Reading the agreement for it makes me weary… is this a trial?
    "Special Note
The KINGSOFT OFFICE PROFESSIONAL 2012 EDITION [“Product”] under this Agreement is a charged product. But before you pay the license fee for the “Product”, there is a one-off 30-day free of charge trial period (from the initial date when you install the “Product” on the unique computer of which you have the ownership, hereinafter referred to as the “Trial Period”) for each unique computer ID. Once the Trial Period expires, if you want to continue to use the “Product’, the precondition is that you must agree and accept all articles of the END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT OF KINGSOFT OFFICE PROFESSIONAL 2012 EDITION [“EULA”] and pay the license fee according to the price policy stipulated and announced by Kingsoft in its absolute discretion subject to adjustment from time to time. The license term of the “Product” under the EULA shall be subject to the license fee you’ve paid for the “Product”."

    • Yes, I suspect it IS a Trial version…

Title says: Free DOWNLOAD… NOT Free license (for downloaded install of S/W)

Until OP clarifies concretely… I say:

      • NEG… it's not a deal if only a Trial Ver.

      OP…?

      • GOTD usually releases stuff fully-licensed but everytime they do you have a 24-hour window to install it.

      • I second that. I have a long history of using GOTD website, ALWAYS are full versions.

That said, the 'disadvantage' is that you won't get any product updates. Think of it as like a 'getjar android store'.

  • For a note, taken from readme.txt:

    Installation

Unzip the package you`ve downloaded and run Setup.exe which is included in the package, to
    install and activate the software.

You have to install it before the Giveaway offer for the software is over.

    Terms and conditions

Please note that the software you download and install during
the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:
    1) No free technical support
    2) No free upgrades to future versions
    3) Strictly non-commercial usage

  • "Fully compatible" with MS Office isn't really true, there are some features it doesn't support properly.

    • Yeah, pretty much all Office Suites except Microsoft Office fails at Powerpoints. Spreadsheets and Word work pretty well though.

  • Just a suggestion but can the OP or MOD put [PC] in the title?

  • Why would I use this? Is this better than open office or Microsoft office?

  • openoffice would suffice most people wouldn't it?

32 of the folks that brought the world OpenOffice left Oracle as Oracle wanted to make it Commercial and so the developers started LibreOffice. If you want a substitute Microsoft Office, use LibreOffice!

OpenOffice last update was January 2011, LibreOffice is constantly updated, yesterday in fact.

LibreOffice is free and intends to always be that way.

    • Meh, I downloaded this because of the Ribbon UI, if Libreoffice had it then I would go for it. Libreoffice also screws up my graphs so…

      • But only from version 3.4.2 did they say it's ready for enterprise / developer use. Plus its their aim to make it usuable on many platforms and for older machines. As such it lacks certain visuals.

Plus apparently Kingsoft Office is not free, it's trialware. LibreOffice is free.

      • +4

Wait, there are people who actually like the Ribbon?

        • +1

          3 people, in total.

        • annoying as hell!! constantly have to click up there to change it… waste of bloody time.

oh… and neg to this deal. OpenOffice is a much better 'free' alternative than Kingsoft's offering.

        • I like the Microsoft Office 2010 ribbon.
2007 Ribbon was a bit.. dodgey, 2010 ribbon is much better.
