Hey, this seemed like a pretty decent deal on the iPhone 4 (not 4S) for those that can get decent Voda coverage. Actually cheaper than getting the 8 gig model from Voda as well, probably because it's discontinued. Save a couple hundred bucks and get something not at all far behind the current model (: (avoiding discussions of Android haha)

Not that much in terms of inclusions - $180 bucks of credit & 200mb data - but you still have free calls to Voda/3 and unmetered social networking. Minimum cost is $816.

  • pretty cheap

    • Yeah. It's on par with the Galaxy S1, and 32GB is a +.

  • Funny, it's usually Lifehacker leeching from OzBargain.

    • It can go both ways, we're flexible like that..

  • +3

    would rather a galaxy s2..

iphone 4 is outdated and 200mb is pretty poor, on Optus $29 i get 250mb.

      • +20

Really? I'd rather use Symbian, iOS, Android, WP7, hell WP6.5, Maemo and whatever the hell not rather than being kicked in the balls.

Good find, OP. Good device on a good plan. Slightly outdated but will still serve its purpose for MANY people.

      • +2

so if someone offered to lend you their phone, do they get a free kick at your balls? ^_~

      • ^^ Infinite kick in the balls combo

  • If you're a current 3/Vodafone customer who has been with them for a while, you can negotiate the exact same deal $29 cap, $180 inc. calls, 200MB data, but get an iPhone 4S. My partner negotiated for this deal mid december, so dont settle for the iPhone 4 if you dont have to.

    • +3

Vodafone are super easy to negotiate with. The vodafail press really makes them play fetch these days.

I called them up 2 days to cancel my contract and I said I'm going with live connected. The Vodafone representative offered me a great deal which was $17.50 for $550 worth of calls which includes calls to International numbers, free calls to Vodafone and 3 customers and 1.5GB of data.

Better deal than Live Connected as International numbers are not included in the cap. Also I would have felt annoyed to pay $20 for the sim alone.

      • That is an incredibly good deal. I would jump on that if I could. I suppose it was without a phone though? At least I hope it was without a phone!

        • Yeh without a phone. My contract was ending so I was ready to leave.

        • This is a standard retentions offer - you have to be coming out of contract and claim to be considering leaving to get it. though it occasionally comes around for new customers too. The thing he didn't mention is that it's 6 months half price on a 6 month contract - you have to request the offer again every six months, and there's a termination payment if you leave early.

      • How did you get that!!! My contract ends in 2 months you reckon I could negotiate a similar deal to yours if I said I was thinking of moving?

        • +1

Yep easily man. I wasn't asking them for a deal. I kept saying "i just want to cancel". I also mentioned live connected plan for $16 bucks a month and they said let me see what we can do. So they offered me the sim only plan for $17.50 a month for 6 months.

        • Oh wow okay thanks man I'll do that! One last thing do I call sales or customer service? :) Thanks!

    • do you need to pay anything for the handset ? up front fee ? handset fee per month? or does 29 include everything ?
      Thanks,

      • I would also like to know this.

        • Guys it is 34 a month total; best deal on the net, optus is like 55 or something ;-)

        • The page that the OP linked to states that the mobile is $5 per month on the $29 per month cap (24 month contract). So, assuming you stick within the confines of the cap (in particular remembering that there is only 200MB data allowance per month) you will pay a total of $816 over the two year contract.

    • +1

Yes, i did the similar thing too. I upgraded my two 29cap (12 months, HTC legend) to IPhone 4S 49CAP. After long time negotiation and supplying a promotion code, they agreed to waive $5 per month handset fee, gives me $10 discount every month, and also waive the $10 delivery fee.

So, I need to pay $39/month only for Iphone 4S with 49CAP. However, keep in mind that their system sucks. I just received their confirmation, which still stated that I need to pay $5 for handset and $10 delivery and $49 for cap plan. I had to ring them up today and was told not to worry, just wait for the bill. If the bill is not correct, then call again.

      • I agree. It took me months and many phone calls before I was billed correctly.

        • likewise.

    • +1

You are right, if you really pest them, like i did, you can get it for $26 on a cap. They still charge you $34 but then give you loyaly credits back, must be some tax scam or something….but i dont care, its a savings for me!

