I noticed this yesterday - good price and good phone.

    • +3

What an odd thing to say. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and have no issue fitting it in my pockets.

      • -1

Have you seen one? Way longer then a pro max.

        • +1

It's not. The pro max is only a few mm shorter.

        • +3

          LG Velvet : 167.2 x 74.1 x 7.9 mm
          S21 Ultra : 165.1 x 75.6 x 8.9 m
          12 pro Max : 160.8 x 78.1 x 7.4 mm

I have no issue pocketing S21 Ultra, in fact I think the Velvet is easier to slide in since it's thinner and narrower.

I think saying this phone need a handbag is over reaction.

    • +8

Get a handbag, be sure enough of your masculinity that you don't care what other people think. Between phones, wallet, earphones, handsanitiser, keys etc I'm starting to think women have outwitted us.

    • +4

      Stop wearing womens jeans then.

    • +1

A shame just implying gender to anything is just down voted because of that "social equality progressive blab" or whatever that's going around. The actual point of the opinion is not even bothered to be understood. Max's point is valid and some leaked marketing material from Samsung and LG over the years has shown phones to be catered towards women with naming and colors. The small foldable phone by Samsung wasn't designed to mimic a makeup case just by coincidence. The LG Velvet fits the profile of being catered towards women. This does not mean men cannot buy it and go about their life, but it doesn't change the product being targeted towards a specific gender.

      • Wait this phone only comes in black, white, and blue?
        Must be marketed towards men.

        -_-

  • -1

This or oppo find x2 lite? Both have same specs and can get it for 450 at good guys.

    • You can get this phone for $450 at TGG?

      • The Oppo

    • 0.4” smaller screen

    • Virtually the same specs except the oppo has 2gb more ram, however has a smaller screen and smaller battery. LG has traditionally been good on audio but that may not factor into your decision.

    • How do you get it for $450??

  • +5

LG has pretty bad quallity control. Will never buy any LGs.

    • +6

Had bad quality control - that was the LG G4 and LG V10/20 series. A lot of people got burnt and never went back. However, I have had the LG G6, LG V40 (which I just sold), and LG V50 with no problems.

      • +2

G4 was design more than QC though I recall

      • +8

Conversely, I've just moved on from my LG V20 after 4 years of heavy use. Probably my second favourite phone ever. Being able to buy a new battery and just pop it in is something that I'll miss forever now.

      • I bought a G8S. I'm picking up my third one tomorrow.

    • -1

Agree, never again unless this drops to $399.

    • My G3 was one of the worst phones I've used but the v30 was easily the best. I abused and bashed and smashed the v30. I never skipped a beat.

      • +1

        I never skipped a beat.

Yeah, You like that don't you!

    • That's unfortunate. I've had the LG V40 for near two years and I have no plans to get a new phone - the best I've ever owned.

    • -1

I would say the same thing about some of the older LG and Motorola phones. But things have changed since and I know many more happy customers around me, who use these phones. YMMV.

  • This or pixel 4a? Pixel only slightly more from the Telstra shop

    • +2

I suggest the pixel. I think the velvet is a good phone only if you get the accessories.

      • Thanks, looking at some reviews I think it's points that way.

    • +2

I own pixel 4a… Just be prepared to be completely underwhelmed if your current phone is a flagship (like a Sammy S etc etc)… Other than that good phone good camera and software… Everything else is just average 😊

Note: I can't speak re this phone, just my 2c on the pixel :)

      • Felt the same after I got my Pixel 4XL. 2 returns later I wish I never got it. Nothing but issues with my pixel 3 and 4xl..

      • Lol what else is the phone apart from good phone good camera and software? Mainly the camera I want it for, don't game, just web browsing, emails/calls/messages etc.

    • +2

Pixel and I'd say get the 4a 5G. But seriously, pixel.

  • The LG V50 has better specs. This is a downgrade.

    • +1

I've shattered the screen on my v50, now tossing up repairing, or cutting my losses and getting the pixel 4a 5g

    • V50 has better specs? Strange this is more recent.

      • Even the V60 has better specs. It seems the velvet is a lower budget device. I wonder if they'll keep making the V series, and use it as their flagship line?

  • +1

I can't see an afterpay option on either the velvet or the moto edge, meaning the big discount code won't work (want the latter, sick of LG's terribad updates)

eBay's afterpay page specifically lists categories where it isn't offered, and mobile phones is included —> https://www.ebay.com.au/help/buying/paying-items/paying-with…

So am I doing this wrong, or is this deal an error?

