http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1817405 << EDIT - fixed link

No info on delivery costs, and the website does not allow you to order via Paypal or credit card, but reports on whirlpool confirmed credit card payments over the phone, and delivery of product when a similar deal to this was done previously.

Company has ABN etc and appears legit, but question marks over virtual offices etc. First registered as a business in March 2011, so also very new.

If this works, then deal is an absolute beauty. not quite free as the iPads can be had marginally cheaper than the price of the 'first' one, but not a significant amount. Prior to this, their previous price for a single same-spec iPad was $623.70.

I have taken the plunge myself… ordered over the net, chose postal order, and then requested a call for credit card details, as well as leaving my details in the 1300 number answering machine. New Years Day, so was not expecting a answer/call back until business is back open.

Will let you know how I go!

UPDATE

Received email via paypal from eglobal with paypal link, paid via credit card and paypal. Very tempted to go and buy another pair to sell off and completely fund the ASUS Transformer Prime when it is released :-)

Update 1.1 > Appears to be free delivery as well, as the paypal request was for $750.75, with delivery being 5 - 9 business days from receipt of payment.

I decided to get my children's parents one each as well.. :-)

Mod: We are jointly monitoring this deal on both here and Whirlpool. 2/1

FURTHER MOD EDIT This deal sounds great and it might just be that. Like everything that is a too good to be true deal, making an informed decision might benefit you greatly. Reading ALL of the better detailed insights below might benefit you before you make the decision.

      • personally, opening a second visa debit card account dedicated to untrusted purchases seems like the safest to me. leave the balance at zero when not in use so any fraudulent authorisations will be declined. do a chargeback if you don't get the right goods.

  • +3

This is a scam guys please don't buy into it. The WP forums account means NOTHING, I have fallen victim before on DP forums years ago when someone did something similar by making sure the user with a lot of history and feedback received his item and then ofcourse he told everyone he got it and left praise for the seller and naturally 100 of us were sucked in afterwards in the mad rush!! Scam successful!!

You are also NOT covered by Paypal protection for a request for money. There is NOT enough details on the invoice they are sending, pay attention.

Even if you do receive a delivery of some kind, again as soon as you sign for it , thats the proof they need that they delivered a "request for money item" not the item you think your getting but instead the "request for money" item .

So on the odd chance you do receive a parcel, you can TRY and make the post man stand by while you open it up in front of him and REJECT it if it happens to be an empty box or a china copycat, that may help you.

And lastly I think what this guy is doing is phishing for your information and identities. So do not be too excited if he issues you a refund on the basis of "no stock" —— chances are he got what he wanted when you signed up ;-)

    • You mention on whirlpool that if this is the racing car driver Jonathan Webb, you can settle this very quickly,
      Care to elaborate?

      • Yes I have contact with THE race car driver ,I sent him a message last night and he replied today to ask what was up, but I was asleep- I am waiting for him to get back to me, and he I guess is not home. There will be a reply either way just waiting and I will update both forums when it comes.

    • He and eGlobal were mentioned in this article,
      http://www.tigers.org.au/news/647/53/Wests-Tigers-continue-t…

I don't think this is the guy?
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathon_Webb

      • No the spelling of their names are different

  • +3

    Hiring a virtual office: $100.

Making sure some guy on WP gets his Ipad and tells everyone about it: $1460.

Hundreds of people on ozb gambling on this being a real bargain: maybe $50K+

    • EXACTLY! Temptation is a devil in disguise and the scammers know it! They prey on those not strong enough to resist or those desperate who could not otherwise afford it!

  • +1

Best case scenario - you're getting a paypal receipt for ONE Ipad (given that one is supposedly free, that is all you're paying for, as will be reflected in the receipt IF you can get the transaction recorded as being Ipad at all.

PayPal protection is good only for as much as is in the account - if the account is empty (as it will be) Paypal will advise you of that and let you know they were unable to recover your funds.

