  • For $100 or less you can get good guitars second hand on Gumtree.

Just save up and get the Yamaha FG800, it is well worth it if you want to learn. Much better to have a good quality instrument which you will appreciate rather than buy cheap rubbish which frustrates you.

    • As a teen i don't have that much expendable. I'm kinda tight at a $200 budget.

      • Would recommend second hand. You'll get a better guitar than this for $100!

        • A second hand guitar is a good idea. However a true beginner might have a difficult time of it. That being said I checked Facebook marketplace for guitars near me and there were 5 acoustics at $50 in the first few results. Avoid getting a 3/4 size guitar unless you're small. Play the guitar and make sure it sounds nice, and nothing is cracked or falling off.

    • Cant agree with this more, spend that little bit extra and have a guitar that is either re-sellable or will last decades if looked after.

  • This isn’t awful for something with what appears to be a solid top but I’d be a little concerned about the workmanship and quality of parts. It might play but you’d probably get more enjoyment out of a slightly more expensive Artist guitar or maybe even a cheap Fender acoustic

  • Subtle differences in the feel can make a big difference to playing, especially around the fretboard and comfort

  • I have some experience with learning an instrument. Best to go for a well-known brand. A basic model from a well-known brand should be sufficient for beginner.

A bad one from some unknown brands will likely frustrate you and cause you to quit learning.

    Davie504 wouldn’t approve of this

    • Who's that?

      • A guitar/bass youtuber

  • This is junk , buy a 2nd hand Yamaha.

  • With guitars you get what you paid for - cheaper guitars tend to be difficult to play (which, as a beginner would make playing less enjoyable). For instance the frets can be uneven, or sharp and the sound may not be optimal.

That said, if you want to experiment, then a chepaer guitar would work. I got my first guitar ($100ish Monterey guitar) that I use as a test bed for experience and experiment (changing the tuner etc). It is now acceptably sounding, though nowhere near a proper guitar. If thia is similar to what you are planning to do to your guitar, thia kogan one might work.

  • Someone else has already said it but Artist Guitars are incredible value for money. If you're a beginner they have good quality instruments for a great price.