    • Usually (always ?) afterpay is shown as one of the payment options on the listing page and I can't find it here either.

      • +1

The deal for the Galaxy S20 FE has Afterpay as "may be available", but neither the LG or moto do and if I put them in the cart and try to check out, no Afterpay option so the code isn't accepted

Edit for clarity - the after pay option is there for the S20 FE - in the checkout but not the other two, even though they're all Mobilecity, so they must have an exception only for certain listings?

  • +3

Wish it came with the dual screen and I would be all over it :)

    • +4

agree, it's LG's only unique edge left over competitors, don't know what LG Australia were smoking deciding not to bring it in.

  • good deal

    • +2

Not sure. There's no afterpay available for this listing (I tried thru to checkout and someone else tried as well), so no idea how anyone is applying the afterpay coupon ??

  • +1

I've one and it's a pretty good phone. I wish the battery stayed longer, but not worried about it much as I'm working from home.

  • LGs audio quality has kinda gone down the gurgler with this phone yeah?
Shame because that was the highlight of LG

  • +6

People taking wide angle photos with their $2000 iPhone while LG G5 had a wide angle lens back in 2016. I remember my friends thought I carry a go pro in my pocket. LG was so innovative. They could be as big as Huawei or OnePlus if they been more consistent with everything they did.

    • My first mobile phone was an LG clamshell. This was back in 2003. It was a phone released for the Korean market (my brother-in-law works at LG in the mobile phone "department") and it had GPS and TV (useless on such a small screen though).

  • Not sure why it was expired? Plenty still in stock and coupon still active?

    • It ain't working for a bunch of us - did you actually buy it with this code?

  • I am not getting an option for Afterpay payment. Do I need to do anything extra?

    • Doesn't work for me either - wonder if there's some targeting of only some users thing going on, or if it is only on some phones but not this one (or the moto mentioned either)

I've used an Afterpay code + gift card payment before, this time Afterpay simply isn't there at all - but it is for a different phone through this same eBay store with this code (S20 FE)

  • LG's pulling the plug on mobiles. buy If this means nothing to you.

  • This or S20FE?
    Ignoring price difference

    • I have this, and would go with the S20FE if those were the two choices and if I was willing to spend more money on a phone.

  • pretty funny how most modern phones are bigger than the average guys' package

  • It's a very nice phone for the price but LG doesn't have a good reputation for long term support and they're reportedly considering canning the mobile division anyway. IMO, the best thing would be to take advantage of Samsung's preorder sales/gifts for the a52 5g (msrp $699) (rough equivalent) which will have much better long term support or wait for the pixel 5a.

  • LG locked bootloader so you won't be able to upgrade to custom ROM once they discontinued support.

Oppo Find X2 Lite is on sale for $499 at TGG is a better option and if you still have the Ultimate Home/TCN Home gift card from the last promo at Coles it is even cheaper.
    https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=10176&idPhone2=…

    • The LG V40 was released in October 2018 and I'm still getting updates (last updated 4 Feb 2021). So I guess they update for three years at least.

  • HELP.. i cant see afterpay as a payment option on ebay?

  • +1

Not keen on applying a neg, but coupon can't be applied - afterpay not available as payment option.

    • It worked when he posted it, so you basically negged the deal cause it expired.

      • +1

Did you even buy it ? It never worked for me since since initial posting (I tried to buy it yesterday). Others the same.

        • I loaded it into my cart and saw the price worked before this deal was actually posted, so yes it was working at some point I can confirm. Your comment was 16 hours after his post so you sure you did right away?

          • @Budju: Look in the comment history, redcreek and I were locked out within about the first hour of this being posted here

            • @smashman42: Missed the comment - oh well they must have been quick to remove the option for whatever reason.

              • +1

@Budju: They kept it on the S20FE way longer so could have been some stock level vs expected sales thing, maybe? Who knows.

      • Same, I came here from an email alert for the LG Velvet and there was no Afterpay option within about an hour of this post being created, as you can see from my comment above after trying to figure it out for ages

No-one offered any comment other than redcreek so I assumed everyone else was just looking at the pricing saying "nice deal" or whatever without actually trying to use the code and buy it

  • I think they removed the Quad DAC on this model which is a shame as that was a feature the top LG phones had over the competition.

    • They did remove it for this model. Only the v60 had it from their 2020 lineup but that didn't come here and the global version that supports our 4g bands is vapourware.
