I will wait 6 months when price is less than 1000$. No rush

    • +7

You will be waiting more than 6 months. I have been waiting note 20 ultra price to come down which is over 6 months now. Has not even drop close to $1200.

      • i suspect that is because there is no note21 yet

    • Thats because in 6 months the next Samsung phone will be out, and it won't even drop that much.

  • +12

When you consider how much one uses their phone everyday and break it down to a per hour cost, $1500 for a phone actually works out to be the cheapest thing you will ever own.

    • +2

      nice try wife

      • +1

Your $1500 phone will certainly get more use than her $300 shoes.

        • get more use than her $300 shoes.

You mean to say she has to wear the shoes that more than once? Sacrilege!!

          /s

    • No. Its still expensive if you are changing phones every year.
Expeciallly if the phone is not working or broken down.

I understand if some1 writes their mobiles purchases through tax but other than that you should get premium like every 3yrs because phones do not change all that much.

    • +1

Glad you're not one of my employees

    • +1

Pretty sure my underwear still works out cheaper

  • Becexetech seem to have been offering this phone $100 cheaper than this as their regular price so doesnt look like a bargain.

    • +5

Becexetech is a horrible company though.

      • Did you look at their excessive shipping rates?

  • +5

Got a silver S21+ 256gb for $704 using trade-in offer on the edu store. I understand plus and ultra aren't the same phone but they aren't too far either depending on what you're looking for in the new phone. For less than half the price and double the storage and fairly similar specs, I'm not going to call this a deal.

Getting edu store access isn't hard - and with a $50 sign up bonus and $300 (plus your phone value) trade-in bonus makes any phone in S20 Note/S21 range cheaper than this deal.

For Exy vs SnapDragon commentators, embrace the change and come/try with an open mind. You won't be disappointed!

    • +1

I was confused while making the decision. I like the form factor of s21 plus. However I'm happy with better battery, camera, display and ram. I care about it but not a deal breaker for someone who is not a power user.

      • -3

The marginally larger battery on Ultra isn't going to better than plus due to the resolution on Ultra - you'll most likely get more SOT on plus. The screens on any S21 are very similar to the human eye - unless you go out of the way and pixel peep. Which even the tech geeks won't when they are getting their hourly fix of news/social media/gaming.

As for the camera, they are very similar for your usual daily shots. But if you pixel peep on creepy zoom shots, then the ultra wins.

The extra ram would probably come in handy at some point - but for daily average consumer (including power users), 8 gigs is zippy enough.

In short, you can have the same/similar phone (depending on your use case) for less than half the price. This is OzBargain - and an additional 4 gigs of ram and a fake zoom (which you'll rarely use) isn't worth $700+

        • and a fake zoom (which you'll rarely use)

What do you mean by fake zoom?

          • @eug: Well documented if you search the internet. And for an average user, it adds no value - it's just a marketing hype.

Do your research and if you feel you need the "space zoom" then sure, spend the extra 700 odd dollars :)

            • +1

I've compared the S21 Ultra to the S21 and the zoom is not "fake" - you do get far more detail.

I think I know what 'fake' aspect you're referring to. That is irrelevant - what matters is the results.

              • +1

@eug: Point taken. But I'd like to do the math for the OzBargain community.

How many 100x shots a day you reckon would make it worthwhile for an additional $700? Let's say the average user keeps their phone for 2 years.

                • +2

The S21+ is $1399 and the S21 Ultra is $1599. That's $200 extra. Even the smaller S21 is $1199 which is a $400 difference. Why are you using $700 for the comparison?

People with kids could find the extra zoom useful at every school game or performance. The memories alone could be worth the $200 difference to a parent who earns that much in an hour. Top-end phones aren't aimed at everybody.

                • @sacs2k1: I agree. How many 100x zoom photos will a person take in a year? Maybe 10.
                  Hahhahah

        • +1

Battery performance of s21 ultra is considerably better than s21 plus. Dynamic refresh rate varies from 10-120hz for ultra and 48-120 for plus. I know this is ozbargain, just don't make these type of fake claims.

Camera system in s21plus is same as that of s20 seriesm s21 ultra have brand new system.

@KILLERbOnD: Seems like you've spent too much time on YouTube videos/paid reviews.

But if your use case warrants the price difference and you can easily afford it, then sure. I don't see value for an average user like me. It's a no deal!

            • @sacs2k1: Thats what I told you in my previous comment- depends on your usage. Just don't say stuff without doing research. S21+ and ultra are very different. Even different compared to previous years plus vs ultra.

              • +1

@KILLERbOnD: Done my research mate. Just saying this isn't an OzBargain worthy deal.

If you really want to get an ultra - and as others in the comments have suggested - there are other ways to get it cheaper.

                • @sacs2k1: I din't but it for that price mate. I got 256gb for 1500 plus free wireless charger, and $100 worth of free stuff.

