  • On the fence about whether or not this is worth doing. Trying to build up my Qantas points for potentially RTW ticket in the future, I should have approx 200k points if I churn another credit card. With the future of international flights in limbo dunno if it's a great idea. I've never purchased points before.

    • Yes, its somewhat of a gamble with a few variables, in particular if they devalue the points, change the redemption points needed & significantly reduce award availability.
I wonder how safe it is to buy the choice points (for the 40% bonus) & then leave them in the Choice program (which then gives you flexibilty on who to transfer to later?
Not sure if the choice points expire?

      • 18 months according to their website

        https://www.choicehotels.com/en-au/support/faq

        Will my points expire?
If you are an active Choice Privileges member, your points will not expire. To maintain your active member status, you must complete at least one qualifying activity every 18 months, or your points will be forfeited.

        • Hmmm.. a bit more risky unless there is an easy way to get "qualifying activity".
Sure sure if buying the minimum points in 17 months counts?

          • +1

@Gaz1: … of course this wouldn't work as the double QFF/Velocity points offer finishes on 31/3 (tomorrow).

  • Bad UX.

    • Balance doesn't show up (still 0 points after purchasing 252000 points with US$1782)
    • But transfer can happen (showing maximum 150,000 points available to be transferred to Qantas)
    • But after linking and transferring, there is no success message; the user is brought to the transfer form again without hints.
    • Attempt to transfer again, got told "no balance available", therefore the previous transfer should be successful.
    • Switch to Velocity, got told 0 points available - therefore the 150,000 points transfer limit should be per Choice account, not per airline membership.

Now holding the additional 102,000 points (imaginary - the system still displays 0 points) waiting for the next similar sale.