Don't even think about going near this unless you intend to use a credit card for payment. Even then there's the risk that your credit card company may well refuse the chargeback claim on the grounds of stupidity.

    • I'd also recommend avoiding using any paypal link that they send you. Sign into your account via the browser and pay via the request that should be there, if you feel the need to gamble with this.

      • +1

yeah, they should have a clause there
        acts of stupidity not covered!

  • There has been alot of positive responses from ppl actually recieving thr goods. The actual price of ipad is that of around 600 they selling two for 750 meaning they are going under cost but then again harvey norman did the same thing sold one for one free offer and pushed the prices up for a single camera. I can def see that these are grey imports coming from overseas meaning they are not payin any taxes and setting up an online company means there is less overhead costs

As far as paying with a credit card goes. All purchases made through credit card comes with a purchase warranty plus a charge back if not recieved so you are pretty much covered :) i am playing the cards and i know how to get the money out od them it aint that hard will keep you guys posted if i recieve any or not

    • just make sure u dont sign for nothing!
      like others have said
      most likely get one ipad
and if you sgned as received might not get anything back

Subject: PayPal money request from Eglobal for Order 00215 (Apple iPad2 16Gb Wifi + 3G Promotion)

says nothing about it being 1 ipad + 1 free
      just a promotion

  • looks like a high profile scam with multiple ABN and companies name to protect them legally
able to find just one single user who has posted other than eglobal thread and have received an ipad
looks like he made a search for someone with 1k post for publicity

  • Deal or scam now sold out. Will let you know what happens in the upcoming weeks

    • suprised they would be sold out
if it was a scam they would want to sell more more more

unless they were close to some paypal limit where they get marked as supsucious

  • +2

Someone mentioned in the WP forums that the website owner ran a background check on him, finding out details such as his job.
Something about that doesn't sit right with me.

Also, the only really credible poster (14000+ posts) got his express posted, at no extra charge. If the site is a scam, this would be a great publicity move.

This kind of price for 2 iPad's is basically impossible. Even if he had no business costs involved (which he does), I believe this price is below the wholesale price. Every iPad sold would lose money for the business, and I don't believe any business of this size could make that kind of loss in order to "drum up publicity" or whatever.

I am negging only to highlight concerns with this deal, as I don't want anyone to see this deal and jump on it too soon. It could be a fine deal, but buyers need to be highly cautious. $750 is a lot to risk.

    • This is the perfect way to scam… sending 2 for the price of 1 to the credible poster so that others will follow….

  • nah they made their quota, probably just waiting to empty out their paypal accounts and then pack up shop.

buyer beware, but in case this is legit then congratz to all who took the risk.

remember to look at the back of it to see if it doesnt say IPPAD, or IIPAD or some other mispelling from being a knockoff

  • +1

Why do we still keep this thread on ozb

Are we serving a warning for others or promoting the deal

When you get a money request your not covered

Simply put you don't know what type of request this comes through

It may well be a payment request for service or personal transaction type

    Which your not covered

  • One thing for sure is ozb get indexed by google quickly

So hopefully anyone wanting more info about this seller will come to ozb for our comments

ABN and business registration look-up services online are a wonderful thing.

Company owned by the same dude (Amatel Australia) went into liquidation recently and was deregistered.

  • will be very interesting to see the outcomes

  • please mod sticky this thread on the top !

    • Agree.. would like to see the SCAM of the year's deal
Please move it to the top!!!

      • This will take out both the 2k11 & 2k12 award. :)

  • I just went to the link posted and I don't see this deal there. How do you buy this ?? where is the link ??

    • +1

dear, its expired (the deal) but keep tune in the story will be last forever…

      • +1

Ok.. now I see it in the post. I's expired. Good luck for those who bought this too good to be true deal. I was too late (or might even be lucky if this is a scam ;) )

  • +3

Rather than sweating over the deal, if you've already paid for this, the most prudent thing do do is to advise PP that the transaction smells funny.