          • @KILLERbOnD: One big downside for the S21 Ultra compared to the S21 Plus is that the S21 Ultra has a curved display so you can't get a tempered glass screen protector that fits it properly.

            • +1

@Agret: You can get tempered glass screen protectors that use a UV-cure adhesive for curved-screen phones for a few dollars. They work well.

  • Is the Exy version any good this time around? I was not happy with my Exy S20, there was a material difference in performance, especially in thermals with the Snapdragon version. This makes the Exy version alot hotter and it throttled alot harder to keep temperatures under control.

    • +3

Very big improvement compared to s20 ultra- battery, performance and camera quality.

    • -4

For photography (my primary use case), the Exynos in the S21 Ultra was a steaming hot pile of crap.

      • +2

        I'm a product photographer

Me: hmm surely this isn't your work camera

For photography (my primary use case)

Me: Lol so you are a cowboy photographer…oof professionals would love you

        • -2

I didn't say it was my work camera. Nor did I say I was a photographer by trade. For everyone that says they're a runner or a painter/sculptor, do you ask for their Olympic Games records or current gallery showings?

          JFC.

Just block me, please. I'll do the same for you on my end.

    • +1

Exynos is good this time around, i've been hammering mine for about a week now & i haven't felt it get warm once. It has 2x the CPU & 3x the GPU performance of my old i5 laptop according to Geekbench 5 feels like it too

      • Hmm, wow, I'm considering it now, to replace my ROG Phone 3 which has a Snapdragon 865+.

  • +3

i have S21 Ultra and can confirm exynos is not as bad as some people think it is.

    • +1

Not now….but earlier! Exynos on S20 was horrible when compared to Snapdragon CPU.

      • Yeah but people jump on Ozbargsin and say Exynos is trash and never used one because they're repeating what they hear.

    • Exynos 2100 is great !

    • -6

Definitely as bad as I thought it was.

      (I'm invalidating your opinion)

        • I haven't an iPhone since the iPhone 4.

Stop being childish. Unless, of course, you are a child - in which case

  • c'mon mate, you can do that

I just saw someone who bought this from JB when i was picking up my xbox x.

  • For those who have access to Samsung education store, the S21 Ultra 256GB model is $1479.20.

Use newsletter coupon to reduce it down to $1429.20.

My crystal ball tells me that prices for the 128GB model will drop further from tomorrow, so if you're keen to buy it - wait until then ;)

    • +1

      [eBay Plus] Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 128GB - $1,438.19 using code: PLUSET10

    • I can see the 128GB variant is $1479.20 but the 256GB variant is still $1559.20.

      • 256GB prices have all increased as the rebate ended yesterday

  • It sucks they arent dual sim otherwise i would jump on it.

    • +2

They are dual SIM. But one of them has to be an esim

      • Interesting. Never really looked into esims, just kept reading people complain that we don't get dual sims in the Samsung Galaxys. Still a bit unclear as to whether I can just change my non plan telstra sim to an esim.

        • +3

Pretty sure you can. I changed mine to an eSIM a while back but decided to switch back to a physical SIM as it would be a hassle to get a replacement if I damaged my phone. For some reason Telstra deployed eSIMs with physical QR codes that you had to get from a shop - so if I was overseas and damaged my phone, I can't switch to a spare phone as I would need to go to a Telstra store to get another QR code.

Fortunately they got rid of that ridiculous system and you can now download eSIMs through the Telstra app. I don't think the new Upfront plans support eSIMs at the moment though, they should be supporting it again soon.

  • -2

Not a deal because the 256gb is cheaper on the Samsung education store for $1429, still I will wait till the 256 to drop to around 1000-1200

  • About 6 months JB HiFi staff told me that they could match the price with Samsung education store. Has anyone tried?

    • -1

Why don't you try because the staff told you? And then let us know please!

    • -1

Ask them to stack staff discount while you're at it

    • +1

I don't get why someone neg me for the comment. I was in store for Telstra deal back then and was advised the above. Thought this comment could help some people if they were interested in price match with Samsung education store.

      • +1

Have an upvote on me. Good comment, asking to price match is always worth a shot if someone's looking for a bargain.

      • Don't worry, on OzB sometimes people drop a neg just because they had a bad day. :)

    • +1

I tried but they said they don't match any more both samsung and Apple to me.

  • +2

979.20 after Epp discount, $450 credit for iphone 7 plus trade in, plus $50 code for the 256gb. Free express shipping. How could I say no.

    • Better say no and buy non epp..you could buy the same for $699 after $650 credit plus $200 code from chatting to an agent plus 50

      • isnt 200 code applicable to s21 only not ultra

        • Workes for all models aperantly..

      • what is this $200 code from chatting to an agent thing? is there a script to follow? and is it still active?

also, $650 credit varies from phone to phone right? what phone did you trade in to get that amount?

  • -2

Can find many brand new s21 ultra for $1200-$1300 in ebay

  • They really need to match the $500 trade up bonus from Samsung
