    • Why wait for that? It'll be a month or more before you'll actually get the system.

      • 14 days?

      • These dells are estimated for end of march anyway.

    • Thanks, fixed the link in the OP

  • Can you add a M.2 PCIe NVMe drive into the XPS 8940?
It only comes with 1TB SSD (+ 2TB HDD).

    • The XPS I bought has m.2 ssd not 2.5" drive

  • As linked by So lo, the dell's model of RTX 3070 is likely to be this: https://youtu.be/hXmE8wESzFo?t=460, with only 1 8pin PCIe power connector (so it'll cap at ~220W power, just at reference spec)

    • Which means?

      • It's not a blower card as someone else speculated. Seems decent enough for a card that's only got a power draw of 220W.

      • It'll perform alright, at least within spec (but don't expect any overclocking potential), and potentially still quite loud fans.

Their marketing materials, namely those images, are misleading also. The GPU wouldn't have "GTX" etched, as it'll be a RTX card, also, the CPU fan images are conflicting, with one displaying the usual horrendous stock intel fans, while the other looks to be a much more capable tower cooler.

        • Why didn’t they put a tower fan and an intake fans :(
Would have made a world of difference.

  • Bought this last month under a similar deal. Not a heavy gamer just wanted a PC to play popular titles under normal settings. Has been playing cyberpunk 2077 etc.. Fans are super loud when playing games but otherwise all pretty good!

    • I run cyberpunk on ultra settings albeit only on 1080P and I can't hear anything.
      Love my XPS :)

Dell G5 Gaming Desktop vs Dell XPS 8940 Desktop

    which one and why>?

    XPS link: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-XPS-8940-Desktop-i7-10700k-…

    • XPS has a better K cpu and wifi 6 but boring case.
However I am not sure if it has a slot for M.2 NVMe ?
It comes with SSD. Happy if it has a M.2 slot that we can upgrade. If not, then it is a deal breaker.

      • ddr5 is away 1 year almost :s

        • +1

          I given up on waiting.

      • From what I have heard it has a NVMe m.2 ssd installed and it also has a 2TB hard drive

    • I’ve had a sell desktop before and the cooling is terrible for the cpu, it’s way too hot. I learnt my lesson buying one

      • I had a i7-4770 Optiplex 9020 MidTower.

Loaded Intel XTU on there just to monitor things and it was current throttling like mad. Could never get it to stretch its legs.

Replace the CPU cooler would solve the issue?

    • Did you decide?

tempted but wondering how much expandabilty can be done. I need to double the ram and install a few more hard drives. use for work mostly. or maybe I am better off going DIY route again

    • Double ram should be easy but dell uses propriety motherboards so ram compatibility might be an issue. As for mounting other hard drives there is no dedicated space for it so it might be an issue.

      • Nah, you shouldn't have too much trouble with memory and storage expandability. With cheap adapters off eBay, Amazon and AliExpress it's possible to swap out the proprietary components like the PSU and/or transplant the innards into a new case - but probably not without a bit of effort.

          and money

  • im confused, do we know when its in stock? is it in a months time?
also can we part out the GPU and add another gpu in?

    • it says on the listing "Delivery: Estimated between Thu. 25 Mar. and Thu. 1 Apr"

      • "Delivery: Emulated between Thu. 25 Mar. and Thu. 1 Apr"

  • +1

There is a 3 year warranty version for the same XPS 8940 for around $150+ more which should be added to the list https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-XPS-8940-Desktop-i7-10700k-…

  • will this run Among Us for my son?

    • Only on low settings

      Runs roblox at 1080p 60fps

  • Saw someone selling this at 2400 on Western Sydney. Taking profit from Ozbargain deals haha.

    • I reckon the people with $2400 budget would not consider the Dell's XPS. If he sells the RTX3070 separately, that is another story.

  • Ended up going the G5 with RTX 3070 $1760.20 - had some 10% off Gift Cards

    ended up with lamb chops

  • For anyone who has gone down the G5/XPS path, is the delivery showing late March/Early April once you order? Anyone get one already delivered?
Also saw someone in Aus post a youtube showing an XPS with a "proper" tower cooler vs the regular low profile cpu fan.

    • I am waiting for mine, says first week of April. I ordered on the 23rd Feb. Dell Website says 2-3 days for same model and eBay feedback says previous orders are recieved earlier than expected. YMMV.

      • +1

I ordered when this went live. Received today

        • Which one did you order? I ordered the G5/3070/i7-10700F on the 25th (so a few days after you) havent recieved any shipping notice or tracking details yet. Did they update your order a few days before today with that before it arrived, or it just showed up?

          • +2

            @itsme56: Yeah, G5 for me.
I messaged them on eBay, politely, when I ordered saying Dell website expects delivery with 1-2 business days and I hope eBay to be the same, given it is in stock and the same company.

Had an email back saying there are lots of orders. Nevertheless, I got it. Check eBay as there may be a StarTrack tracking number in there.

I have ordered more RAM, just another 2x 8GB sticks. I will also aim to upgrade the cooler to something impressive.
I am using this to mine Ethereum at 62MHs.
Equals about $6.50 a day. More with ETH fees (though they will be reduced soon). Either way, after power, this thing should pay itself off in 276 days or so.

            • @Bargain Seeker: Just recieved the email from Dell.
              Estimated to arrive next week.

              • @itsme56: When did you order it?

                • @King181: Ordered 24th Feb arrived 5th Mar

                  • @itsme56: Do you know what cooler it came with? (Small fan or like a tower cooler?) If you don't know or haven't checked that's fine.

  • Can someone show me how ebay plus gets an extra bit of cash? I can't make it work….

Use code PLUSDL22 to get 22% off. Code PLLED20 is for non-Plus members and takes only 20% off

      • +1

Thanks… I feel somewhat retardo, but pleased that you saved me 2%

  • Does anyone know when these deals requiring the PLLED20 end?
