Was looking for a cheap phone for my step dad and found this a pretty good deal.

I bought the last one from HarrisTech which is a few dollars cheaper at $259.90, but Amazon has it for $263.90 which is still pretty great for the 128gb model.

Price says $294 for me after $55 off.

    • Damn they already changed it back, that was fast.

  • More screen, less interruptions with the 6.5 inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O Display

Is it AMOLED? Even Samsung's site says PLS/IPS

    • Says it has a PLS display on some other sites so it looks like it's not AMOLED.

  • If you with Optus then their prepaid version might work for u.

Optus is the 32gb/3gb ram version

  • Waiting for A52

  • Performance is worse than the Snapdragon 665.

It doesn't have any big core (A7X) only 8 x A55 core, with 4 core clocked higher. A5X is energy efficient small cores, so you can't expect great performance out of it. It is however should last quite a bit longer than SD665 due to newer process + energy efficient core.

I bet by selling this as 6GB RAM/128GB Storage though many consumers would be fooled into buying this as high performance phone.

I can’t imagine the majority of people buying phones at this price really delve that deeply into the specifics of the specifications. I kind of liked what Samsung was doing in the A20 series line but it seems this is a backward step. It Would be great if they could offer something around the $200 price points with an amoled screen again and good support. The A20 not a bad phone for an older person. I bought the Oppo A52 recently for my mother and I feel Samsung one UI is superior than oppo colorOS version of Android. It’s a pity oppo didn’t have a good easy mode built in like Samsung has. And Samsung I’m more trusting of long term support than the oppo phone.

  • In terms of simple dad phones, what would be recommended for them?

    • Oppo A52?

My father has an A20, my mother has an Oppo A52. The Samsung One UI is better for older people. It has a built in simple mode. The Oppo offers better specifications, and can be had for around $200 unlocked. The Oppo is impressive value, even has an 18w fast charger in the box.