Hopefully they will take some measures such as freezing withdrawals from the recipient account for a while but if not, you stand to have a better chance of successfully invoking buyer protection because you put PP on notice.

Of course nothing is guaranteed and they can come back and say "if it smelt funny, why did you eat it?"

    • +1

Because I didn't know what it tasted like.

  • -5

A money request is just that, a request for money. You are not covered, you are not protected if you do not receive an item , the seller may say they flashed their boobies at you via webcam - thats your "goods". Or perhaps they will post you a box of cheezels - thats also your "goods". Unless it is eBay or a legitimate website such as Dick Smith or Westfields or Harvey Norman than don't pay with paypal unless you accept the risk!

If you paid already then contact Paypal NOW , - do not wait , do the claim now, no guarantees but it might help you.

    • So are you saying we could potentially get two boobies instead of two iPads?

      • So are you saying we could potentially get two boobies instead of two iPads?

No but if you bought it you may end up looking like a booby

    • Double post

    • +5

Sorry this isn't true, spoke to paypal over the phone and it states 'Goods' as that's what it is, rather than 'Services' which the boobies would be :)

Serious note: 'Goods or Services' is the only option given, you're still 100% protected.

      • -6

wrong dude, been using paypal for 7 years!

Transaction outside of eBay - NO GUARANTEES - Period

        • i bought something from gumtree, insisted to pay with paypal. turned out to be dud (i didnt receive my goods after 20days!), i raised complaint then call payapal on the next day, they issue FULL refund while i was on the phone straight away. $210. less than 5mins call. easy peasy.
ofcourse, original initiator was me, ie i did send the money, not receive a money request like this ipad deal - not sure if that make a different.

        • +1

Transaction outside of eBay - NO GUARANTEES - Period

Sorry, but I think you're confusing a simple paypal transaction, with one involving an ebay merchant. If you transact with an ebay merchant outside of ebay (ie make contact through Ebay, but arrange the deal outside of the ebay system so as to avoid ebay fees), then ebay will not support you. Although Ebay owns Paypal, they are technically separate entities, and the paypal guarantee (such as it is) is not dependant on the purchase having been made through Ebay.

        • ebay also owns Gumtree so in this case they probably are more inclined to honour deals

  • +1

awesome deal~! look forward to possible ipads crossing fingers.

  • They've just send me an invoice and it says PAID IN FULL. Lets see how it goes hummmm…

  • Update from Whirlpool,

2 more users received their iPads.

also mentioned if he was aware of lots of discussions across forums ,the answer was yes, but nothing they can do about the negative post as action speaks louder than the talk. and some negative posts are said to be from retailers that unable to get this price for a large quantities from them for retailing. regarding the price, he explained this is the new field they entered, their main income stream falls on other IT services and this offer was only avai for limited quantities. the promotion is one of their marketing strategy to raise market awareness. about the professionalism of the website, he says it is freshly set up, although the site looks doggy, he said the service team is always there for supports.

they do read threads from the forums as he mentioned OZbargain and whirlpool.

    -skywise

P.S. For both those who voted positive or negative, you can revoke your vote by going to the votes tab, finding your vote, and hitting the revoke tab. Or you can hit the report button.

    • and some negative posts are said to be from retailers that unable to get this price for a large quantities from them for retailing.

raises the question of how he can get get them at that price and other retailers can't (unless he is selling them below cost).

      • As he mentioned, it's a loss leader to generate publicity for the rest of the company. It would be easy enough to come on here and explain everything but looks like the free publicity of this drama is paying off. 2 pages on OzBargain (2500 clickthroughs) and 16 pages on Whirlpool.

Whirlpool loves this Apple conspiracy stuff. A similar type iPhone scheme was uncovered but with less success on Whirlpool not too long ago. That went 132 pages and resolved to nothing dodgy going on.

        • So they read theses sites but make no comment directly…

        • Sure. I mean if a rep came in and said hey guys, we are trying to drum up business by selling these iPads at a loss, here is our abn etc, I would guess there would be a lot less comments. More people talking about it equals better sales? Don't know. That's just a theory of why they might not be commenting. I would have thought giving people a piece of mind by responding would be a better strategy but who knows.

