OzReminder for those who may not be familiar with this hack. Thank you for the original post Ulysses31. Here are some steps to setup a Turkish or Argentinian Netflix account to save $$$. Results may vary so its best to read up, there are plenty of comments below and members happy to help. Unfortunately it may not work for everyone so please keep that in mind.

Step 1: Please understand that following all these steps may not work for you

There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe to an international Netflix account. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:
* Modem reset for faster internet,
* Cash back program purchase tracking,
* Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
* Targeted bargains, and
* Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.
Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up to Netflix Turkey or Argentina. After all it is intended for people who reside in Turkey or Argentina. A Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work.

A Others have had success purchasing Turkish Netflix gift cards (for a premium) or using Transfer Wise.

Q I have an existing Netflix subscription, can I use the same email?
A You can try! Visit Netflix website and cancel your subscription ASAP. It will expire at the end of the billing period. Then follow Step 1-5.

Q Do I need to use a VPN every time I access Netflix?
A No, VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

      Yeah, and that's the Pre-Tax price for the Premium Plan. The email I got from Netflix said:

      Your monthly price will increase by ARS220 to ARS669 (pre-tax)

      As of around October 2020, there is also now a 35% tax. So that works out to be 903.15ARS, which is currently AU$13.01.

        Argentina's inflation is around 40%. So Argentina's price will frequently be increased to keep pace, and the value against the Australian dollar will change accordingly (i.e. jump up when Netflix adjusts the price, then slowly fall, then jump up again).

        There is a 35% foreign credit card transaction tax in Argentina, as you correctly point out.

        Actually to correct myself, @Illumination pointed out and confirmed here there are actually 64% taxes applied. That means with the price increase the Premium plan will go up to 1097.16ARS after tax (669*1.64). MasterCard rates show that’s currently AU$15.92. Definitely worth switching to Turkey rates.

    Great way to save on this, just be aware the Argentina pricing is excluding their Netflix tax which is pretty hefty (I thought extra 35% but could be more).
    Still works out noticeably less

      Yeah but this tax is to be collected by the credit card company, not charged by Netflix, so I don't think it applies to people using non-Argentina credit cards. I'm with CBA and don't get charged the tax.

        I'm with Latitude 28 Degrees and the tax started applying in October 2020. My Premium Plan went from 449ARS (~ AU$8.18) to 736.36ARS (~AU$13.43 at the time). Due to stronger AUD my Feb 2021 was $10.66. As per my above comment, this will go up again to around $13.01 next month.

        Which plan are you on, and what are you currently playing in ARS/AUD?

          i dont understand, i am currently on the highest plan, and i pay between 8 to 10 a month, i did also get email about the price raise, but atm 8.65 (no tax) that i am aware of.

        But if the tax is being collected by "credit card company" then it's likely the merchant bank that's collecting it. Not the issuing bank. That wouldn't make sense to make the issuing bank collect it.

        The tax is confusing.
        It's a 35% foreign credit card transaction tax. It's meant to apply to Argentinian citizens that use credit cards to purchase products outside their country, but it's unclear whether it also applies to foreign citizens purchasing products inside Argentina.

        The tax is designed to reduce the outflow of Argentinian pesos from the country, as most of Argentina's economic problems seem to stem from an inadequate supply of Argentinian pesos. So that doesn't really work for foreigners.

        I don't know why/how you're getting away with not paying the tax, but that absolutely is not the norm. You should've been charged the tax from around October last year.

        Here's an article (in Spanish) that describes the tax.

        As per google translate:

        What happens is that since it is an international transaction, to this you have to add your taxes, in percentages that always apply to that amount: 21% VAT, 8% of the PAIS tax and 35% of Profits.

        So add those taxes up and you'll get 64. That's a 64% premium on the listed price. 449 ARS? Multiply that by 1.64 and you'll get exactly 736.36 ARS

            I think it states 35% somewhere. I can't recall where but I've seen that figure before. I assumed the same, until I quickly realised that 736.36 compared to 449 is far more than a 35% hike haha.

            Yep. To be honest, Argentina is nowhere near the cheapest because of the tax. The other cheap options other than Turkey are Brazil and Pakistan.

