  • Anyone here use this…

I have a Nighthawk R7000P router that doesn't reach one part of the house.

    • Can't speak to this brand or model but I setup a rangextd model at a friend's house recently and it worked pretty well. This model is visually similar, same led placement but with the additional of external antennae. Most of the below should be applicable if not the specifics

3 floor townhouse with tplink wifi/modem on ground floor with poor to no signal in top floor Bedroom. Set this up on 1st floor and it did provide decent signal to 1st and 2nd floors

If WPS is enabled (and to be honest I wpuld always disable this on my own equipment) it was as easy as plugging the extender in, setting the switch to repeater mode, reading signal strength on the led meter, press wps button on router, then pressing wps button on extender and after a minute it was working. Comes with its own basic webserver with very basic config options

Downside is that it presents as a new network eg homewifi and homewifi_ext. I'm not sure how easy roaming is to use or configure or if you have to switch networks manually but for my friends kids they were happy just to have wifi

Do yourself a favour and purchase a mesh system or Unifi APs.

      • Any recommendations?

        • I need more info. How fast is your internet speed? What type of nbn? How much do you want to spend?

          • @Twix: NBN 100 (at the moment) HFC - around $200

Only had the Nighthawk a few months and get great speeds in most of the house but it's an old double-brick so right at the front of the house the coverage is very low.

            • @beebul: Double brick can be tricky. Replace the Nighthawk with a Deco M5 or keep the Nighthawk with wifi disabled and purchase a Unifi U6 Lite.

@Twix: Thanks for that - I will do some research 👍

  • Seems like regular price. What's the discount?

    • $79.99 is the regular price.

      • Only 6+ months ago. $59.99 has been the norm since.

I tried using an extender, didn't do much for me. the connection was unreliable and dropped out frequently. Might just look into a better router or an access point.
