  • i’m still trying to get mine to connect to wireless, briefly goes to green led then back to orange, have, the app on my phone but how does it know which ssid amongst the many and then key for wireless?

    cooks rice without the app ….not as quick as some other brands but it is induction and there is no other induction rice cooker at this price point.

    • I've got a xiaomi home gateway and a few other appliances. Usually you have to add the device on the app, then it connects to the device and the device sets up its own wifi network. You connect your phone to the appliances SSID then the set up the appliance's wifi through the app to enable it to connect to your home wifi directly. I don't have this particular appliance but usually that's the procedure for the xiaomi devices I do have.

      I see you keep repeating this. That's not really a con, nor is it a pro for this or any device. If you want it to cook faster, use the fast cook mode. The standard/slow mode is there to allow time for the grains to absorb liquid at a slower rate.

    • I've got this rice cooker working after I changed the region to China and select Rice Cooker, but I can't add Air Purifier 3H into the list….bloody annoying!

      Hopefully someone could come up with a solution?

  • Seems like a good deal, but I've been using of the cheap rice cookers from Big W (currently 13 bucks) for years with no issues.

    What's the benefit of using an induction cooker over a standard machine?

    • Induction, from what I've read, gives instant and accurate temperature adjustments during the cooking cycle without having to wait for the element to heat or cool.

      depends on how picky you are about the consistency and doneness of your rice. my experience with a lot of cheap rice cookers has been that they create one hot spot in the centre of the pot which overheats the rice in that particular spot. Induction cookers will heat the entire container equally, and will respond to temperature adjustments from the controller much more quickly than a traditional heating element. Secondly, induction aside, more expensive rice cookers will use some kind of PID algorithm ("fuzzy logic") to increase heat smoothly and accurately, instead of bouncing up and down, overshooting then undershooting around a set average liek a traditional thermostat in a cheap rice cooker does. Thirdly more expensive rice cookers will usually have a heated lid plate or other mechanism to stop condensation gathering on the lid and dripping down onto the top layer of rice. lastly better rice cookers will have more settings for different types of rice, congee etc.

      You don't necessarily have to splurge on a smart induction cooker like this one, especially if you're not super picky about how your rice turns out. But if you see something like the panasonic SR DF-101 for 50-60 bucks on sale I'd recommend getting it. It's basic compared to some of the fancier rice cookers available in asia, but it has a higher quality cooking container and non-stick coating than the cheap ones, runs a fuzzy logic heating system and has a few basic settings that you'll likely find useful (white rice, brown rice, quick setting, porridge).

        • No worries.. The other thing I neglected to mention is the cooking vessels in pricier cookers are usually thicker and have higher grade coatings.. so should have a very long life especially if you avoid scrubbing them with anything abrasive. I think when I saw the xiaomi one in person in China a couple of years ago I think I remember the steel cooking vessel being pretty thick. Some of the more expensive cookers out there have inner vessels that are almost like cast iron cooking pots.

    • The inner pot gets scratched so easily that I have to replace after few months. Better buy a more expensive one.

  • Thx OP, was looking to buy this for a while for the Wi-Fi feature. Tried the Kmart one with Wi-Fi plug, but always damages the cooker.

          • @jv: lol…not really. we use it daily, using wi-fi is handy so I can turn on when starting home and its always fresh and ready.

              It's exactly the same thing as turning it on and off via the power point.

    - 1L rice

    Is equivalent to something like a 5.5cup Tiger Rice cooker.