  • I need to upgrade from my iphone 3G with Optus but highly doubt they will do any offer like that. I am a lower end user so only need a $29 plan, but i do like to have a decent data allowance. iphone 4s on optus is only free on like a $49 plan.. rediculous.

  • don't forget $100 cashback with buckscoop :)

    • Why are people recommending starthere if you can get $100 instead of a possible $75

  • +1

I got it , dont know how long they take to deliver so hope my mum will be able to show my ID if I am not home. I have been waiting and waiting for a good plan on an iphone 4 so this has come at the best time for me, thankyou!

    • a bad deal heh

  • Actually up to $75.00 rebate with Vodafone Handset plans on StartHere.com.au if it's on a plan.

    Thanks, Steve.

    • But it says.. 7.5% - hmm
so would it be 7.5% or $75? $75 is better. 7.5% of the 24 month cost is $61.20

      edit: Oh I see, tiers.

So I think most of us would PROBABLY be white tier. Which would mean, 7.5% is better. 7.5% is what's listed in the Ozbargain profile for Vodafone. 7.5% is shown just below the description of the deal.

      • Actually I think the vast majority of us should be Founder tier (above the highest public tier) since everyone that migrated over from MoneyBackCo was automatically put on it :)

      • There's an issue with my code pulling from StartHere. It's up to 7.5% for prepaid phones, and up to $75 for postpaid plans. Yes founder level gets $100 :)

  • +3

for those that can get decent Voda coverage

Where do you find these people? Are they magical people from happy land who live in gumdrop houses on lollypop lanes?

    • +2

As long as you're not living out in the Stix you should get some decent coverage in most metro areas.

      • +1

I live in the 'stix' and get coverage at home - visited Brisbane and got zilch.

    • +3

few parts of canberra CBD has decent voda coverage but not where you want it to be(vodafone shop in CBD has no coverage LOLZ)

  • +2

Just not called Voda, I was on contract for 29$ plan with 3 and having 3 month left. All 3 months were waived and given 1GB free for 24 months on Vodaphone.

that seems to make it even better deal.

  • +3

The amount of people I get that whine about their 24 month iPhone contracts…

    Who could honestly want this?

Your also locking into a contract that relies on Vodaphone being good for that long.

    • +1

lol - I still get to keep the phone if voda decides to go away ;)

      • Vodaphone isn't going away… its more their quality of service that is in question.

  • +7

not a good deal, got the samsung galaxy S2 for $29 a month… much better

    • +2

Agreed. As an iPhone 4 user…I got the Sammy S2 and it's an impressive bit of technology especially on $29/mth! But too bad, that deal is off.

Closest equivalent is the HTC Sensation XE.

  • +5

Here is how it turned out for me:

    What I will be paying:
    29$ Plan for 24 months+5$ handset free = $34 per month or $816 for 24 months.

What I get out of it:
    - iPhone 4 (32GB)
    - 3 month contract + handset fees wave off for moving from 3 to voda = $104
    - 1GB data on top of the plan for next 24 months (Social networking is already free)
    - Call everyone on Voda and 3 for free
    - network already upgraded in my area.

Best part was speaking to someone in Australia instead of overseas. The lady was polite and helpful. Wasn't in hurry to read me T&C.

I somehow cannot find a reason to complain about this deal so far. Rest I think I will only find with the time ;)

    • +1

For the second contract I will have to wait for galaxy S2 to come back on 29$ plan. Missed it last time :(

      • I signed up to that contract yesterday (transferring from 3, though). They were reluctant at first, but later agreed to the price, might be worth having a try.

        • What number to call to transfer from 3 to get that deal?

      • The $29 Sensation XE isn't bad too!

  • Looks fine but if you heard about $29+10 ($29+5 For 3 to V) for iphone 4s 32g, you may not say it's good. I've heard about lots of succeed cases for $29+5 from 3 to V. Mine is $29+5 for iphone 4s but only 16G based on V 2 V upgrade (Wavied last 4 months access fee on my previous $29 cap)

    • How would you negotiate this if you were a new customer?

    • you are a damn good negotiator then

  • Any idea if this would work, looking to sign up and receive this phone then get it unlocked via Vodafone (I believe its free or am i wrong?) and use it with my Optus SIM

Then pass on the Vodafone SIM to my old man who is a very light user and save him paying $20 or watever a month with his service provider

    • Yeah that will be fine.

    • Go for it!

