  • For a 4K 27" monitor its a good price.

FYI not ideal for gaming but would be good for productivity.

    Response Time
8 ms (normal); 5 ms (fast)

    • Ahh cheers for that, slipped my mind when I was writing up the description.

      • All good :)

    • The non ultrasharp is really where the money is at of you're a non creative after a great 27" 4k monitor and aren't a Hz junkie. The extra $400 is really worthwhile if you want the ultrasharp goodness. (the built in usb c Dock is a nice, but for $400 there are alternatives!)

      No it isn’t.

It may be a reasonable price for an Dell Ultrasharp 27inch IPS 4K monitor but not a 4K monitor in general. You can buy a 32inch Dell VA 4K for less than $400 and it’s pretty good.

      • +2

Yeah not looking at VA as you're not comparing Apples to Apples.

      • +2

You can get a 4k 27inch ips monitor easily for $400
What you are paying for here is essentially the addition of a usb-c

      • Yep. I bought my Samsung UR55 (I think that’s the model) 28” 4K IPS for about $500 this time last year, and the other monitors including Phillips with use the same panel were around the same price. I’ve seen them go for a low as $380 or something lately. Yeah there you go, Centrecom:

        https://www.centrecom.com.au/samsung-ur55-28-4k-3840-x-2160-…

It’s a good monitor, I’ve been very happy with it and would definitely question whether I need to spend twice as much for a Dell.

    Sock puppet?

    • perhaps

People pay $1500 for a 34 ultrawide while there are other models for $500… always there is a reason for that…

  • This or U2721DE for photo editing?

    • -1

depends if u need the usb c for photo editing.

      • They both have USB-C, I don't understand what are you referring to?

  • +1

USB Hub and USB-C with 90w PD makes this perfect companion for a Macbook with only one cable connecting data, power, and audio/video

  • I mean does this monitor have much better colour accuracy than other 4k displays that are like 300 less.

    • +4

I mean yeah. It's factory calibrated for ∆E<2 with report in the carton. Waste of money if that's gibberish to you.

    • Short answer: No

  • Only get this if you need the USB-C otherwise can get same quality for around $400

    • Hi I am a casual photographer doing a bit of editing. Do you have a recommendation for around the 400 mark? I recently read a Monitor review and this model came up on that list.
      Cheers

      • +1

I don't do photo editing so unsure how much details you want.
but if you are not using the usb-c practically any 4k ips monitor will do.
        example:
        1. centrecom: samsung-ur55-28-4k-3840-x-2160-uhd-ips-freesync-monitor around 400

        1. amazon au: LG-27UL600-W-HDR400-FreeSync-Monitor around 400

There are lots more, you just need to find out the specs you need and then google the specs

        • Thanks for that will do a review of the specs. Cheers

@Movember20 how about the Dell S2721Q (or QS if you want more stand control).

        • Thanks I will take a look at that option as well.

  • Good for M1 MacBook Air?

    • Yes!

      • Can you just use the MacBook trackpad and keyboard with it? I already have a 2015 27” iMac so don’t want another keyboard, mouse.

        • Yeah you can keep the laptop open and use the trackpad and keyboard with the monitor (or any other monitor), but I don't know if that would be a great experience in general

        • yes you can use the trackpad, it is very easy to lose the pointer in 4k res, let alone dual screen with your M1 MacBook Air/Pro
have a graphic tablet or mouse handy

P.S. using dual 4k displays + MacBook Pro in clamshell mode

Though be aware of compatibility issues with the new M1 Mac Mini.
      From https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/mac-mini (Feb 23, 2021) -

"Due to numerous complaints of compatibility issues and Dell's unwillingness to offer support to those affected, all Dell monitors have been removed from our list of recommendations for the time being and until the situation is resolved. "

  • seems like the perfect minimalistic screen to go with the m1. Lets me get rid of the power brick charger, the hub, and 4 cables.

Only problem is what do I do with my u2713hm. Still going strong.

    • I run both the u2713hm and this u2720q on PC… They work together well… This one is noticeably lighter and the thinner bezels are great.

Really dates the 2013 model in terms of physically, but the image of the 2013 is still solid (I hardware calibrate both though). Had to go 4K for some video editing work.

      • I am on U2713H as well but lately having a problem with AMD iGPU, the colors look washed out in the sRGB emulsion mode. But they look okay in Adobe RGB mode. This was not the case before with Intel iGPU. What to do?

        • Sorry I just noticed this message… Have you tried a hardware calibration tool?

          • @msze: I do not have any such tools. but the monitor was working fine with my old X230 laprtop, so why is it behaving this way now?

            • @UncommonName: Sorry, I wouldn't know and it's hard to say if it's a hardware fault. You could try asking in the Dell forums, perhaps.

              • @msze: Well, that monitor has shat the bed last week. I think the USB-C to display input killed it.
