    This is not a good price at all.

    First, the regular price of this cheese sits around the $69/kg mark.

    Second - it’s - like so many cheeses in Australia - hideously overpriced with good reason. No, it’s not because of the costs of buying it in. It’s 1/3 RETAIL in Europe. And, no, it’s not because of the high cost of transport. Aldi’s Le Pave is a similar high fat/low aroma type cheese (it’s actually a bit better) and costs around $25/kg or so. Unfortunately currently unavailable at the Aldis I checked.

    Edit: I just saw the claim that this was ‘one of the most famous white mold cheeses in the world’. This is utter rubbish. D’affinois is all fat and nothing much else. No one who has eaten a bit of a variety of cheeses would place it close to an aromatic brie of whatever provenance.

    Long sorry short: This offer is not a bargain.

        They are, they just don’t know it yet.

    • Chiming in on a side note, there are aussie businesses that are experts in doing something this in the tea area. They get their goods from Japan which are of decent quality and apply hipster marketing and markup. Usually it's tea. They don't tell you which prefecture or farm it comes from or what grade their tea is, but the label looks so fancy!

      You will see their ads on instagram. Yes they do this with chinese tea too. They wrap the tea cake with their hipster wrapper and it's an upmarket product.

    You can easily get this for $75kg in fresh wedges at most decent supermarkets.

    And it’s better like that, instead of this boxed stuff.

    +1 had one of these and my partner and I agreed it was mediocre.

    Can get from Harris Farm (NSW) for $6 per 150gms - $40/kg.

    I like this cheese, but regularly buy it from local deli for $49kg on special.
    otherwise, local coles has these little boxed ones for $8-$10

    I am intrigued by the claim that this cheese can be frozen - is that a thing? I've never frozen soft cheese- blues/bries etc.
    anyone tried this?

    • Yes, I have been doing this for a long time. Not a cheese aficionado though. When Coles/Woolies have wedges of cheese on discount (usually close to best before date), I get a few, some for eating, and some go straight into the freezer. Have done this for blues/bries etc.

      • Can you still eat it after, or is it now cheese to be melted into food eg. lasagna?

        • Oh yes, I have eaten them many times after defrosting naturally to room temperature. I have tried with all the soft and fruit cheeses.
          Cheese connoisseurs will probably be able to tell some difference. But to me, it is very acceptable, any difference from before freezing seems minor. That said, I do like cheese in cooking, so a lot of them (except fruit cheeses) do go into cooking – like soups, etc.
