going for?

  • I beleive early new year.Just hang on

  • Picked one up from Big W Midland. They looked like they had one or two more this morning at 9.30am.

I asked in Belmont and they said they had none, but it's possible I just got someone who didn't know (she claimed it was online only, which my trip to Midland disagrees with).

  • Reading on one now that I got off Dick Smith a few weeks back. Absolutely brilliant device. Absolutely new without any blemishes whatsoever despite being 'refurbished'.

  • Kindles are great but I would highly recommend getting the 3g over the wifi
wifi is great if using it at home or places with wifi , 3g means you can easily download books sitting at the airport on a car drive or in the train or even browse websites like ozbargain free of charge in 150 countries world wide.

    • Why that was negged I don't know = I've added a plus to get it back for you

    • I agree about the 3g, a little slow but can check hotmail, ozbargain for free.
I have read that with the new touch model the 3g can only access amazon kindle store and wikipedia so getting the keyboard was a no-brainer for me

      • I agree on the 3G too. But the $120 price gap makes this more appealing, so I nabbed it.

The people negging these comments clearly never travel internationally or just don't read much when they do stay away from their home for more than a couple of days.

  • Graysonline used to have it. But it is now out of stock.

  • I couldn't get my hands on one in SA

  • I have a Kindle Keyboard, but very rarely use the keyboard. Thinking of switching to the latest non touch kindle - its so much smaller which is great when your traveling.

  • picked one of these up for someone for Christmas. Looks brand new, works perfectly.

  • Thanks. Bought one to give to someone else. Already owned a 3rd Gen Kindle wifi+3G for a year.

  • Thanks - mine just arrived.

As far as I can tell, it's brand new, not refurb.

  • Just picked up one from Altona Meadows (Vic), a LOT of stock, Around 8-10 left today.

  • Mine arrived today…and 5-hrs later, developed lines on the top half of the screen. Bringing it back to BigW tmr.

  • The stores seem to be getting new stock. Big W in QV Melbourne had 20 delivered today (minus the 1 I bought).