    • well, so far, only tax invoices have been received. nothing would turn up till end of next week or so to prove this validity. whether or not, this is a well-planned scam, we need to wait for further proofs such as pics of goods, invoice and delivery courier for the confirmation.

    • i still think something is not quite right. the thread was started on 21 nov and up to now only a few people claim to have ipads.

      • Because they were in the first "wave"? They couldn't find any info on the company so I doubt people will bite it.

This on Ozbargain I believe is the 2nd "wave", we saw ppl in the 1st got them, so we went on and buy.

The 3rd wave maybe somewhere in the future, when he'll take the money and run away for good, or not. It's all in a big plot that we are not the writer :)

        • And the mystery continues…..

  • They are now offering 32GB Iphone 4s with "bonus" Ipad2 16GB for $1270.50:

    http://www.itprocurement.com.au/service/i/2/n/Apple+iPhone4S…

    • Not such a great deal.

Refurbished iPad 2 with Wi-Fi 16GB - White (current generation) direct from apple: $488
Black iPhone 4S 32Gb direct from apple: $899

      Total direct from apple: $1387

Risking $1270 to save $110 by going though a questionable source instead of direct from apple. Shop around and you may be able to find the iPhone cheaper.

JUST RECEIVED 2 IPADS WIFI + 3G for $750 from COURIER!!!! WOOoOT!!

"expect the iPad's on the 17/18th

That's next week now. It was meant to be this week for delivery (5-9 business days after payment)"

Click on the main link above and you'll find that eglobal are now offering - with more free iPads - iPhone 4Ss featuring 5mp cameras etc etc! They actually have 8mp cameras etc etc! The graphics also show the 4 not the 4S - but with the dazzlingly low prices - who cares. Oh dear! http://www.itprocurement.com.au/service/i/2/n/Apple+iPhone4S…

      • how can a company that made mistakes like that can get very cheap prices of apple product? maybe time to get apple itseft involved..

        • Indeed. Apple, Servcorp … ASIC etc … if they don't want to be part of the mess, fix it now! … or it might be ACA & Today, Tonight when everyone gets beack from their hols :)

        • Pirating containers?

      • mxyzptik,

they had this iphone + free ipad deal same time as the buy one ipad get 2nd ipad free deal.

I believe they will come. I have had pretty good service from them. Ive gotten a call back and invoice with paid in full.

It has not even been 9 business days yet so people need to relax.

        • Now it's 9

        • cuongizzle - anagram of con I guzzle :)

I am sure you write in good faith - and I truly hope your faith is rewarded by Mr Jonathan Webb.

If this is a promotion and not a scam they sure make it look like the latter.

      • +1

as pointed out on the wp thread, the stock level hasn't changed at all

also on the about page it claims they have 300 staff yet they have virtual offices???

lastly, i would have expected a rep of a legitimate company to have posted some comments on threads to alleviate concerns.

  • The guys on Whirlpool are getting concerned now, talking about informing the AFP, Visa etc. lol :-)

    • and mAybe FBI CIA KGB MI6…

      • Nahhh FPSRussia is onto it…

        • You mean they are in on it, no? :)

        • Youtube it

  • Hopefully the iPads will be delivered next week. Just came across the ACCC's "12 Scams of Christmas":

    " 4. Online shopping scams

Found that perfect gift online? Beware, scammers … run bogus websites. If you get caught by a scammer you will not only lose your money but will also never receive the item you were trying to purchase!

Be cautious if the advertised price of an item online looks unusually low. Scam ads quote goods at much lower prices than similar items on the same or other sites.

Be especially cautious when buying … smartphones and tablet devices. These are common scam targets."

    http://www.scamwatch.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/89611…

    There's a coincidence!

  • The saga continues:

From "delivery being 5 - 9 business days from receipt of payment", now delivery is supposedly in 14+ business days:

    Just off the Whirlpool thread:

"Just got off the phone with them.

