I've been using this model since 2015. Paid $30 from MSY Kingsford back in the day for it. Its abysmal. I finally couldn't stand it and went out and bought a sony A5100 off gumtree for $300 last week and mounted above my main monitor on a pole. Just need to get an elgato camlink now and I'll have a pinnacle web cam experience for my PC setup.

    • Just grab a "HDMI video USB capture card" (there are loads of identical ones) off of eBay for 15 aud. It does the job for my a6000 and is a tenth of the price of an elgato. EposVox covered it in his vid titled "The cheapest capture card money can buy"

    • Depending on your needs, you can probably just use a cheapy HDMI to USB capture device like this one

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Portable-Camcorder-Definition-Acqu…

There should be a lot of similar models on eBay etc

      Also, see https://youtu.be/xVxkttO6shE

Obviously not as good as the Elgato ones.

You can take the Sony software for a spin and see how well that works before getting the Elgato.

A5100 looks supported to me. (The chassis model being ILCE-5100 I believe?)

    • I tried recording on my Canon 600D but it turn off automatically after 15 mins.
Any ideas on how to disable this?

Any good value HDMI video USB capture card?
      elgato camlink is too much.

      • There should be a configurable auto power off time in the first (spanner) setting menu. You want to switch it to OFF.

But if the sensor begins to overheat the camera will shut off anyway.

        • Thanks. DSLR may not be a good way to record long information sessions then (as the lens get hot)?
          Camcorder maybe better option.

Yeah man this is crazy, I've had mine since 2015 too, got it free with microsoft cashback deal and pricematching msy at officeworks.

Can't believe 6 years later it's still going for this much.
It's not like it was a newly released product in 2015 either.

    • Double post, please ignore.

  • Does the job for me for my normal conf calls.

Geeze they still sell these, I remember being paid $5 or $10 a unit to take them off the shelf (clearance product at JB Hi-fi and the old Microsoft cashback).

    • similar story here - I pricematched msy at officeworks

  • I found a free app the other day to just use my phone, and it's working better than my mates $200+ fancy streaming webcams atm

    • Which app out of interest?

      • +4

DroidCam. Need to download the app, and the desktop client, but then can use USB or wifi to connect, and I've just used a cheap phone stand to point it at me, and it's working perfectly

    • I own a copy of iVCam which is really good. The picture quality from recent phones is stunning. Unfortunately, I can't use a phone for an upcoming event and needed a very cheap webcam instead.

    • Does it work with Zoom?

      • +1

Yeah, it's worked with Zoom, Webex and Discord without issue so far.

  • I have one of these. It’s only 720p, decent enough for WFH. Mic is rubbish though.

  • These are junk but better than nothing

  • Tip: Use Nvidia broadcast to get some good options for your video/audio. Does require an Nvidia card though.

    "works with:

    Windows LIve
    Yahoo! Messenger
    AOL Instant Messenger
    Skype"

What century is this thing from? None of those things are still around except for Skype.

  • Good cam, got mine for free

I wanted to be 100% sure it works with Linux, and I don't have time to faf around.

      "Features

Only Support windows 98/me/xp,not support windows 7 or higher"

  • Anyone know of a good webcam for teams, Skype etc? My Elephone Ecam X 5.0 MegaPixels Auto Focus HD 1080P Webcam Built-in digital Microphone for PC seems pretty average, microphone is very faint for The recipients and doesn't even work when plugged into the rear mic port of the PC.
Still meaning to try some different Realtek audio console rather than the default Realtek drivers. Wasn't bad for 20$ but need something more professional, accept if they are $50-100.

  • Lifecam Still 35$ on umart, seems like an alright deal, comments not so great.
Are these good for teams and skype etc? It would still be better than an el-cheapo 1080p I assume?
What is recommended with decent mic and pic quality/?

  • logitech c930e or C922 or 960 (which comes with a tripod stand)?
    All similar price, cheers
