I could do with another PhD, thanks…

    • Year 11 chemistry. Which dodgy institution did you attend?

  • Good deal,

although cheaper in mektronics if you buy 5 litre. $31.90 + shipping (free shipping for order at least $150)

  • Anyone seen this in any Perth store? Need some for my 3d printer bed!

    • +1

North or south of the river? I know a place south of the river that is cheaper than bunnings.

      • +1

North here and interested! Need to stock up.

My usage : cleaning bicycle disc brakes without leaving oil residue. Less harsh than brake cleaner which occasionally eats paintwork.

        • +2

Automotive Paint Tools & Equipment Cannington, sells 1lt for $13. Not sure on the cost for different volumes. Also you could ask about other solvents as some maybe more suited for cleaning, Wax and grease remover may work.

        • Dip and clean in kerosene, the thin oil residue protects the chain from rust. The kerosene can be stored and reused again and again.

If you want oil free then dip in any citrus or water based degreaser.

Keep the expensive alcohol for lockdowns.

    • Use metho to clean the print bed, works the same and is much cheaper

are you able to get drunk with this?

    • +17

      Possibly short-term before death

    • +3

If you like losing your eyesight before dying deliriously, then yes.

      • +3

        Isn't that methanol?

        • +1

          You are correct:

"Drinking too much isopropyl alcohol can lead to alcohol poisoning. Rubbing alcohol poisoning symptoms will begin 30-60 minutes after consuming the substance. Symptoms of alcohol poisoning include:[3]

          Sedation
          Vomiting
          Diarrhea
          Dehydration
          Headaches
          Dizziness
          Low blood pressure
          Difficulty breathing
          Severe abdominal pain
          Shock
          Respiratory failure
          Internal burning sensation
          Unresponsiveness
          Hypothermia
          Coma

Left untreated, alcohol poisoning from isopropyl alcohol can lead to renal failure, heart attack, seizures, organ damage, bladder rupture, and even death."

          • +2

@FabMan: Yep. So much more agreeable than Methanol symptoms. Rather have bladder rupture than loss of eyesight.
            I'm in.

          • @FabMan:

Drinking too much isopropyl alcohol can lead to alcohol poisoning

Drinking too much alcohol can also lead to alcohol poisoning. Does it being isoprophyl alcohol make it more poisonous?

          • +4

            @FabMan:

            Sedation
            Vomiting
            Diarrhea
            Dehydration
            Headaches
            Dizziness
            Low blood pressure
            Difficulty breathing
            Severe abdominal pain
            Shock
            Respiratory failure
            Internal burning sensation
            Unresponsiveness
            Hypothermia
            Coma

Sounds like a standard night out, then.

I use this on my eye glasses! Helps my eye sight.

    • +3

      You can… once.

    • Tastes like Baijiu… I don't recommend it.

  • +1

Wish this was in Sydney, great deal

  • Nice cleaning agent… windows, screens, blinds, vinyl dolls etc

    • +5

Just don't use it to clean your TV or computer screen.

      • Probably a dumb question: why?

        • +1

It might remove the coating on the screens i guess.

    • windows, screens, blinds, vinyl dolls

      :o
One of those things is not like the others…

  • +3

For those in Western Syd and can pick-up from Penrith - https://www.sydneysolvents.com.au/solvents/isopropyl-alcohol…
    IPA 100% 1L $10, 5L $29.30, 20L $80
They also do diluted to 70% for the same cost if you're lazy

    • +2

I like the one from Sydney Solvents as its the same price but 100% pure as opposed to 99% at bunnings

      • +2

I think it will be technically "up to 100%".

As soon as you open it, it will draw in some moisture from the air.

  • 5L here for $30 https://lebeauty.com.au/products/100-pure-isopropyl-alcohol-…

Same as previous deal from Catch

    • $9.95 shipping(unless you spend $49+)
& it'll take a long time to get through 5L

      • Was free shipping at catch

        • So not same deal then?

          • @Love a bargain: The product is the same. If you used the search function you'd see the previous deal through CATCH

            • @teacherer: same product but different deal/ offer = not the same deal

              • @Love a bargain: Where did I say it was the same deal? I was talking about the product.

                • @teacherer:

Same as previous deal from Catch

                  • @Love a bargain: Yep same price and product :)

                    • @teacherer: Shipping is part of the equation

                      • @Love a bargain: Not in the previous deal from catch :)

                        • @teacherer: I'm not sure what you're trying to argue here. The matter of the fact is that most on here would consider price + shipping, rather than just the stated price, as the true cost when comparing deals.

                          • @Love a bargain: Was recalling the price of isopropyl alcohol previously.
                            Much like…
                            - browser
                            - Fastzoomzoom
                            - hymio
                            -sgood114
Not sure why you seem to have your knickers in a knot.
                            Don't like my comment.
                            Move on.

                            • @teacherer: Everyone else are talking about currently attainable deal, whereas you're stuck in the past.
Anyway, I'm not sure why I bother talking to you since you're never gonna get it.

                              • @Love a bargain: Some people like to know the price history of products to know how long they've been in the past.
Clearly you don't, but that's okay.

It is a wonderful cleaning product but it can dissolve certain things, so check first. I clean electronics with this, and get rid of flux residue also.

I pour isopropyl into a spray bottle and distribute via that, prevents from over use for me.

  • Anyone else watch The Retro Future ? 😆

  • This or Scotts? 🙃

Isopropyl Alcohol is sooooo March 2020

Very useful for cleaning. Especially on electronics, PCB, etc. Also good for surface cleaning before applying adhesive.

Bought a 250mL spray bottle from Dick Smith in 2006, $7.70 back in the dates. Still have half bottle.
