I don't mind grey market, but I do mind DWI

      • As posted in other articles regarding DWI, it seems that they are pretty good with their camera section. Just avoid their phones/tablets. I haven't heard many tales of problems regarding cameras and accessories?

ive been reading about their mobile phone/tablet sales recently and i cant comment on their quality/service regarding that.

However, I have bough multiple lenses from them (amounting to around 2k across 3 lenses) and they have been solid. Granted, i havent purchased since they have started selling mobile phones/tablets so not sure if this has had an impact on the camera business.

I can vouch for DWI being legit. Ive ordered around $3k worth of stuff in one purchase and it got to e in 3 days. Also got a Galaxy note from them, 3 days also.

They do dodge up the value listed on the invoice on the box to prevent paying tax over $1000

        • DWI is legit. That's not the point tho. for lenses etc you want warranty to check for decentering or myriad issues.

If you get stuff from a place like DWI, and all goes fine, it doesn't tell you much.

It's when something goes wrong, such as a dead on arrival product, that you get to see how reliable they are. For that price difference, I would rather an Australian manufacture's warranty - and, if in right state, a place I could walk into if it arrvied DOA.

  • How much after the introductory price?

  • Ouch. That cost as much as my body. As an amateur photographer I prefer to use a $70 YN467 Yongnuo speedlight. It clearly isn't as good as whatever this, but it works fine. When using it as a bounce flash, I often need to dial my ISO up to 800, but the new sensor on the D3100 is quite happy at 800, and I don't really like to flood rooms with light if I don't need to. My camera instructor suggests that a YN560 would have been a better choice, which lacks TTL (something he suggests we don't use) but has a much more powerful flash.

Anyway, presumably this is good deal for people who want to spend hundreds of dollars on a flash. But, don't keep using the crappy built-in flash in your camera because you think you need to spend this kind of money to get a real speedlight. Correction, don't keep using your built-in flash full-stop; natural lighting will probably look better than built-in flash :P.

    • If you want TTL and power, the YN565EX is the way to go. Double the price of a YN467, but still a lot cheaper than Canon/Nikon.

I used to think like that, I know what I am doing. this all changed when I bought my first 580EX flash. it easy to predict how to set up a flash & reflectors in the studio. But when I need the flash most it out and about, 580EX has saved the day so many times. Its sometimes wrong but the "smarts" work well with my camera. I have used the sb900 also a brilliant flash and I even go Nikon down the road (may depend on what the Canon 3D/5DMKIII releases are like this year)I will definitely be getting one of these.

Totally agree.. can't compare the Yongnuo stuff to Canon/Nikon. Can understand using Yongnuo to save money if doing strobist type stuff, but I would trust the 'crappy built in flash' on my DSLR more than Yongnuo. I got two Yongnuo flashes and triggers to use wireless.. and the quality just isn't there. By all means, good to play around with, but I would never want to rely on them.. and from my expeirence of one of them only getting super hot to touch when in use (the body, not the flash head) I wouldn't want to even attach one of these to my DSLR.

I had the yongnuo triggers suddenly die on me during a recent holiday.. thank goodness I had the CLS between camera and SB-800 to fall back on or a whole shoot would have been messed up.

    • I can second the recommendation of the $70 YN467 Yongnuo speedlight.I'm amazed it works so well at this price.

If you're a professional photographer, you may want to look elsewhere, but for a hobbyist that only takes occasional photos like myself, the Yongnuo is fantastic. It has a pretty bright flash and works great with TTL on my Nikon D5000

I got mine for $80 something dollars, with a diffuser cover included.

  • I'm still on the lookout for a good deal on the Canon S100.

  • So this SB910 would explain the pricing on the SB900 from that other place…

What's new on the SB910 from the unit it replaces? Aside from including a thermal sensor and it having a stubbornly backward incompatible system of coloured white-balance correction filters?
