  • Cheers op.. Mrs nekro might order 1

Why not save it as an anniversary gift?

  • Thanks Ops.
Just in time that my old Dyson died.

    • If it's a stick model it's worth checking if the battery has just died, they can be sourced pretty cheap on Amazon/eBay.

      • Nah, it's the old one. DC47.
I tried to clean the filter - but somehow it still doesn't suck that good anymore.

If you're on the fence, DO IT. This thing somehow makes vacuuming enjoyable.

Anyone had success changing battery on these models? I have a V8 animal that’s about 4 years old and the battery life on the MAX setting is terrible - only get about 10 minutes out of it.

    • Not this exact model, but I have replaced a dead genuine Dyson stick battery with an eBay special in the past and it's still going stronger than the original 4yrs on. Very straightforward to replace.

      • Can I ask which battery on ebay you bought? My Dyson battery keeps dying

        • Run a quick search eBay or online for "replacement Dyson <insert your model here> battery" and you'll find plenty. Generally speaking, the higher the mAh the longer the battery life :)

I'm not sure exactly which battery I bought as it was years ago. At any rate, most models have a slightly different battery so this may not have been useful information.

@vanZwalker: Be careful when ordering replacement batteries that are rated at higher capacity than the original. Dyson specifically uses lower capacity batteries to prevent overheating the motor. I believe some of those higher mAh ratings for third party batteries are made up, but it's worth sticking with something closer to the original.

if you look at the specs in the description the max power mode only gets 7 minutes so your 10 is better than expected

    • MAX mode at 10 minutes is pretty good?

Not sure if your V8 is the same as this one, but the description for this says "Switch between Max mode for up to 7 minutes of high power"…

10 means your battery still strong

    • Try Makita instead. They make a range of vacuums using their standard 18V batteries, and they are in the business of making professional tools. They also make commercial vacuums.

      • I am invested in the Makita ecosystem but unfortunately their stick vacuums are very basic. They don't make one comparable to a Dyson V8 (or even V6) or higher. The maximum suction power of Makita DCL282FZ is 60W while Dyson V8 is 115W (V11 pumps out an impressive 185W). Also Dyson has motorised heads which really make a difference.

    • Had the same issue with a 2~ year old V8 - messaged Dyson (out of warranty) and then sent me a genuine replacement battery for free. Unfortunately I'd already bought a replacement generic, but now I've got 2 at least.. Try that first though, you never know.

      • through their online chat or facebook ?

        can't find any email

    • They only advertise battery life as 7 minutes on MAX mode. If you're getting 10 minutes, doesn't sound like the battery needs replacing.

Silly question - how does the dyson compare with xiaomi in terms of suction power? Is it significantly more powerful?

    • +2

Xiaomi does not suck as good as Dyson

      • My new Dreame v9 shits all over my old Dyson V6 Animal, for half the price. More suction, feels sturdier, and filters the air coming out a lot better than the Dyson.

No way I would be going back to buy a Dyson…..over priced, engineered to fail, pieces of crap.

  • thanks OP ordered one. Have been looking for V8 or V10 deals for quite some time and was so let down with the end of year deals. Settled for this one in the end!

Price match with JB and use discounted gift cards if you have access to them. Eg Suncorp rewards.

    • Why not just buy discounted DJ gift cards and buy from DJ?

      • +1

Because I don’t have access to them.

According to the OzBargain gift card page only Australian Unity offer discounted DJ gift cards at the moment.

Majority of people have far easier access to discounted JB gift cards.

  • 7 minutes? Are these just for cleaning up spills or something? Genuine question. I just replaced my Miele corded vacuum with an Electrolux corded bagless for 350, should I have considered this vacuum? Again just curious, I can't see this as anything other than a toy with that battery life!

    • +2

You should really read the description more carefully.

  • For normal use you don't use MAX mode. Battery life is much longer than that in normal mode.

  • Do these have a HEPA filter? I can't see that anywhere and advised it's a must for my kids allergies.

    • From the description:

      Whole machine filtration
Captures allergens and expels cleaner air.

      It doesn't specify HEPA though.

  • This or the Xiaomi Dreame T20?

    • Xiaomi if your not worried about being able to get spare batteries in 2-3 years time.

Dyson batteries very easy find replacement even years later

    Cheers OP!