        Hey, I use revolut if you've heard of it. No exchange fees and its free + works on almost all sites, even if you have to put a billing address in another country or whatever. Only caveat is less buyer protection.

      Content presented is based upon what country you're currently in, so turn VPN off after subscription & get Australian content. I've seen no odd recommendations.

        Like packaging Disney, Stan, Netflix (prime?) for one monthly price, split amongst Ozb members.

      It is only for signing up to subscribe. They stop you from streaming content if you access via vpn.

      Vpns only affect the native apps on their respective platforms. Works perfectly fine when using an external vpn app on windows and visiting netflix.com on edge (not chrome, doesn't support 4k)

      Had this issue too - all my cards failed 28deg, ING, etc . So I bought a Turkey 100 TL Netflix gift card signing up via vpn to Turkey. After that just before the giftcard expired this March. I log into netflix and go into account (without connecting to the vpn) and I was able to add my 28 Deg credit card, charged in TL 29.99 (standard plan) . I was not able to add my 28 Deg credit if I used the vpn. I hope this helps some people - buying Turkey gift cards is not easy.

      So I had issues with my bank card too. My workaround was using Netflix AU as normal with my bank card then after a month cancelling and renewing with VPN. That way the card was already on the account and it just processed through fine.

      I was in the same boat as you using my NAB cards, I ordered an 86400 card for free and it worked with that.
      Don't even ask me how I got it working I spent close to 5 hours trying to move my account across onto Turkey pricing and eventually I got it done, was a nightmare and I work in I.T and still struggled with this lol

        It worked for me. I had old Argentinean account with anz card on. Used new turkish account with gift card till price increase, as it was costing too much with gift cards.Then switch back on desperation on Argentinean account to Turkey, asked me phone no, new tab worked fine for me.

            Currently using the Indonesian one as I’m stuck here. Sign up process isn’t very seamless. You need to download separate app (Disney+ Hotstar) from the Indonesian store and need an Indonesian mobile phone number to sign up.

            You can pay using CC/iTunes store but not sure if international CCs is accepted. The other options are like local bank transfer or at the convenience store.

            I used my Australian Disney+ account with VPN here and it sometimes worked, sometimes didn’t. As to whether the Indonesian one will work overseas or not I’ll find out once they stop banning arrivals from this country.

    I tried but it got rejected due to insufficient fund as tried charging $752.xx to my card.

    Seems unusual .. Any guess why it tried charging this much ?

      That's the super ultra platinum netflix plan. It's basically the same as ultra but it costs $752.

          Taxes, there is like a 60% tax on Netflix Argentina. I speak Spanish so i googled some Argentinian sites and they explained that. Those 60% is broken down in many things, but that's the reason you are charged more. I got the same issue do cancelled my Netflix a few days ago and now I'm waiting for the new billing period to renew from Turkey.

    The old post on this has expired due to the fact Netflix now requires you to enter a mobile number to confirm you are from Argentina/Turkey. There is no way around this. Therefore, why is this “deal” posted as it doesn’t work anymore!

      It worked for me as follow:
      Signed up as normal using Australian mobile number and a Netflix Gift Card
      Click cancel subscription
      BEFORE expiration add your Australian credit/debit credit card as payment method (I used TransferWise)
      AFTER expiration FIRST turn on VPN to Turkey, THEN reactivate the service
      Wola, enjoy the half price

          Yeah just wait the subscription to expire. You can also try to contact support to cancel your service straight away and got refund if you used your credit card when signup but I used gift card so I just waited till all credit been used.

          I don’t know if it’s important or not I just had a gift card available when I did initial sign up. Guess you may not want to have a Aus bank card linked with your Netflix account initially. Instead add it at later stage

        Yeah I did something like this.

        1. Signed up to normal AU netflix account with Citibank Card.
        2. Ensure my AU Mobile is entered and then verified on the account
        3. Cancel Subscription.
        4. Wait for my account to expire.
        5. Turn on VPN (I used surfshark at the time) and change to Turkey
        6. Reactivate account on Turkey plan (my bank card and mobile number would already be verified and it just let me proceed).

        Easy money
