This used to be a free printer and ipod touch deal normally…..

    • Pretty sure you can still get the free pinter after rebate. Just add to cart, claim back from Apple. Takes a few weeks but worked great last time.

And don't forget moneybackco.com A little more back than starthere.com.au

      • starthere.com.au has replaced moneybackco, they're the same company.

      • make sure you purchase the printer and the mac in the same transaction. and yeah… miss the iPod rebate. I think it was up to $170.

        • The printer rebate ended on the 16th…
I'd say that deal was better, at least for me, so I was quite lucky then.

        • @nucgaek they'll be back soon. Last time it overlapped with the uni special.

edit: I use Virgin Australia's shopandearn… probably should use moneybackco next time. before it was 4 velocity points for $1 (now 2 for $1). Used to clock up a free flight everytime I got a mac :P

      • Printer promo is over, unfortunately :(

  • +2

    wow :S how useful

I would rather a windows netbook for uni anyway

    • True, now we have wild range of ultrabooks to pick from

      • Samsung Series 9 drooooolll

        • Hell yes. Though there's some at CES I think in the realms of 12mm think… So good.

      • -1

ultrabooks aren't cheap. decent one would be $1500.

        • +1

Not decent one..top of the range one :p They start at 800 ish.. Misinformed :)

        • Massari have you got an example of a top of the range ultrabook for 800? Perhaps your standards differ?

        • ozAzn, 1.1k is sufficient if you know where to look.

funny, I would rather a macbook air! :P

although this deal is pretty weak. Last year was free ipod touch, this year it's $100? pathetic.

  • So Education price + $100 of free software. Sounds good to me.

    • +3

Not really. iTunes gift cards are usually 25% off, so this uni offer is actually worth $75. Better than nothing but still a far cry from the iPod rebate.

  • +1

Sweet finally!! I waited a whole year for this!!!! …… Oh.. its just an iTunes card X_x.

  • I think 10% off is better deal….

    • -1

Can you get the 10% deal off education prices, or just off retail? Education prices are already about 10-15% below RRP.

      • +2

Ummmm what? Education prices are not 10-15%.

        It's usually 4-5% off.

The best I've seen is for the 17" Macbook Pro and thats only ~7.5% ($2,679 vs $2,899)

edit: also last time, I was able to get 10% off plus free iPod Touch by going to the Applestore

    • @Garlic- Not really. an example- Mac Book Pro on apple site.
      Retails- $1399 - 10% = $1260
      Education price $1279 - $100 = 1179.

good, but not as good as it use to be

It's worth noting that Dick Smith have a promotion at the moment where you get 2 x $50 itunes gift cards with any mac purchase, so basically the same thing. Good for those that aren't going to uni, and you might even be able to talk them into giving you their usual 10% off.
Dick smith also do education pricing as far as I know.

    • Dick Smith wont do any discount on the Apple computer while the 2 x $50 iTunes cards are on the receipt. Without those cards on the receipt, or with extra items on the receipt like Applecare, they will do some good deals on those.

Trying to get a good deal for a mac seems a little ironic really, as even after the small educational discount you're still paying twice as much just for the brand. Each to their own I suppose…

    • -1

      haha yep :D

    • +1

The brand, the much better than normal resale, OS X which some people consider superior to Windows, a high quality wireless keyboard and mouse, effortless setup, currently very low levels of viruses and malware and much lower levels of support for those of us whose relatives might not be as technically literate.

      So, more than the brand.

  • nice, that's a hint on when the new ivy bridge macs are coming, start to mid April when the deal ends.

    • Not a hint. That's just when it ends. No tea leaves required to know that a back to school promotion will end at some stage.

Last year's back to school promotion included a period when the new MacBook Pros came out.

      • Yeah, definitely don't take it as a hint. I did and missed out by about a month on getting the new Macbook Pro! It was and still is good enough for me so I'm not too fussed about it though.
