8x AA/AAA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries $9.99, Night Vision Device $159, 4 Person Tent $129 @ ALDI

1390

New catalogue, sorry about all the reflections.

Good price on the batteries, I don't remember them doing an 8 pack special before. Beats the regular $5.99 for 4 that they used to have permanently.

"Night Vision Device" just sounds cool. Feel free to post other deals from the catalogue.

Batteries available 17th March, Tent and night vis thing available 20th March.

  • Is the power generator $399 good value?

  • I just use aldi one for low battery usage items. Ikea one for toys etc..

Compared to Eneloops, Aldi rechargeable batteries are terrible. Don’t make the mistake I made, spend the extra money and buy Eneloops. They are so worth it.

    • the white ikea batteries are also worlds better, and very affordable.

    • Mine died after only a few charges, has anyone had them last any length of time and if so what mA are you charging at?

      • 1200 mA, mine have been going strong for over 400 charges. I use them daily.

Any slower and you risk cooking the batteries as it misses the delta V.

    • Where is a good shop to buy them from? And what's a good charge for them? I.e should I buy a bundle (charger & batteries) or buy both separately?

Use the search function on OzBargain and look historically where the deals have come from. There have been countless deals on here for both Eneloops and changers in the past.

  • Waiting for the “I have many eneloops” comments

    • Many Eneloops do I have.

    • I would like to have more, more, more Eneloops.

These night vision goggles will do nicely to replace all the light source. Got one for the missus too!

  • Has anyone tried their tent. is it of decent quality

  • Are the Aldi batteries really that bad compared to ikea? Few posts saying they're bad quality. I was actually going to buy some since ikea is nowhere near me

It really depends on your usage patterns, but these batteries are a terrible choice for most people. Unless you have the equipment and knowledge to fully manage these batteries, you will get poor results.

      To give you an example…

One of my devices takes 6xAA batteries in series. It is absolutely imperative that all six batteries have the same capacity and discharge curves (or as similar to each other as possible), otherwise at least one of the batteries in the set will over-discharge (or worse reverse polarity). With high quality batteries, such as Eneloops, the manufacturing tolerances are good enough that all batteries perform well enough. With ALDI batteries, the manufacturing consistency is so bad that you need to buy about 18-24 batteries to get two sets of 6 batteries that are matched well enough for effective use. So, to match the ALDI batteries you need an analyser, a big pool of batteries and the expertise to make sense of it all. Not worth it for most people.

  • Anyone buy the 65 litre fridge freezer last time it was on?

  • With the special buys can you buy more than 1 item? My parents are quite elderly and won't really be able to go especially if it's queues. so I wanted to buy 1 for them as well as 1 for me. Is it also queues every week for special buys?

    • +1

Usually you can buy multiple items yep, they reserve the right to limit quantities of the same item, but I don't think they ever limit buying different items.

Queues vary, but it's normal to have queues on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Usually only the really popular items will sell out at opening, but it's kinda impossible to predict sometimes.

      • I actually wanted to buy 2 of the same item and was worried they may say no.

        • +1

          Probably won't, I think you'll be ok.

          • +1

@Alzori: Rocked up too early.. Thought they open at 8 but it's 830.pretty much the head of the queue. But the queue is a bit disjointed. Never thought I would be in a aldi queue again. I just don't know if it's worth standing in a queue.

Interesting but I hate it when videos tell you how easy a tent is to put up but never show you how it packs away.

        • +1

I picked up one of these from Aldi in 2019. Packing away is almost as easy as setting up.

        • Couldn't agree more !!

    • +1

      Store in title please.

    • Im sure this is a good tent. Now that i own an instant up with no awning, i dont think i could tolerate this due to apparently having to put the awning up with those two poles. The one i have just snaps up and is completely self supported wuth no awning or awning poles.
Im pretty sure i could probably get by without even staking it into the ground in the corners, depending on circumstances.

      • +1

        Can you please add link?

      • Absolutely I personally had the awning one time, it was in Jindabyne and rained for 4 days straight but you gotta be smart about how to place poles otherwise water collect on the awning and it will collapse, I had something heavy in the middle as can remember to make a low point so water rain out!

At the moment tents are listed as not being in store on the 20th https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buystm-produ…

    • +3

This is false advertising. They are not instant up. You have to put the damn thing up. I want a bastard that will just pop open dammit.

    • are there instant up tents with living space so i dont need to buy a separate gazebo to keep the mozzies out?

      • Kathmandu retreat 360. Has like 2 bedrooms, middle can be living space, rear storage room and front fly room. Pretty expensive though, got it half price on boxing day.

        • +1

          Not an instant up though.

        • That is a great deal I reckon, also more compact too? I was a little sick of a lot of tent poles and separate tent and fly. you are already tired when you rocking up to the camp and cooking is another thing you should worry about, so that's why I went with this type of tents

        • Is this instant though? Looks like it’s a standard tent

      • +2

instant up is sort of limiting it. doesnt have to be instant up

    • Great tents, I've had mine 4 years now and still going strong after many setups.

I recommend buying a larger canvas bag for easier storage as the one included is barely big enough.
      Something like

      https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/kings-oversized-swag-bag-fi…

Just leave your air mattress in and pack it up. Bag has room for some chairs on top.

      • That is absolutely genius !! I have my ground trap/ heavy duty pegs and a hatchet in the tent bag of course some extra guys ropes also add one roll of duct tape to the collection too if something goes wrong

        • of course some extra guys ropes also

…what do you guys get up to when camping?

also add one roll of duct tape to the collection too if something goes wrong

Well if you tied them up properly…

    • Good for Fraser Island

      • where you cant trust a rooftop tent with a rhino rack? ha ha ha ha