    • Are you serious it is free to unlock? no way? what would be the benefit to vodafone? dont get me wrong I hope your right as i just got 1 LOL - I can easily slip the sim in my old phone and give it to the kids Nanna - can anyone confirm if this would be the case, if this is true please? cheers

      • +2

Yes all Vodafone post paidphones on contract are free to unlock. You still have to fulfill your part of the contract though, ie pay $34 for 24 months, therefore there is no disadvantage for Vodafone to unlock it for free.

        • thanks scotty thats great news, the contract is so cheap , about the price my mum is paying for prepaid anyway,it really is an incentive now, thankyou!

  • Rather get the iPhone 4 32gb with Telstra for $49 a month.

Advantages: much much much much better network
$450 talk and text, 1gb of data
Alot more talking and texting and data capabilities

Disadvantages: $15 more per month (obviously)

Oh, and free social networking as well (like it matters anyway, you're lucky to use 100mb in the whole month via social networking)

    • How do you get this from Telstra? Don't see it on their site.

      • +1

I work there, it's a below the line deal, not openly advertised (until now) lol. It's been the deal for like 3 months now

        • +1

Cheeky Telstra, it would not have killed them to advertise that.Seems like they just like less customers.

    • -3

I could have got a 32gb iphone 4 for $150 with telstra in december 2010, they had welcome credits offer and due to having homephone and foxtel it brought the $39 plan down to $29. i still regret not taking that up..

but now that there is so much competition im just waiting for galaxy s3 or better.

    • I posted the Sensation XE deal before Christmas and lately with all the BYO specials like redbull and woolworth, I just do not buy into these $29 special anymore and I even mention that in the Sensation XE deal post.

The problem is Vodafone do not adjust your handset repayment if you upgrade your plan within contract which in my opinion they should. Say if I find my usage to be higher and upgrade to $49 cap, they should wave the handset repayment from the month you upgrade.

I calculate my girlfriend's usage (which is quite low) in to their $29 plan and it is just barely enough. Vodafone is betting on you go over the cap or make plan upgrade but still have to pay high handset repayment to make money.

Unless U are really good in controlling your usage and welling to spend time checking usage, I strongly recommend you look no lower that the $49 cap. In this level, you will find that a BYO plan + outright phone will work out cheaper or about the same but you will not have to lock into a contract.

  • I read further on Vodafone's website and find this actually a pretty good deal. As they are almost giving the phone to you on interest credit and best is infinite 50 has the same handset repayment so wont cost you extra to switch plan, just more expensive line rental. Goo if you find the $29 cap not enough for u to use.

Just for price reference. Cheapest price I find for this phone on Staticice is $759.

  • anyone actually received their phone yet?

    • My friend actually did receive one. After 2 days. He applied for one on Saturday.

    • Not yet!

      Applied on Friday.

    • got my phone yesterday.
i was transferring from three to voda, and they promised me to waived the cancellation fee of the last few months of my three contract. the bill came in today and they charged me $170 cancellation fee. calling them up now. :(

  • Received my one yesterday woohoo!

  • I applied for 3 mobile plans on 16/12/2011 with the $100 voucher and I am still waiting for 2 devices. I call vodafone almost every day and nobody knows what is going on. I am very frustrated with Voda.

  • Update: All is fantastic with the iphone and service, but I have some guy who has called me a dozen times today looking for a person of obvious Lebanese background - its a bit over LOL now so I don't know what happened here but I guess I will have to call vodafone and get a new number. I have never had this happen b4 its weird but now a bit OTT creepy. I have the phone on vibrate to ignore the calls its getting ridiculous.

  • hi all,

just spent half hour with vodafone india =D

as hard as i tried the best deal i could get (24 month):

    iPhone 4s 16gb

    $29/month Cap
    $10/month handset charge

either i didn't ride the CSR hard enough or the $29+$5 for iPhone 4s 16gb (mentioned by idog8818) has expired.

    • Only 120 bucks extra overall to go to the newer version I think you did well :) enjoy the 4s mate.

  • I call twice, first time I was told my delivery address was wrong, then call again today and was told they are short of stock and will deliver within 5 to 7 days. Then just now some guy reply my web enquiry and said they have no stock and has cancelled my order???
Can they do that after they has complete and comfirmed my order?? I think it was a legally binding thing when I sign up online.