I can confirm them saying ETA is this Friday/Monday[20th/23rd]. For the long delay, they have offered me a full refund or a free gift (itunes voucher or ipod shuffle).

    I went wtih the shuffle.
Rather the ipads now than free gifts."

So if you ordered, phone them for your free shuffle or itunes voucher or refund - although I don't know what the delivery times on those are supposed to be!

    • ha ha ha, more delays, promises of free itunes vouchers …

      • maybe in June 2012 they will offer free fridge/lcd tv/washing machine if people want to wait..

    • At this stage, the smart option would be to go for the refund…

  • I also noticed they have just updated the copyright date on their site from 2010 (the year BEFORE Eglobal Pty Ltd was registered) to 2012. But the stock levels haven't changed!

  • Within a couple of hours the ETA has extended to mid-next week! ie 17+ days.

(From the same Whirlpool thread: "received call from the lady, confirming the latest delivery is expected to be mid of next week, same stories, but i went for shuffles".)

Oh and the supposed iTunes vouchers are $50.

  • +7

Regarding the "gift" of the iPod Shuffle or iTunes card, if it does arrive via registered post, do NOT sign for it. This is a well organised scam. They will claim that you signed for the iPads, not the "gifts".

    • Good point, and in the event if this is not the case, it could give them more time to clean out their paypal account before a Bahamas trip

Thanks for advising that. Very pleased for you. And if my "scam radar" was faulty, I will see if I can get it fixed!!!

Hopefully everyone else will get theirs in the next few days.

    • +2

well if it is legit, the company has made a complete balls-up of the PR. instead of a having a rep on the forums to answer questions and promote the company they have instead remained silent and naturally speculation of scams has arisen.

  • +1

It seems it was legit, because people started to receive their ipads yesterday. Start removing (-)ves !!!

  • Redm00n still seems to be the only person reporting having received theirs, so while it's certainly a positive sign, I think we should wait until more feedback comes in before assuming the company is legit or not. When you've got ~50 peoples money it's easy to supply one guy the product.

    • anyone else receive their double iPads??

      • +1

Yes - a few more of the wp posters have now received theirs, and I have received a Auspost tracking number for mine…

  • I've been reading through the WP through from time to time also, and I still can't comprehend or understand it. I don't know why a company that focuses on corporate procurement would sell iPad's at a loss, it's not even targeted at their client base.

Should another deal like this come up, I still don't think I'd go through with it, but congrats to those who pulled the trigger on this one and received them, good that it worked out, and the stress was worth it.

  • Congrats to the brave who took a gigantic risk!

  • Indeed.

As with braddsey, I'm still not convinced the company isn't using this either as a deliberate scam building up trust or is simply a poorly managed business that'll end up going away with a bunch of people's money (a la Nintek).

'grats to those who took the risk and won, but even with that win I'm not willing to take the risk :P

    • you are just jealous now, lolol, nah i kid i kid

  • Was there anyone who didn't receive their iPads?

  • i m no luck, i still waiting for the ipads order.
is there anyone still waiting for the ipads order?
who did u contact to? or did anyone contact you from IT Procurement?

  • Strangest offer ever. Was it ever decided if this was a scam or not? Website is down but not many complaints about items not received.

    • i think, they are half scammer. they advertised very cheap ipad, got alot of money, send out few ipads and make sure those (VERY lucky) receivers posts good reviews on wp/ozb, therefore more people buy.

      then….

      run away…

  • tl:dr so this guy summarises it in March:

    http://whrl.pl/Rc7jW0

Not sure if it was more than 7 people who received them. It appears to be a quick iPad ponzi scheme. Those who received the 2 iPads did so with the money from later people.

The lesson from all this? Get in first and be the first to advertise it (like epicaricacy) as are bound to honour the deal of the first public poster to make it look legit. Bad luck to those who didn't receive. You took a punt, you're a true Australian.
