    • They do need your number for an extra layer of security when making purchases. If my Afterpay password is compromised, no one can make purchases from my account without my phone.

      • Why mobile number, specifically?

This is a terrible form of "extra security". It doesn't work if you're out of mobile range but have access to the Internet. There are many ways to do "extra security" - but requiring a mobile number only is an invasion of privacy, nothing more.

but requiring a mobile number only is an invasion of privacy, nothing more.

Sigh, just buy a burner SIM?

          • @p1 ama: And what, slide it into a mobile phone I use, so the carrier can cross-reference my IMEI?

There must be other ways to buy reasonably priced CPUs that don't involve giving away private personal information to a payment provider that it doesn't need.

It's an Afterpay promotion. You don't have to buy?

  • Not sure what the difference is, same retailer.

One of them is the OEM skew designed for prebuilds with no warranty from AMD and the other is the retail version.

  • I would be all over a 5600x sale. Anyone know of one?

    • Still about $430.00 for prime members for purchases made through the au Amazon size via us vendor. Picked one up myself, as long as you don’t mind waiting a little longer, stock still avail currently.

$100 less than I paid for the 5800 a few weeks ago /cry

  • 5800X OOS

  • Sold out of 5800x.

  • Still holding on to my 1600 lol. Great price though

    • lol same. gonna wait till it hits sub 200 before jumping

    • But what will you do with the 1600? You should make it last longer, I'm upgrading from a Intel i5-2320 system I bought in 2013.

      • I meant that I'm still using it, not that I upgraded and am keeping it :P
I really want to upgrade but I'm locked by my x370 board to just the 3600, and it's not that big of a difference as it seems.

  • Holy Crapola that is cheap. Who would buy a Intel CPU when this is so cheap and the motherboards are really cheap too, you can buy A320's for under $60. Any intel HEX core with hyperthreading will cost a lot more when you add in the LGA1200 motherboard cost.

Took a year and a half, but a decent 3600 price finally happened.

    • Roughly exactly one year, if you look at camelcamelcamel.

      • I'm surprised by that - I don't recall it ever dropping so much but I did end up going the 3700x for $450 around the same time period.

Definitely would have gone a 3600 at that price instead.

Thanks OP, first purchase through Harris Tech, looking forward for the mobo to arrive.

      Which one did you get?

      • ASUS ROG STRIX 570-E.
Upgrading my gaming PC, will run a 5600x and other components on the way.

  • Cheers op, put in another price protection claim in for the 3700x with 28 degrees. Last cheapest price I had was $438.. have put about 5 claims in lol, built a PC last May during covid when everything was expensive and out of stock

  • Which cooler are ya'll with the 5800x using / any recommendations?

    • AIO X62 personal preference

    • 5800X is pretty efficient, I got a Hyper 212 RGB which is pretty quiet and keeps it in check. My 5950X is under a Noctua NH-D15 which is an absolute beast.

  • Anyone receive their 3600 without the full retail packaging?

    • Just opened up mine and the same thing as you

      • Cooler in a black box, CPU & sticker in a blister pack wrapped in bubble wrap?

        • Yup! Exactly the same

          • @huyn92: I sent them a message via eBay asking what's up. You'd expect to receive sealed retail packaging.

    • My 5800X came in full retail packaging.
