Based on the success of the Victorian Government’s Regional Travel Voucher Scheme supporting travel to regional Victoria, support will be extended to tourism operators in metropolitan Melbourne.

The Melbourne Travel Voucher Scheme voucher provides a $200 reimbursement when you spend at least $400 on a minimum two nights paid accommodation, plus tours or attractions in any of the 26 metropolitan Melbourne local government areas (excludes areas covered by the Regional Travel Voucher Scheme, including local government areas that cover Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Dandenong Ranges and Frankston).

Those who has received a voucher through the Regional Travel Voucher Scheme are eligible to receive another travel voucher in this scheme.

40,000 vouchers will be available.

The key dates for this scheme are:

Registrations open:12 March 2021, 10.00am

Eligible Travel Period: 19 March 2021 to 16 May 2021

Claim period and cut-off date: 26 April 2021 to 30 May 2021

    Got an email confirmation. Looks like this may be a 2 step process. Not sure if registration guarantees a voucher.

    Your final payment will be subject to an eligibility check. You must have evidence that you are over the age of 18 and a Victorian resident to access payment.

    You will also need to present evidence that you:

    Stayed in metropolitan Melbourne for at least two nights in paid accommodation between 19 March and 16 May 2021
    Spent at least $400 on a combination of accommodation, tours and attraction entry fees during your stay, noting that a portion of this expenditure must be spent on accommodation
    You can redeem your voucher between 26 April and 30 May 2021.

    We will be in touch within 10 business days to confirm your eligibility; and in the week commencing 26 April 2021 with instructions on how to submit your claim.

    Just with the wording can anyone clear this up for me… does the accomodation itself have to total $400… or can the accom for two nights be say $300 total and then $100 tickets on a theatre show to make up the $400? Just a bit confused on the "plus" wording - I'd like to stay in a cheaper place and put the voucher toward a show if possible.

      The accommodation can be $30 for two nights in a dorm, and the rest on show tickets/hot air balloon ride etc.

      Yea I'd say so. I think the additional step is to weed out potential bots/fraud etc
      The entire process is pretty archaic really. VIC still doesn't have a half decent services vic app. 10 years behind nsw.

      The SA one I got and wasted . They were generous letting the whole of Australia apply :)
      This one I'd say 1 in 3 wastage is my best guess. I have no doubt the government is aware of some figure .
      Hopefully a 20% off gift card is ok for this program to apply correctly for the rebate . No clue if it works at this stage .

    I'm thinking of staying 2 nights in one hotel - around $220 spend and another 2 nights in another hotel for another $180 totalling $400.

    Does the $400 spend on accomodation need to come from one hotel booking only?

      Yes, if the minimum two nights paid accommodation is in an eligible metropolitan Melbourne local government area and relevant receipts are provided, you can spend money across multiple locations.

      What can the vouchers be spent on?
      To be eligible for redemption, the following criteria must be met:

      Recipients must stay a minimum of 2 nights’ paid accommodation in greater Melbourne.

    The hotel won't issue the invoice so the Expedia confirmation would have to do.

      Must rather this approach than funneling our money through businesses who then keep the money like the job keeper scandal.

      The Morrison government and the Liberals are much better at harrassing women and taking part in rorts/dodgy dealings than helping the public.
