So after having someone break in and take my beloved guitar, i am now paranoid and would like security. But i am a little overwhelmed by all the security cameras out there.
This came up on an ad link (thanks bing analytics) for Reolink.
Just curious if this is a good starting point.
there are others on the website but this one stuck out to me. (The RLK-800B4 one)
https://reolink.com/au/product/rlk8-800b4/
or this one (RLK-800D4)
https://reolink.com/au/product/rlk8-800d4/

8MB
PoE
NVR 24/7 recording

Not sure about night shots (I assume thats when they came) or lighting or any other details about security as this is a completely new topic so asking for a little guidance while still showing the sale.
So hopefully the sale price is good and hopfeully the recommendation is good also.

Reolink is pretty good quality. With 4k cameras u can't go wrong on quality. Reolink isn't top tier quality but for the money I think it's worth it and you would be hard pressed finding similar with nvr, and a pretty good app for live viewing.

    • Cheaper on eBay with current 15% off?

  • +1

Are you asking for advice or posting a bargain, because it sounds like you're unsure

  • +2

well i think i am posting a bargain (save 24%… gah the suggested title changed it on me), but i don't know if it is a worthwhile bargain or if it is still overpriced or is a dud

    • Still overpriced. The lowest of this bundle was around $540. This was available on catch website last month for around $590

  • Not sure as they are fairly vague on Amazon, but there is this one-

Also showing with coupon code that drops the price to $480.
    Model: RLK8-520D4-5MP

This is the one I've got my eye on RLK8-820D4-A - 4k with person/vehicle AI detection
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Detection-8-Channel-Pre-Installed-…

It is $769.99 after $130 coupon on Amazon, cheaper than the Reolink website 'sale'

    • Isn't the D4 setup in op $660? What's the difference

      • Doesn't have the new person/vehicle detection I think

        • Ah you're right

    • Thanks. That's the one I was searching for. They aren't clear for what they do and don't do. But the person and vehicle detection is what I need.

I've been researching Reolink products with interest.
For those interested, their models definition is:
[RLN|RLK][8|16] is the NVR package # of channels with suffix = included cameras.

      Cameras model definition:
[D = Dome, B= Bullet] 800's are basic NVR supported only cameras and lack ONVIF (and Assistant support by memory). I personally wouldn't get these as I want the features below.

      RLC-xxx, where:
      * 1st character is resolution in Megapixels: [4|5|8|12]
      * 2nd is type (1 = Bullet, 2 = Dome)
      * 3rd is zoom [0=none,1,2=varying]
      * Optional A = AI (Person/ Vehicle Detection)

So the D800 / B800 are basic 4K (8MP), with no ONVIF (open standard) & (limited?) RTSP support. By memory this excludes Assistants (Google & Alexa) too.

The RLC- models add ONVIF, Assistants support and optionally AI Detection.

Neither range include cloud storage (yet).

Whilst RLC's add Assistant support (and 2 way audio on some models), this only works in standalone, so the POE cameras must be powered and routed externally to the NVR (NVR can still be used). This seems to be a point of contention by unexpected users. The AI and mobile app notifications from what I've read work in either configuration.

The RLC-811A and RLC-822A add 3x & 5x motorised zoom respectively (not PTZ, but a set and use option) and in 1x have a wider field of view (FoV) then their counterparts for a modest increase in price.

For this reason I want the latter models, but availability (and lack of NVR package pricing) is an issue.

      • Great to know about the RLC-811A and RLC-822A thanks! Will keep these on the radar.

        • +1

RLC-822A is available now. Was out of stock.

      • This is great information re Reolink products. Thanks.

    • Marquise can you give us your thoughts? I have this on my radar and wanted to know more about your experience with it!

My understanding is that if you use the nvr you can't hook it up to i.e. Google nest?

What are some pros and cons re the product, use, install etc

      • I'm not yet an owner of any Reolink products (I've never even owned a standalone NVR), but I've done a bit of research on what I want and it's basically the one of the new 4K systems I've listed above with the person/vehicle AI detection.

From what I've read you might be right regarding using the NVR with Google Home.

FYI, $624.31 delivered from Australia at Reolink official AliExpress store. Also don't forget shopback 6%. Bought it last night.

Edit: Price before GST is $567.55.

      • Arrived this morning. Will test out tonight!

Edit: Looks like Shopback is only 0.5% which is for "Non-Affiliated Products" -$2.75 (the wording is "Up to 6.00% Cashback"). I think CashRewards would have given me 5%.

  • If they broke in and stole your guitar it's most likely someone you know.

Alas new home. was still transitioning between both homes . Didn't even have the mattress at the new home so probably more they were aware it was a new occupancy and I hadn't quite been sleeping there yet. Feels bloody horrible and that my own secure personal space has been completely violated

Yeah that's no good. Buy one of these kits then. Even the 5mp kits from reolink are still more then adequate as a deterrent. Just secure nvr as best you can or hide in a good spot in the house. Use app for live viewing when away from home or in home. Also get online storage for extra piece of mind recording.

I think most if not all cameras from reolink do audio and video plus they do movement detection which u can set up for notifications thru the app. Well worth it.
