First in before abuse about how NIS is crap and that MS's FREE internet security is lightyears ahead.. ha!

    • +1

Then comes the "common sense = no need for antivirus at all" argument!

      • -5

well people can do whatever they wish, but those that slag off paid anti-virus/spam etc when they've only used the free stuff is a bit shortsighted. Once you tried decent paid AV software you'll realise how much more it picks up. I've never seen any 'free' AV software at the top of the detection charts. Yes, free av software works but its marginally better than nothing at all..

In my opinion, NIS is crap, my TAFE has it with latest update but it didn't pick up the USB virus
which I found in the computer. The virus passed to my USB and I had to delete it manually.

  • Is the price for the 3 pc version?

    • No, "One Year License for 1 PC/User"

    • Scroll down for more licences, $44 bucks for 3.

Lets be responsible here - any antivirus is better than no antivirus, especially to those not as tech-savvy as some of us. $24 is a good deal.

Unfortunately the site looks a bit dodgy.

why pay for an anti-virus program? you can get a much better free one…
    MS Security Essentials

The site is blocked by Norton Internet Security

I helped a mate buy and set up a new box after Xmas.

The very first thing I did after switching it on was download and install Microsoft Essentials.

The very next thing I did was download and install Revo Uninstaller, and use it to get rid of the hated Norton bloatware.

Norton AV is not a bargain at any price.

    • To be fair I've heard that norton have really stepped up their game and have a pretty low profile AV now (gaming mode or something?). But I would still NEVER pay for anti-virus software, MSE is a great client with a decent memory footprint.

That being said the whole common sense argument is true & I've lived without an anti-virus for years, it's just the random people that come and plug a usb drive in or the unpatched exploit on your pc when you're browsing some dodgey website that gets you.

    • Good for you, that is your opinion.

Let's concentrate on the actual deal ~75% off the list price, which is pretty darn good for any bargain!

      • But is a bargain really a bargain at any price when free alternative(s) are better?

  • +1

Thanks for that. I was just about to go with the e-store 3-user NIS deal for $68 plus $10 delivery. $44 for a 3-user retail box plus free delivery plus an emailed CD key and a download link so you don't have to wait is a bargain.

Yeah, I know you can get something for free but I've got better things to do than making sure all the windoze PCs in the house are up-to-date. Anyone who thinks the words "Microsoft" and "security" in the same sentence is not a joke needs to look at their history.

Be interesting to see if the Norton $20 rebate works.

    • I visited their website mentioned cashback in the title description.
Looks cashback is eligible, otherwise they should refund it to us. I found the 360 version is good ($88 and cash back), makes $13 after tax and cashback claim.

      • Thanks for the reminder about tax. I keep forgetting to claim for AV software even though my employer requires up-to-date AV software as a condition of remote access.

I actually liked Norton and thought about switching back to it but they have this stupid annoying whatever Sensor problem embedded in their AV that generates a bunch of false alarms. It deletes a bunch of 'suspicious' BUT LEGIT 3rd party apps without giving me a chance to save it, good job losing a potential customer with this absurdity.

  • Just another Good point with Norton, the "Norton Online Family" is great.

    A big positive from me:

They emailed the NIS CD key and a download link about two hours after I ordered and paid with paypal. Download, unpack, install and registration all went without a hitch.

The Norton rebate site accepted all the details for the $20 rebate.

$24 for protection for 3 PCs for a year works for me.

    • Isn't the $24 version for 1 PC / 1 year only?
